I was never going to use my 3-4 patches old PvP spec, so I went ahead and built this hybrid to try out. I wanted Bone Shield, Permaghoul, and AMZ, but didn't want to go Unholy. I wanted to be unique.

As I predicted, tested this out in H OK, it lacks AoE threat. Unholy gets disease damage, Frost gets HB, Blood gets bonus Blood Boil damage...but this...this has nothing.

It's a much better single-target threat spec. Basic single-target goes like this:

IT - PS - BS - BS - Oblit.
IT - IT - IT - IT > This leaves you with 2 UH runes on this second rotation. This actually seems useful, since AMZ and Bone Shield need UH runes, a good place to use those. Of course Blood Tap is a godsend for a clutch AMZ/BS too.

After that:

Gets kinda fuzzy. Still need to work this out.

Something that is fun is the Killing Machine procs. With Dirge and CotG, you will have some extra RP. Mix some DC's into your rotation when permissible to get Unholy Blight up, and also giving you another GCD to proc KM for IT spam.

KM is also very useful because it is a 30 second buff. If you have it left over, chances are you can begin the next pull with a critical IT.

Thoughts?

AoE sucks as this spec. DnD - IT - PS - Pest - ??? (Blood Boil I suppose...)

I shudder to think you actually took that into an instance. You aren't being unique, you are being retarded. Your only job in an instance is to put out threat, and you've seriously gimped that. You miss out on the best talents in Unholy for MEDIOCRE talents in Frost.

Plus, you say you don't want to be an Unholy DK, but you spend the most points in that tree. And you grab a ghoul, the iconic talent in the Unholy tree (that tanks totally don't need).

You've lost the best AoE talents, dropping your DnD/BB damage by 23%, and your disease damage by 53% (as well as making it so they can't AoE crit).

And you don't even have comparable ST threat.

Plus, you've chosen to prioritize an ability that will miss 12% of the time with your stats, yet you didn't bother to grab the +hit talents.

Here's the blunt of it--you would have better threat in both ST and AoE to go 71 points Unholy than this spec (and 5/5/61 would have just slightly worse survivability. And you'd also put out DpS, not just TpS, by using strikes as your primary threat generation over IT.

[EDIT]

Okay, so this came off way harsher than I meant it to.

But doing this is like speccing a Mage Arcane and then doing nothing but spamming Frostbolt. Sure, the tree offers SOME buffs to the spell, but it's just a dumb thing to do.

The point of the spec isn't to be a new cookie cutter. The point of the spec isn't to be brutally efficient. It just grabs a combination of talents/abilities that I thought would be fun when mixed together.

It didn't turn out awful, but I only tested it in a few heroics. If you care to notice, my other spec is a fairly efficient, high threat Blood build.

Sue me for being a little creative with my spec whilst doing content that everyone is massively overgeared for. And even if I was to use this in something harder, ToC or ICC, it's not like it would be the end of the world. I'd only use it in a guild run, and would probably give everyone a heads up that it's a sucky spec.

Edit - And plus, thread title? Mess around spec?

The real question is why the hell you wanted advice or a critique on a spec you've designed to be utterly inefficient.

[EDIT]

I has grammar skillz.

Really what kind of responses where you expecting?

People here want to be good at what they do. So they go for the best talents for their role. That's what cookie cutter builds are. They are the best talents for the role you want to fulfill.

You don't want to use the cookie cutter specs? Ok, that's fine. What is your reasong for not wanting to use the cookie cutter specs? Is it because your raid group is lacking something so you opted to take some talents over others to make up for what your raid is lacking? Nope that's not it. Are you trying to develope a spec to attempt and solo specific content? Nope that's not it.

Your reason for your spec is a simple and dumb:

Hate to break it to you, but you're not unique. You are one among a million other death knights. Even with that mess around spec, you're still not unique. You've just lumped yourself in with a whole slew of bad players.

You're just like the emo kid who wears black baggy jeans, long black t-shirt. Dyes his hair jet black and spikes it in crazy directions. Wears the black stockings on his hands and has the long metal chain attached to his wallet. He dresses like this, not really because he is into the culture, but because he wants to be unique, and sit around with all his unique friends that dress and act exactly like him.

That **** I dropped in the toilet at lunch was pretty unique. It had a unique shape, a unique density, and a unique color, but despite how unique it was, it was still just another piece of ****.

Tanks and healers aren't allowed to use mess around specs. DPS can get away with it on content that is a joke or they over gear.

Sorry man.

While I don't mind people trying weird stuff, my question really is: why? I don't know about you, but the reason people go all the way up one tree is because it works so well. Why would you go all the way up the unholy tree and then stop just before Scourge Strike so you end up having to use some kind of gimped frost rotation? The thing is, even with regards to everything you've said, that just doesn't play well? I'd find it annoying rather than fun to try.

It would be more interesting to see how well you could do with NO talents, rather than gimped ones.

Kinda like trying to do content in blue gear, but way harder.
