PVP question!Follow

#1 Jul 09 2010 at 11:44 AM Rating: Decent
Hello! I have another questions, really simple I guess... what is the best spec for a shaman in PVP? And why, also!? :D Is Elemental or Restauration better than Enhancement? I heard many things about all the shaman PVP stuff and I don't know what to think!! Also, I saw some Resto PVPers doing with no +MP5 on their gear, saying it was useless for PVP and using more of the "Elemental" gear... what about that? Can you please help my!? :D Thanks in advance!

Um, PvP is a wide open genre there, all kinds of things you can do, what exactly did you have in mind? Plus best is subjective, every class/spec has strengths and weaknesses. I'm guessing that's why you didn't get a response.

I have PVP'd as a Elemental Shaman mostly, with a off-spec of Resto, for when I get bored or frustrated.

Ele offers pretty decent burst damage, however, as with any caster, I feel vulnerable to Rogues/Warriors/Feral Druids. Totems can help with melee classes closing on you, Earthbind can often be a life saver, giving you a few seconds to get some distance, and heal.

I've seen many Shaman go with Enhance for PvP. I have never tried it, personally. I do understand that it, too, offers some decent burst.

Probably the most used spells in PvP, for me, are Purge and Wind Shear. Nothing like purging a pallies buffs, or Mages, or Priest bubbles. Wind Shear is also a very decent spell if timed correctly, it interrupts a caster, closing that school for a few seconds, which, in PvP, is an eternity.

Beyond that, it's a matter of personal preference. I like Elemental because I can keep some distance, and Chain Lightning can be devastating if used properly. I am also most familiar with Elemental, so it comes naturally.

It does depend on what type of PVP you're intending on doing:

World PVP
BG
Arena

Based on level 80 spells and talents, Ive found the following:

World PVP

It will depend a lot on who initiates the PVP.

If you start it then Elemental is good; Flame Shock followed by Lava Burst is a straight up 10k+ of damage with a DoT on the target.

If you're the one being attacked then enhance is better since your attacks don't involve standing still while your opponent beats on you.

Resto in world PVP is mainly a matter of dropping earthbind totem and trying to outrun your opponent.

BG

All three specs are good here, and this is one of those places where being resto can make a big difference to a fight.

In a big BG like AV or WG where the enemny is close together using Chain Lightning can do some high damage.

Arena

Both elemental and enhance have good burst damage and as such can do well in Arena, although it does depend on who you're fighting and what other classes you have on your team.

From personal experience as Resto in 3v3, there are a couple of outcomes; either I get silenced, stunned, or other cc before I have a chance to get any healing off and watch the rest of the match from the safety of the arena floor (like many other healers I'm the first target), or I survive long enough to run around like a headless chicken using Riptide on whoever in my team is in range while clearing off the poisons that the Rogue following me keeps applying. It would have been easier if I hadn't forgotten which key Cleansing Totem was bound to.
