Something I Saw in the ArenaFollow

Thanks to the wonderful posts here on this board my 3s team is steadily getting better. With our win column growing faster than our loss column this we decided to make a 5s team. What started as HoTs DoTs and stunlocks, has grown to include 2 warriors, 1 arms and the other cant decide between arms and fury(although we keep telling him to stay arms). Our first week went pretty well, we won 7 and lost 13. Most of our losses came from the warriors being undergeared and uncoordinated. Its amazing how fast a 35k hp warrior can die in an arena when they have less than 400 resil. This week we were all on and decided to work on the 5s team. Looking back on that fateful night I realize we made a bad decision.

We all changed to our preferred spec, strapped on our pvp gear, and said "hello Mr. Goblin, send us to the arena". 15 minutes later we are on an elevator tossing out buffs and shouts, summoning pets and making cookies. Suddenly the elevator starts to rise. Our hearts racing, our palms sweating. Ours heads finally break the surface of the arena floor. We gaze across the small gap between the elevators, but there are no eyes staring back at us. One of the warriors calls out "Hah, must be gnomes and dorfs. This should be fun". The elevator continues to slowly rise. Still nothing to see. The warlock shouts "watch your backs and ready your trinkets, we have rogues or cats". The elevator lurches to a halt, our muscles tense. Its dead silent, a strange feeling begins to pull at my guts. Out of nowhere wave after wave after wave throws us back farther and farther. The waves finally subside as our backs hit the arena wall. As my roots hit the ground I instictively began healing my injured comrades. My friends one by one dying faster than I could instant cast. I stepped forward to get a better view of the hell that had been unleashed upon my group. To my suprise it isnt the untold legions of the underworld laying waste to us all, no, instead I saw a forest. 15 trees pummeling the corpses of my team into the dirt. Then they turned to face me. The bark on the lower half of my trunk suddenly became warm and wet, I cursed the dog as the first of many branches battered me into thousands of splinters.

We were devoured faster than a cake in front of a fat kid. We laughed off the loss and queued again. 20 minutes pass and we enter the same arena again. Elevator comes up and boom(or should I say Boomkins) same group, and the same 5 second slaughter. A little annoyed we queue again. This time we get a group of plate wearers. After about 4 minutes the last of us dies and we get to see that their matchmaking rating is just shy of doubling our score. We compliment each other for putting up a good fight against a team we shouldnt have had a chance against. We queue again hoping for a better matched team. 5 minutes later we are back on that evil elavator. We joked about getting the boomkin death squad again. Our laughter was cut short. A few seconds later we were back in Dalaran and we called it a night.

Now I know the teams and arenas are random, but to get the same team in the same arena 3 out of 4 times is more than ridiculous. Was it a just slow night for arenas? Maybe. Has anyone else faced a team like this? If so, did you win? Is there even a way to win? Im hoping we face this team again in a few weeks to see if we can last at least 30 seconds, maybe even kill one of them.

P.S. Just a last bit of info. Im pretty sure the boomkin team wasnt a botter. Each boomkin moved seperatly and independantly.

Edit: fixed fat finger typos

Depending on when you queue and your rank, fight the same team a few times is normal/expected.

Jup, there's not that many 5's teams.
Which means you can get the same team many times, sucks if they stomp you, great if you faceroll them and it gives you a good opportunity to talk over what happened, discuss how to deal with it and have a reasonable chance of trying out your new strategy.

Vs the 5 boomkins, having your warriors jump to the other platform as soon as possible, use demo shout or something and lolstorm when they're still together would work I think.
They might have a lot of damage with 5 boomkins blowing cooldowns, but they have no healing and very little survivability.
And people go down fast when they're being focused, really fast.

Key will be to dps the same boomkin and blow your cooldowns early, it won't be an endurance fight anyway so there's no reason not to throw everything you have at them.

A big source of a boomkins burst damage is from starfall. 5 boomkins starfalling is just plain devastating, so here some quick facts about starfall to help you out:

Glyphed, it can be done once per minute and lasts 10 seconds.
Starfall does not damage a player whom is out of LoS of the boomkin.
Starfall does not do any damage if the boomkin is not in control of his character(fears/stuns).
After being cast, SF will do damage even if the boomkin is silenced in the duration(10sec).

The basic strategy is to do one of 2 things. If you're close to an object that can give LoS, get behind it for the 10 seconds. Or, alternatively, you can attempt to CC the boomkin until the 10 secs expires. Remember that most boomkins will save trinkets for CC while starfalling. If you stun or fear them, they'll often pop right out of it and SF will continue, so have a backup ready just in case. Even if you can keep the boomkin CC'd for 6/10 secs, it's a major reduction in amount of damage taken.

One last thing to consider is to keep your team in mind. If you're close to an object and can LoS it easily, but you're other members are out in the open, it is often a better choice to attempt CC rather than hide. Chances are that if they popped SF in the first place, they're planning on bursting something down. In those times you want to attempt to control them as much as possible. Due to abilities like nature's grace, boomkins will get almost guaranteed reduced casting time while SF is hitting enemies. Paired with any buffs they may have popped, SF and wrath/starfire spam can be very destructive.
