The Priest Accomplishment ThreadFollow

I took down my rival.

By rival, I mean "One of the only Priests I've seen around town with gear better than my own who probably had no idea I existed."

Basically, Shadow Priests are few and far between on my server, so when I happen to end up in a group with one, I like to make it into a competition between us.

And when the #1 guild Horde-side's Shadow Priest fell into our ToGC 10 run, I was excited. I pulled up simcraft and ran a few simulations. Theoretically, he should do more dps than me. Not a huge margin, but more.

I did more than him.

It wasn't a fluke, either. Every fight ended with me on top. Sometimes it was close, by only about 300 dps, other times I came out ahead by as much as 600.

But I did more dps than the Priest from the Horde-side best guild on the server. I guess it just goes to show that skill > gear a lot of the time. I'm not saying that I'm "better" than the guy, just that I might have brought my A game while he was having an off day. Or something.

Now I just need to focus on getting 4pc T10. I can't break my T9 2pc bonus until I do. -_-

Just watched the vid for Val and I think it's obvious that priests should focus on keeping the raid alive more than the other healers and help healing Val when possible.
It's not a fight where priests are going to shine by topping the healing meters, I'd rather stay disc and make sure people don't die.

LOL, in the Tundra. I think Blizzard will ramp up some in game happenings as Cataclysm approaches.

I dunno, I'd say it's much greater than me. At least it does something cool and useful. I'm just sitting here eating a muffin when I should be working.

Grats on Loremaster, Dadanox! That is a seriously admirable achievement. Talk about time and patience.

My guild has been kind of stuck on Rotface for a bit. We are mainly older players who never sought out Arthur Murray, so we have some coordination issues. >.>

We were very optimistic this week about our prospects in ICC. The extra buff helps of course, but I think it was more of everyone having absorbed the fight and knowing what to do. After we cleared the the first wing, we get the weekly that requires you to kill Festergut and Rotface back-to-back. Oh well, we thought, no free emblems this week.

We down Fester and move on to Rotface. We engage and everything is going nicely. We lost a dps around 50% to... heck I don't know, he just died.=/ We are pressing on, the dance going faster and faster until we we realize that the boss is under 10%. Everyone digs in, a couple more drop, the boss drops to under 5%. Vent has gone eerily quiet as we are pressing in for the kill... He drops to 4%, 3%, oh crap, only 2 dps left up...

We got him down to 2% before we wiped and immediately knew that this was Rotface's swan song. We downed him on the next attempt and then it dawned on us... we almost accomplished the weekly that none of us felt was remotely possible for us to achieve.

I hope we get it again next week. =)

I totally agree. It isn't a terribly difficult fight. It's like learning ballroom dancing, the steps are simple and straightforward. Oom - pa - pa, Oom - pa - pa... then the band looks at each other and starts going a bit faster. Oom-pa-pa, Oom-pa-pa... Then the guy on the accordion giggles and steps it up even further. OompapaOompapaOompapa until we fall down and go boom.

Grats on that! I hope to be able to report my own LK king (10-man, though) tuesday. Fingers crossed for the right people being available, the other priest signing unavailable and us downing him.

I bought Dual Spec on my priest today and (oh disgrace!) offspecced Shadow.

Tried it on a level 70 target dummy and did some 1380 DPS or so. I'm 73 at the moment. This is so much harder than healing! I forget what I'm supposed to do about once every 10 seconds and mess up. If more than stand and shoot is involved, I'll be lost! And to think that I used to be a respectable shadow priest back in 2007...

1. I ran Gnomeregan for the first time last night. Took the role of healer even though my spec at 29 was leaning heavily toward shadow. Did great and kept everyone alive. Tank said I could run with him any time.

2. Not technically an accomplishment: I found a sweet piece of cloth back armor at the auction house that raised armor, intellect and spirit for 1g25s. Not wearable until level 30.

3. I just made level 30 about 20 minutes ago.

It's been a great weekend.

Got into a functional ICC 10 and 25 PUG, and pushed past 5.4k gs. Also helped a friend out in Naxx 10 for the achieve, and after the better part of a year finally got that damn wand!

You will notice however, that healing VH is very relaxing. Throw a renew, a shield, tab out, read forums, flash heal, get a cup of tea. Since the tank can't speedpull his way, you don't have to pay much attention.

But you will come to hate Halls of Reflection with a bad pug though...

I used to dread hearing "Back in business" in there. >.<

I'm happy. Now I can go back to slacking again in raids.

Beating them on my tank is enough, I dont want to loose my faith in pug dps even more by outsmiting them.

I find trying to concentrate on more than one thing is a good way of keeping yourself from going into tunnel vision mode. Or rather training yourself not to go into tunnel vision mode. And that has to be a good thing, right?

This warrants a doublepost:
3539.3 dps on Volkhan in heroic Lightning Halls.

So I did my first instance as shadow yesterday (Violet Hold).

1. It's fun, even if I constantly mess up my rotation because I forget my keybinds.
2. Even with messing up my rotation, I still did 1400 DPS at level 76, doing this for the first time since 2.3 or so.
3. Mana efficiency is amazing.
4. I have half an offset now.
5. Did I mention it's fun? I'm gonna stay Disc for most stuff, both are equally fun, but this was a nice change. And I genuinely think Blizz succeeded in making it more fun than it was back in 2.3.

It's not because my druid is that awesome, just that I have no time anymore.

In my guild, everyone sucks at shaman healing. There are only those who suck less than the others.

The "others" just respec to enhance.

Mazra said it should get better as I near 80.

My feeling is just that I am lacking shields, I am lacking Penance - the closest thing I have is Riptide > Lesser Healing Wave, I run out of mana constantly and if I do need to AoE heal (which rarely happens on my priest to begin with, thanks to shields and Renew), Chain Heal just fails half the time because people aren't standing close enough together. And generally the tank constantly dies, but I'm not sure if that is because the tank is a random PuG, as opposed to someone from my guild who can tank.
