Right now I'm dual specced enhance and resto. I really like healing as a shaman, possibly even moreso than my priest. I'll have to try it at 80 to find out. Right now, I'm level 77. My enhance dps in instances sucks, I can barely hit 1k. I come to you, fellow posters, humbly requesting your assistance. I really like the class, but I hate not feeling like I'm contributing as a DPS'er.

Thank you very much for your help. Also, and tips on proper rotation would be awesome!

Spec looks good, and glyphs.

In your Resto gear, so I can't tell you if you have bad hit rating or not. It's probably your rotation. It's more of a priority system.

This can tell you some useful information, though if I remember it right, it's something like this -

Priority:
1. Feral Spirits
2. MW x5 w/ LB
3. Stormstrike
4. Earth Shock
5. Fire Nova
6. Lava Lash
7. Lightning Shield

I think the rotation has changed just a bit since ICC. LS is now higher, shamanistic rage is in there for the 10-piece, and Lava Lash is higher than fire nova. This is especially true if you have the item in your ranged slot that procs off of LL.

I thought Shaman used FS now, too.

This is the list from the post Jeff linked:

1. LB at 5xMW
2. LS at 0 orbs
3. Feral Spirit if off CD (though subject to change depending on BL/Heroism)
4. Shamanistic Rage if off CD (it says use immediately for 2pc T10, but I don't know if that suggests it should be first or just explains why it is this high in the list)
5. Stormstrike if no remaining charges.
6. Fire Elemental if off CD.
7. Refresh Magma Totem if expired
8. Flame Shock if the DoT isn't up.
9. Earth Shock if off CD
10. Stormstrike even if you have remaining charges
11. Lava Lash
12. Fire Nova (even on ST).
13. Refresh Magma Totem if there are less than 2 seconds left.
14. Refresh Lightning Shield if 2 or less orbs remain.
15. Refesh Totems as you see fit.

So, yeah...

Also, a quick note on that list:

I find it helpful to remove Spirit Wolves and Fire Elemental off the list altogether. If you don't have the 2xT10, also take Shamanistic rage out. Not only are these longer-CD abilities that just give you more to remember, they're also situational. Usually you want to use wolves and elemental right before BL/Hero. Remember to look at the big picture. Using wolves once right before Heroism so they get the buff is better than not(obviously!), but worse than being able to use it 2 separate times without the buff. So even though those particular abilities are higher on priority, it's sometimes beneficial to wait to use them.

Plan your CDs accordingly, and good luck with the other 12 things you still need to remember. :P

Nicely put, afew of them are close. But none are right.

It's interesting that you say that none of the info given is right. I think almost all of the info given is spot on, and most pulled right from Elitest Jerks, the foremost authority on anything to do with maximizing dps and perfecting playing a class.

gem haste period

Being the resident professional shaman advice-giver that you are, I'm sure you're well aware that gemming haste is actually dependent on what gear you have, and that AP is sometimes actually a more valued stat.

Tried ShockandAwe, didn't like it. It was too big, wasn't sure if I could scale it down. If I can, then I might use it. Otherwise, it just takes up too much room on my screen that could be used for seeing stuff. I need to upgrade a lot of my enhance gear (I am currently logged out in enhance spec), that would probably help a lot. I haven't played as enhance in a week or so because I've been playing as resto, leveling via dungeons. Almost 80!

Hey, nice thread with some good replies, I just felt the need to stick my 2 cents in and make my first post on these forums.

People are right about the general priorities of playing an enh shaman, and it is a matter of priorities, rather than a fixed cast sequence as many other classes have. However I'd like to amend some of the previous statements and possibly provide some clarification on when to cast what.

When / where to put your totems: As a melee dps class, you should be pretty close in behind the tank as he starts the pull, try to follow him as closely as you can. Most competent tanks will group up the mobs for more convenient AoE, try to drop your totems so your magma totem is within 8 yards (it's range)of the tank, remember, your fire totem is the front left totem to be put out, so often it pays to be to the right of the tank as you go in. If you get the totem placing about right, it should give you enough time to have your GCD refresh by the time you get within melee range. Dependant on the tank.

Cast rotation: Starting from Fresh - I'll assume you have LS buffed at full and no maelstrom procs up. Potentially, you have the ability to pull aggro so do the tank a favour, have him as focus target and try to attack his target.
The basic cast priority is:

1: Stormstrike
2: Earth Shock
3: Lava Lash
4: Fire Nova

However, this is assuming you don't have any Maelstrom weapon procs up. With a full 5/5 of procs up, Maelstrom procced spells become your number one priority to cast. For groups of mobs, Chain lightning if it's off of CD, or lightning bolt for single targets or if CL is on CD. Also, as a precaution against inattentive / undergeared healers, I have a self cast / focus target cast macro to cast Chain Heal close to hand.
With large groups of low health mobs, Fire Nova takes a greater priority, casting it twice in the duration of a single Magma Totem being the aim. My secondary aim to be to try and build enough Maelstrom procs to get off a Chain Lightning before the mobs are all dead.

Generally, I'll find that before Stormstrike is off of CD, I'll have a couple of seconds with ES and LL also on CD to either refresh LS or Magma Totem.

Also, I try not to burn SS if the mob is about to die and there are other mobs in the pull with relatively high health, better to use LL even if it takes a sec to become available, and have the SS buff up on another mob that's going to take sustained damage from you.

Euhm, as another poster noted, Wolves, BL and Shamanistic Rage are all pretty highly situational, try not to burn them on mobs that won't see their full effect, or if the CD is going to be unavailable for a boss fight. The exception being Shamanistic Rage if you get aggro, coz your DPS really suffers when you're dead, and unless you have the T10 2 piece bonus SR isn't going to affect your damage - assuming you're not oom, in which case, pop it and focus on the mob with the biggest HP pool to try and get it's full effect, you may not get this - it really depends on the dps in the instance.

As I understand it, Windfury Weapon has a hidden CD of 3 secs between procs, with procs from EITHER hand triggering the CD for BOTH hands. As such I only keep WF buffed on MH and have Flametongue buffed on OH.

I have noticed that my DPS in heroics does vary quite a lot, mostly depending on how much HP the mobs have, but also with how lucky I'm getting with Maelstrom proccing. At the moment I have 2 part bonus T9 and the same T10, and my DPS is varying from about 2.5k - 7k, depending on the heroic. In the heroics where mobs die before I'm through a DPS cycle, my DPS is atrocious.

Finally - remember shaman are not a pure DPS class! You're a hybrid and (imo) the best hybrid class in the game! Use it to your full advantage, if the healer or tank is weak, you can assist them both with judicious choice of totems and by using your Maelstrom procs to provide additional healing if needed.
Stay awake and aware, watch the whole fight not just your corner of it and keep half and eye on health bars, then even if you are not top of the damage tables, you will be an invaluable part of any party.

Dunno if you still need help or have mastered the priority yet or w/e but here you go.

/castsequence reset=combat stormstrike, earth shock, lava lash, lightning shield, earth shock, lava lash

My personal macro it's far from the best dps, and i wouldn't use it in raids. But if your still learning stuff and running heroics i recommend it. The only things you really keep track of are maelstrom procks, wolves, ellementals, etc etc.

Again though if your raiding and trying to inch out every bit of damage i wouldn't use this but i manage a respectable 4kdps, with only my own buffs minus blood lust and other cds with it and i am far from the best geared player.

It's a pain to get used to.
It's bulky but you really only need one of the windows and you can modify it to show just the one.
Get Shockandawe and use it.

I've played Ret, Furry, Shadow, Afflic, and Marksmanship. Enhance is by far the most involved, intence and awesome dps spec I've tried yet. The spell rotation is never the same and not only CD dependent but changes based on the fights too. Then there's purge, wind shock, and hero to pile ontop of the list of things to look for. If you want to go simple just make sure that the window with the "next spell to cast" is on your screen from ShockandAwe. That alone will boost your dps HUGE!

You need to switch your Nighttime to your main hand as it does more dps and will hit for more not only because it's in your main, but w/ windfury proc. So replacing your Crimson Steel is prime. I would suggest running for another Nighttime. It's a high drop rate, and you have the chance of dropping a Seven-Fingered Claws while your at it. You have 2 hit gems that you can sub out. I suggest anything with Attack Power. Some say haste. I honestly haven't done the research yet so what-ev. EJ's is a great place and I'll be doing some reading.

Overall, not bad. There was one thing I read above that I really liked though....
