New Shadow Priest always OOMFollow

I recently started playing my priest, and decided to go shadow to level. He is currently level 25. I feel like I'm always OOM when I'm out leveling. I've leveled a warlock who was never out of mana, and my mage is a few levels higher than my priest and can go twice as long before I have to use evocation, and when I do need to drink, I have the drinks I made for free. My priest goes about 2-3 fights before I have to stop and drink. The trip from 22 to 24 took almost twice as long on my priest as my mage and cost me a small fortune in drinks. Is this normal for this level? If so, where do I start to notice a difference where I will be able to kill almost non-stop?

Since you're leveling as shadow I'm assuming that you have fully filled out spirit tap.

If not that's absolutely the first thing to do and then be sure you're working on mobs that trigger it when they die.

Get a good wand and use it to finish off enemy mobs to save mana.

Things will get better at 40 when you get shadow form. In the meanwhile, consider looking into what's generally known as smite spec for leveling. It made my trip to 50 much easier. Basically it works like this:

3 points in spirit tap.
Down the holy tree to get searing light.
Glyph with the Glyph of Smite and Glyph of Holy Nova.
Then down the Disc tree picking up talents that improve DPS.

Once you get to 40+ you can respec back to full shadow.

It's a fun spec for leveling and very efficient in terms of mana usage.

My rotation for leveling was something like Holy Fire -> SW:P -> Smite -> Smite -> Wand until ready to come out of the oven.

No, Cataclysm won't effing ruin your - wait, what?

Oh, like that.

Well, odds are you're doing something wrong if you're drinking every 2-3 mobs. Are you fighting mobs above your level? For casters this can make quite the difference.

yes max out spirit tap. Saves you loads of downtime. Next once your are able to do low level instance, grab a good wand.
Bubble yourself, pain, blast(Think you should have by now- not sure been a long time since i played shadow). Wand, wand, wand till the mob is dead. if bubble goes off, bubble yourself again.

Once you get shadow form, it would be a breeze.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Heirloom trinket(s) helps a lot. It's like extra spirit tap(s). Get it if you have access to heirlooms.
