Affliction dps helpFollow

My wife plays an affliction warlock, and is having serious dps issues. Mainly a lack of dps. Im not sure if its due to her spec being for pvp or if she just cant pve. Looking at her armory, she logged out in her pvp gear. Hopefully by the time anyone reads this she will be back in her pve gear.

Back to the dps problem. She has roughly a 2.8k wow-heroes gearscore in her pve gear. We dont raid much, so most of her gear is from the new instances or emblem gear. We did a ToC10 the other day and downed 2 bosses before we were hit with a lag spike that wiped the raid and everyone left. For those 2 boss fights she pulled out about 3.4k dps. Normally I would think that it was decent dps, but I was on my ele shaman with a little more than half her gearscore and I pulled almost 4k dps. She wasnt too happy that I smoked her in dps. I know she follows the affliction rotation/priority. So my question is, is it her spec thats making her dps so low? Again I hope you will be able to see her pve gear when you read this. The only thing I can see thats missing from her spec would be eradication, which I will inform her about when I get home.

I havent played an affliction warlock since TBC and in the end game I went SL/SL for arenas. I just started lvling my lock again as a hybrid Felguard/Siphon Life spec for grinding. I plan on going full aflliction when I eventually hit 80. So my question about her dps is also pulling double duty so I dont ***** up when I get geared at 80.

Thanks for you comments.

Well, checking her armory right now she is still in PvP gear. However, looking at her spec there is a lot of improvement that can be had in her talent build to increase her PvE dps. Essentially she has way too many points in Demonology and lacks the Destruction talents, as well as having PvP talents in Affliction while missing some key PvE ones.

56/0/15 - A basic affliction build Her pet is the Felhunter, and she will use Dark Pact instead of Life Tap for mana.

From there she can play with some points depending on her gear. If she has no problem with hit rating then she can move points out of Suppression, for instance.

She needs to change a couple of major glyphs too. Replace Glyph of Howl of Terror with Glyph of Life Tap. Replace Glyph of Unstable Affliction with Glyph of Haunt.

This should help to significantly increase her dps, given that she has the spell rotation/priority down for affliction.

Quick question - if she uses dark pact to get mana she still uses a low level rank of life tap to make use of the life tap glyph?

I've recently decided to give affliction another go and I vaguely recall reading something about downranking, but I might have the wrong end of the stick *looks at hand with stick*.

Blizzard changed the Glyph of Life Tap in a previous patch so it now procs off either Life Tap or Dark Pact. Therefore, if you utilize Dark Pact to regain mana it will still trigger the buff.

It is advisable to use the Rank 1 Life Tap/Dark Pact just before an encounter begins, so that you get the buff but don't start off the fight with a major loss of health and annoy or distract your healers. During the fight, however, you should use your highest rank of the spell when necessary.

Well, at level 70 you should have Haunt and hopefully Improved Shadow Bolt as well, so your initial rotation should look like:

Shadowbolt -> Haunt -> Corr -> UA -> CoA (or CoE or CoD)

And then your prioritization of spells is:

Haunt > Corr > UA > CoA/CoE/CoD > Shadowbolt spam
