I've been trying to pay attention to my diet for a few months now. I've lost something like 20 pounds since January; I don't even know the last time I was below 200 lbs...

But I'm actually happy, because I haven't really sacrificed at all. I'm not eating foods I don't enjoy just because they're healthy, and I'm not avoiding things I love just because there's something better I could eat. It's mostly portion control (which did suck for about two weeks, until my stomach adjusted).

I've always loved fruits and vegetables, so I'm just making the effort to increase their presence in my diet. I've reduced meat down to one meal a day (in general, it's not a rule or anything). But I've never been a big meat eater, so that wasn't bad for me like I'm sure it would be for others.

I did cut down a lot on my drinking, but that's following the same rule--if I'm going to do it, I'm going to make it worth it. I reserve most of my drinking for when I'm actually out with friends, and/or for when I actually have something worth drinking. The fact that stuff worth drinking tends to be expensive has been very helpful in curbing my habits. Smiley: lol

I don't actually know how many calories I consume a day, because counting calories makes me want to kill myself. I just eat when I'm hungry, try to cut needless excess, generally balance my diet, and aim for more healthy fats than unhealthy ones.

That said, I had two beers, a barbecue chicken sandwich (with tons of cheese and carmellized onions, on garlic bread), and french fries for dinner last night. SO, it's really more the total picture than a meal-by-meal basis.

That's how I do it, but add pretty constant exercise throughout the day.

Gratz on the dieting diglett.

And FF20 is incompatible with the theme I had for it. Ugly default instead of wonderful and slick minimalist design. Smiley: frown

Grottenbier: not very good. Kind of funky but badly executed.
Drinkable enough to down a 75cl bottle in an hour though.

If it´s good beer, certainly.

The 2013 Duvel Tripel Hop is quite good by the way, it's Duvel*Saison whereas last year's was Duvel*IPA. It's not as amazing as the 2012 beer though.

First day of actual live cashiering today. So far it's pretty easy. I'm on my lunch break right now. I also finally heard from the redhead. I'm glad I didn't scare him off, but it certainly took him long enough lol. Hopefully it doesn't take another three or four days to get back to me on hanging out again.

My coach filmed us rowing for us to view and see things to work on from an outside perspective and junk. She put the video on YouTube.

I don't really know why any of you guys would watch that link (and if you did you would probably find it incredibly boring), but there it is - proof that I compete in a collegiate sport! Some of my family members actually wanted proof.

Oh also Horse, rowing is about going as fast as possible in a straight line, no fish involved only blisters. But you can drink a beer after you stop rowing because that's better than sport drink or something (google it, there's research on it). You know, ignoring the fact that I don't think Fishy is old enough to legally drink beer yet because LOLAmerica.

Spent the weekend cleaning out a closet. Found some "1990 Wonder Bread Stars" baseball cards from when my daughter was 3 years old. Darryl Strawberry, Orel Hershiser, Alan Trammell, among others, but not the entire set.

My half dozen or so cards are worth a cool $11.57.

The one filming is my coach. She drives a motor boat next to us as we row. Her job is to yell at us loudly enough so that we do the thing she's saying just so she stop yelling at us.

The person facing forward is my coxswain. His job is to steer the boat (he's got rudder controls you can't see) and, again, to yell at us and make us go faster. Our coach isn't there during the races, just us and the cox, so his job is to be the coach in the boat essentially.

Did I mention there's a lot of yelling?

Thanks! Some 4 person boats don't have a cox, and the guy in the back has to turn around occasionally and yell for one side to stroke harder than the other. Most pairs don't have a cox either, and a single never has a cox.

If it was flawless, I wouldn't need practice. So that's why I'm there. And if you think it looks bad from the outside, you should try sitting in a boat. Wobble everywhere, splashing, and a string of expletives accompanies every stroke. I end a race dripping wet, usually.

No, I don't work at a porn shop lol. I work at a grocery store, the same one I've been working at for the last 9 months. Only now instead of being a Starbucks barista, I'm a cashier. My body doesn't like it so far. I have to train myself to turn instead of twist. Twisting hurts A LOT after a few hours.

I got a new computer today. A small, 13 inch Dell Ultrabook. Wasn't too terribly expensive either. A little under $400.

Smiley: nod

There's a couple of different grocery stores here that can have a Starbucks in them. Shopping for food with kids is tiring, perfect place to put something to give you a boost.

And yeah, when the Starbucks craze was at its peak there were a couple of place I knew of that had 3 within walking distance; all of them fairly busy too. Nowadays there's a bit more variety, as in other coffee shops that basically do the same thing. Smiley: lol

Well to be honest, they are in Utrecht Central Station which is a rather large place and in the same main square there's also 2 of the same magazine store and 2 or 3 of the same to-go grocery store. It does get over 65 million people traveling through per year though so on average everyone in the Netherlands passes through that station 4 times a year.

After working at Starbucks, I'm really picky about my espresso drinks. I really don't like Dutch Bros (an Oregon drive through coffee place for you foreigners) because they use chocolate milk for their mochas, and their Carmelizer (a mocha with caramel) has so little caramel in it you can barely taste it. Plus one thing I've found interesting is that there are very few places here locally that have Cinnamon syrup. This makes me sad, because the Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce Latte is delicious and it's hard to find something comparable.

Hey Fish, about that coxswain - so he gets a free ride with a front row seat for the race, doesn't have to touch an oar, is extra dead weight for you guys to pull, and on top of that he screams at you? Do you guys ever just rock the boat to dump him?

Also, because the Boston marathon thread isn't really about the marathon anymore (or wasn't ever I suppose), 2:29:55 is what my brother ran. I'm at a bit of a loss of words about how crazy that time sounds. I seriously need to get off my butt and exercise more.
So instead you get one from the 1980's? It's actually getting demolished/rebuilt because it's too old and won't be able to handle the expected ~100m travelers a year in 2020. And Amsterdam has a much better looking station.

Also, 2:30 is a pretty damn good time, not that far off from the pros (who do it in 2:00 - 2:10ish?).

That's pretty impressive. The last time I ran a 26~ mile marathon was about 2:40ish. I adamantly refused to walk the following day.

Starbucks is to drinks as McDonalds is to food. That's about all there is to it.

I've had a cup of coffee at Starbucks once but because I just like cappuccino with no frills it ended up being an expensive and pretty bad cup of coffee. Not an experience that's worth repeating.

Yeah that's still 60 years on about anything around here. I mean there are a lot of nice looking restored stations and what not, but it's rare to see something built after the automobile took over. It's like stepping into a time capsule or something. So what's the new station going to look like?

Also, the winning time was 2:10. He has an olympic qualifying time, but that doesn't mean much here. Got to get him to immigrate some small country of like 60,000 people or something that way he can go. Smiley: lol

That's even more impressive then, I just know the world record is close to 2:00 so I made a guess based on that.

Also, the station will look like this when it's finished. I'd rather see Amsterdam CS but it's not bad I guess. It'll be just as outdated as the current one and get replaced in another 30 years.

I know the Boston Marathon is a big deal, but how big a deal is it? Our Big Deal Marathon™ gets people from around the world flying in for it, I'm wondering if it's the same.

For what it's worth, the news here specifically mentioned that there were no Dutch people injured. That doesn't really mean much aside from that it's reasonably likely that some people from the Netherlands competed in the marathon but that's all I got.
