Getting Ripped Off a Trend?Follow

Hey!

Be warned, this is half rant!

It happened again...twice. Last night, while tanking Reg HoR the shield finally dropped after 19 runs through. I hit the need button, took a deep breath and said a very relieved "Finally!" just in time to see the Paladin healer, need it, win the roll, and leave the party in about 1 second flat. To say the least, I was a little deflated emotionally, but the rise in my blood pressure made up for it.

Later that night, I was tanking Reg FoS in an attempt to get the boots therein. Finally, again, they dropped, and a DK once again pulled the rug out from under me. The shield block for him must have been too good to pass up. I did write a ticket to Blizzard, but oddly, they were unimpressed.

Tell me....does anyone else find this sort of thing occurring? Is there some way (Any way!) we can get the tanking eq we run and run and run for without someone else Ninjaing the stuff before our very eyes? Report the name of the miscreant to Blizzard via a ticket? Whip together a voodoo doll and find a lighter? Anything at all?

How do we tanks go about getting a fair shake? Or if we can't beat the Ninja's, do we actually have to join them to get equipment? Thanks for any information and thanks for letting me rant.

While I cant say much for the boots, because I've had the 226 crafted ones since hitting 80, I've had shields ninja looted from me many a time. First it was the Royal Crest of Lordaeron, lost that a good few times. Once I started hitting up Ulduar, I lost the shield that Auriaya drops to our other tank, and it never dropped again. ToC rolls out, and I never even see the Sheild from Anub 10 man. When frozen halls came out i was hoping for the shield from reg HoR, but never won it when it dropped (for some reason, shamans wanted that shield more than me). Then i started tanking ICC, and got the Neverending Winter on my third attempt, after our other tank got it the week before.

In short, I've had terrible luck with shields. If you've got the Heroic CoS shield, stick with it untill you get something better. It's not too shabby a shield considering the small amount of effort it takes to get it.

Edited for punctuation.

The only thing you can do is be the group leader and kick the other plate wearers if you don't know them.

Sorry to hear that. The shield is a pain to get as my warrior tank buddy can attest. Farming the Scorpion I've seen some really funny ninjas...

Elemental and Enhance Shaman (lol)

Ret Pallies (lolwhut?)

A mage (!)

and assorted tanks.

Welcome to the new LFG system. There are problems with the way loot is handled, but honestly I haven't seen a better way to do it yet that doesn't have more issues than the need/greed group loot thing we have now. Nobody is going to stay in a master loot group when nobody knows each other. So, we're kinda stuck.

At least, until someone builds a better mousetrap.

Get a guild run together and ask for the shield?

When I was gearing up my druid when I was a newly dinged 80, I can't tell you how many times the tank or sometimes one of the DPS bailed after the first part because the shield didn't drop. You not gettintg the shield is probably just as frustrating to you as the tank bailing on a good run is for everyone else...to some degree anyway.

Sorry about your bad luck, best of luck in the future.

Sadly enough, it happens.

Try either:

1. be the Loot Master and when inviting people to the group have them agree that you can assign it to yourself (or get another team member) while passing on other drops (to be fair)
2. get a Loot Master you trust, then see 1.

Blizzard won't help you out and I think they shouldn't either.

Ran into something similar last night. I've recently been dusting off my warrior (prot/fury) and tanking again to get him some gear. He's my 1st 80 but my most poorly geared of the 5.

Tanked heroic Pit. Surprised myself a bit at how smoothly it went. Tyrannical Beheader drops off the last boss. Nobody else in the group can use it (theoretically) so I say I'm needing for offspec. (The ret pally was all 251+ gear, resto sham, lock, hunter.)

The hunter needed on it and won.

The pally went ape-s on the guy about how he was clueless and a STR axe was worthless for him which I found massively amusing and it somewhat relieved my massive irritation.

I lost Seethe on my healadin (not best but better than what I have) to a rogue last week too ><

I just hope they've said something in /p so I can ignore them.

Honestly, I would rather Blizz break up gear according to spec and role.

So, rolling would look like this:

Spec-based Need
Need
Greed/DE

The spec-based Need is just a normal Need selection that gains a higher priority if you have a spec enabled that can use the item AND queued for that role.

So Elemental Shaman can't win a need roll for Enh gear if there is a Hunter or Enh Shaman in the group competing. But they are free to need if they wish, and can certainly win it if no Hunters/Enh people are rolling. But they won't have any superiority in their roll over the Shaman healer.

This wouldn't work until Cata though, because DKs share specs. And it would be a lot of coding to add them in now. Feral Druids would need to be cleared to roll on Tank trinkets/rings/necklaces (when queued as a tank), but DpS leather always.

It's the best thing I've thought of. No one could ninja the gear you needed unless they could also use it (even if a downgrade) and were queued as the same roll.

Would be more programming, yes. But all they'd have to do after setting up the system is add Caster, Tank and Melee tags to all blue+ gear drops. That's not too much, imo.

Is it perfect? Definitely not. And trying to roll on off-spec gear will always be subject to ninjas. But at least you don't have to worry about ninjas for the gear designed for the spec/role you performed.

TL;DR? Basically I'm suggesting that, in addition to the armor-type restriction, they give a need-priority to people who are specced to perform the role the item is suited for AND performed that role according to the queue.

It could work now for DK's, they just can't roll spec need on tanking gear unless they are in the tanking role.

I think that DE should be lower, and ya know what, honesty and integrity is what should matter, I was taught that you greed everything, so I have a hard time doing otherwise.

I mean if your are just going to disenchant something and some one wants it "greed" then they should have it. My understanding is a greed roll should be agreed on before you start and if that doesnt happen boot em.

Why? Usually they are hitting "Greed" because they want to sell it for the gold rather than have the enchanting mats.

Or because it's perfectly itemized for them but they aren't allowed to "Need" due to armor class restriction. This won't be an issue in Cata, of course, due to the size of the sledgehammer they used to enforce armor "preference".
