Normally, I'm not, but I like her writing style. The main characters in her works almost all possess a sarcastic and dry sense of humor which is right up my alley (and very not like the teenagers I know). And while there are times where it's painfully obvious that the author is a woman (seriously, girls, you can't actually see a guy's muscles "cord" under his skin through a sweater), it's a lot more about beating the sh*t out of bad guys than Twilight ever was.
I also like her take on the mythos more than Stephenie's. There are angels and demons as the two warring "species" from other dimensions, with humans in the middle. Then there are the hybrids, like fairies (when a mommy angel and a daddy demon love each other...), warlocks (demon and human mix) and Shadowhunters (humans who drank the blood of the angel Raziel), plus those infected by the demonic diseases: vampires and werewolves. No one sparkles. Well, one Warlock does, but that's because he enjoys wearing glittery makeup (
he's homosexual, yes actually, he's bisexual).
And yeah, it's incredibly cliche, with the nerdy girl who thinks she's insignificant, suddenly able to see "the shadow world" which causes her to be pulled into this fantasy universe where she discovers that she isn't insignificant after all. Her best friend is in love with her, but she obviously falls in love with Mr. Fantastic who not only looks like an angel (something she reminds us of throughout the series), but is also a pretty badass demon hunter and killer (something he reminds everyone of throughout the series). You know, all the intrigues of a love story and all the various personalities that enable you to identify with someone regardless of who you are, but with way more focus on the cool stuff.
I'd call it an amped up Buffy clone.
