Pork isn't actually all that healthy.

Man, I've been living off daal. I haven't had any in two days (great, right?), had some "Italian" rice thing with feta cheese and tomato yesterday and cous cous with too much rice and too much cumin today (I fixed it by adding chaat masala, which contains both rice and cumin).
But yeah, I haven't actually eaten any meat in a while. I don't know how long. Over a week, I think. Or maybe a week exactly; my flatmate gave me some liver curry to try at one point.

Uhh, halal chicken?

Just chicken in general. And daal. ******* love daal.

It's true. Pork has a much higher fat and sodium content than chicken does. Pork isn't bad for you necessarily, but it's not all that good for you either.

Better for you than beef, at least. But I so rarely eat beef that that doesn't really make a difference. :P

I think that depends a lot on the quality of the beef and what cut it is. Obviously ground hamburger with a high fat content isn't going to be good for you. But a nice 8 ounce steak is pretty healthy.

A pork tenderloin has half the saturated fat of a top sirloin (beef).

Sure, pork is unhealthy compared to chicken, or fowl in general, but pork has an undeserved bad rep as the 'fat meat' of the family. In part because people think bacon when they think pork.

just for the tenderloins.

I don't much care though.

Also I'm not sure this is valid, as they seem to have different cut standards, where beef they'll leave fat on and pork they won't.

Honestly, I just don't like pork. I never choose not to eat it because chicken would be healthier. :P I don't even have bacon all that often.

I tend to buy chicken because it's easily frozen in portions, where a lot of beef dishes call for larger cuts to cook properly. I tend to like lighter dishes, as well, so that further limits my options with beef. Chicken's versatility also means I'm more likely to have the ingredients for a good dish on hand.

I prefer beef over pork any day, but a hamburger is nothing without bacon. Nothing!

Also, I prefer duck over chicken.

I've only had duck once, and wasn't a fan.

I've had it once and I thought it was yummy. Had it at my very first thai restaurant. Oddly enough, I've never seen duck at any other thai restaurants since then.

I like duck, cornish hen, goose and turkey.

Chicken is best served fried.

I'm a vegetarian, in the sense that what I eat has, at one point in the food chain, had consumed vegetation of some sort.

Yeah, I haven't actually had any meat products in a while because the shops where I get my other food overcharge for it and I can't be bothered to go to Leith just to buy one thing.

I need to eat more meat. Lately I've been just eating pasta, noodles, potatoes and veggies.

Might go to Leith on Thursday morning to buy decent clothing and halal meat. Or next week. I don't know.

On a side note, applications for the internship exchange programme I wanted to go on next summer (the one that Andrew was on this summer) opened today, but their website is down. I've been looking forward to this...

Should have a phone number you can contact them with, but even without they shouldn't penalize your entry due to their own error. Good luck either way.

Ahhh internships... good luck. Smiley: smile

Also, I burnt myself on the iron last night. Thankfully it's getting cold out there now. Not long and I can start wearing winter clothes to work. You know, ones that don't require ironing.

Smiley: yippee

Oh, the deadline is still a couple of months away, anyway.

It's kind of weird. I discovered that they don't do Singapore, and it was one of the places that was definitely in my top 5.

I've got a definite top 4 now, but I think I need to put 5 countries down and I'm completely unsure what my 5th choice should be.
