Have been using my level 40 priest as my bank alt until the other day when I got a wild hair up my butt to try something different. Obviously after 14 months of banking I am a little rusty with the priestly stuffs, so what I was wondering is how long will I be able to use a disc spec to heal instances? For instance, I know that you can tank as warrior with any spec up until the BC instances.

Forever. Is this a trick question? Smiley: laugh

I'm guessing either 1.) that's a typo and you meant to say shadow, in which case the answer is probably the whole time you're leveling but if you find you're having mana issues you should carry a few pieces of spirit gear to swap in, or 2.) it's been longer since you've played your priest than you realize and you're thinking of BC where Holy was the only healing spec.

If Holy was the only healing spec back then, what the heck was Disc used for?

In TBC, for PvP. In vanilla, it wasn't used. Unless you wanted one priest in a 40-man who had Divine Spirit.

You know how there was once a time when all mages were fire or frost and arcane was just the utility tree where you put the other 11 points or so? It was that. Also what Moz said. There was a sort of Holy/Disc hybrid build that was popular (I loved it) but for raiding you only needed one.

I don't even remember what the 41 point talent was. Pain Suppression? Anyone remember?

It was only for Lich King that they came up with a cohesive theme for Disc that made it a healing spec yet very different from Holy. I think they did a fantastic job of it too. Personally I've been happy with the state of the priest class this whole expansion. I don't know a lot of people who play other classes who say the same.

41-pointer? That was Pain Suppression, in TBC, I think. In Vanilla, the 31-pointer was Divine Spirit for a bit () and later turned into... Pain Suppression actually, I think. It's just that back then the entire tree was useless as all it did was give you a ******** of mana, and PS wasn't worth throwing away all those points.

I cringe at saying this, but it's more the fact that until the other day I had never healed more than myself. I was a straight shadow spec until recently. I had tried healing on my pally when it was a baby, but I was SO clueless (as opposed to my being clueless with healing on a priest) at it that I decided then and there that it was waaaay to complicated for muh feeble mind. (can you say HEALBOT ftw?)

Hey, there's nothing wrong with using add ons to help your healing. Smiley: tongue It does help if you grasp the concepts of healing prior to using the add ons, but that's what the low level dungeons are for; learning.

No need to cringe. Healing isn't all that complicated and it can be a ton of fun. I think it can be intimidating learning to tank or heal though because there's more pressure and you're so exposed while learning. It's not like DPS or a yoga class where you can slip in, stand in the back, and hope nobody will notice if you ***** up.

I agree with you that a healing add-on is a really useful thing. We usually recommend people try on several of the more common ones (Healbot, VuhDo, Grid + Clique) to see which fits best. I truly believe that setting up a good efficient UI is a hefty chunk of the healing battle. The rest is knowing what spell to use for what job, and how to watch health bars and get out of the fire at the same time.

Enjoy your priest and ask questions here. We've got a lot of great healers with a lot of valuable experience. I am not one of them, but I will talk about cookies, like, any time. I made some macaroons from a new recipe last weekend and didn't care for it. Too sweet and sticky.

At least, not until you try to do the lotus position and scream in agony when you pull something too far.

I'm a fan of snickerdoodles myself, but I've been known to eat a macaroon or two in my time. Particularly the ones that are half-dipped in dark chocolate.

Or you break your neck trying to do a head stand or shoulder stand before you're ready. They make you sign a waiver to attend a yoga class for a reason. Smiley: wink2

What she said.

I started healing after years of tanking and rarely DPS overall as a WoW player, that being said as you heal/tank you will realize most DPS are retarded.

Carry on.

Grid or GTFO, lulz

Well they're gone now, obviously. It's Wednesday. And these people are like hyenas. I was thinking of making some pecan meringues today or tomorrow though. The Others don't really like them they way they like, say, chocolate chip, so I get to eat most of them. Oh but wait! I have oatmeal in the pantry. Mmmm, oatmeal toffee chip.

Important Update: I made blueberry pie instead. Pie trumps all.

About the 31/41 Disc point talents, the 31 point talent in vanilla was Power Infusion, actually. At least it existed back then and stuff.
The 41 point talent in TBC was definitely Pain Suppression, I remember as it was insane back then. 95% damage reduction was sexy in PvP.
