I spent about $100 to buy a copy of Amazing Spider-Man 39 just to get John Romita, Sr. to sign. Smiley: inlove

So yeah, I'll never have a defense against the nerd accusation.

Is the damage still Arcane > Fire > Frost?

Doesn't really matter--I loathe the Arcane mastery and lost of Mbarr, I can't stand the RNG-dependency of Fire, and don't like the ghosting requirement of Frost...

Actually no. It's a bit more convoluted than that really.

Arcane is definitely the easier spec. By a lot. Once you get the hang of managing your mana, it's pretty easy to do good damage.

Fire is really only good for one boss fight in Firelands, and for that one fight it's ridiculously OP. Like, the logs on it for heroic are in the 150k area. Other than that, it's single target is mediocre. It's AoE is still pretty good, but there aren't that many situations in Firelands that really call for AoE. 3/7 bosses have AoE phases, but those phases are really short and none of those adds have a significant amount of health.

Frost requires A LOT of muscle memory to get the hang of. And it's AoE is very frustrating. I'm not sure how familiar you are with Firelands fights Digg, but there's a spider boss that has some AoE phases, and I can do really good dps on my mage if I can get to those adds before anyone else. Otherwise, my dps on that fight tanks fast. What's particularly frustrating, is that because of the way the Arcane mastery works, Arcane can actually do more damage with Blizzard than a Frost mage can, which is stupid. It really needs a buff in damage, and it'd be nice to have it either cost less mana, or be mobile. There are a decent amount of CD's to keep track of, and two different procs, which is what makes the spec rather difficult to master. That said, once Frost gets their hands on the t12 4 piece and are shatter capped, the rotation supposedly becomes much smoother and we do comparable dps to Arcane, provided the person knows Frost well and isn't ******** up.

TL;DR version: Arcane is greater than or equal to Frost, which is greater than Fire, except for one boss fight in Firelands, when Fire pwns everyone else out of the water. The problem is, Frost has such a bad reputation for PvE that there are significantly more mages that run Fire full time than run Frost.

What do you mean by ghosting though?

I actually don't think ghosting is something that matters on boss fights anymore, since FoF only applies to Ice Lance, but basically it's getting an instant fired immediately after a frost bolt to also take advantage of Shatter. Since FoF only applies to IL now, it's not an issue (on bosses, since they don't freeze).

But that leads me to part 2 of what I hate about the frost changes--the loss of Frostbite. That alone made Frost DRASTICALLY less interesting to me.

Not to mention that Deep Freeze still feels like an absurd gimmick.

Frost is just a horribly designed hell hole that has had makeshift buffs cover all the ridiculous problems it has. Kinda like Arcane. And Fire for that matter...

Which REALLY brings me to the real issue--Mages are stupidly broken because of Cata changes, but Blizz is just pretending they aren't. This isn't unique to Mages, of course, I was just more invested in them than other broken classes. It's kinda telling of the whole reason why I have no desire to play WoW anymore. Those issues are just too apparent for me to ignore, even with the bandaids make them less so in between the massive balance changes that have been happening all the freaking time. Partly because they haven't bothered to make any class scale properly, and partly because they can't because they broke so many classes, so they can only change abilities after people attain higher gear levels (completely ******** over people not in those brackets).

Man, I'm trying to farm the T5 set and those fist weapons from CoT: Hyjal, but getting into a raid dungeon without a raid group is kinda hard.

Sure wish I had a guild to do this with...

*wink wink*

*nudge nudge*

In other news, I'm going to snap soon. I try to be civilized, patient, turning the other cheek, trying to show my view on things, but people just go "No, you're wrong and... no."

Once I get back home, Friday, I'll open a brew and let the rage consume me. Who needs Sage, anyway, right?

Where's the fun in ignoring stuff? I was the one bashing on apathy in that other thread.

Seriously, though, I hate anonymous rate-downs. It's a silent "No. Shush, you're wrong." and it pisses me off to no end. Especially when I see only six names on the Recent Visitors list. Smiley: glare

I want a discussion, dammit, not some anonymous display of disagreement! I want people to tell me why they think I'm wrong about something, otherwise I can't ******* change my view on it!

ARGH! Smiley: mad
