I watched Bill Nye too. Both were awesome science shows with different flavors. I think Bill Nye was probably more informative, but Beakman made science wacky and fun.

I skipped a lot. I don't care.

I saw that we have a TryStatePulldown component at work, I was looking for a pull down and saw that gem. I really don't care as it makes sense.

We decided cancelled has 2 ls even though canceled is also valid. Every cancel word that is longer has 2 ls. The talk was an hour long and we decided that as long as we consistent who cares.

I have actually started telling people at work that I'm barely literate, and I often as ask the para-legal girl how to spell things.

Programmers are shitty spellers.

Heh, a Dutch radio station does a top 2000 of all time each year between christmas and new year's. One of the highest new entries in the list is Slayer's Angel Of Death at 199. Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name Of also rose from 1454 to 188 so all the popfans are going to get some serious metal in their faces on the last day of the year. Usually it's only Metallica's One (and Nothing Else Matters but that's not really metal) on the last day.

Given how little space there is under the couch, I don't think so. I still put them in the washer though. I think he's been chewing on them because some had a lot of holes.

And I have no idea how many socks I'm actually supposed to have.

Holy cow.

Quote:
According to preliminary reports, a man with a semiautomatic rifle opened fire near Macy’s around 3:29 p.m. The man, who may have been wearing body armor and camouflage clothing, also was seen near the mall’s food court. Law enforcement sources confirmed that two shooting victims were killed.

At 3:15 my father-in-law was in the food court, and my mother-in-law was in Macy's. All are fine, but we're sufficiently creeped out to say the least.

Edit: For the record, it's 157cm high with a 60x60cm base. (~5'2" high and a 2'x2' base for you 'mericuns)

edit2: Found this through a Steven Wilson interview, it's interesting and weird. Not sure if I really like it yet. Still, worth a listen.

Fair warning, there's some spider footage in the video, somewhere around the 6 minute mark I think.

This one, I want to say I could really feel it working for me. It took a bit of getting used to though. It is kind of weird, and there's something vaguely unsettling about being in a drug-induced mellow state of contentment. But still in another way it makes me back in balance again, normal if you will. It's probably been a good 20 years since I've not had at least mild depression so it's a godsend in my book.

Well I suppose there's no way to be 100% certain. It was shown to be effective in Placebo-controlled double-blind clinical studies if that helps. Anecdotally, I've started to feel down a few times and realized I missed a dose. I know I'm doing better, but I've taken any number of steps, so you certainly wouldn't pin that all on the drug.

I took buproprion for a good while and it's a decent antidepressant. It's also one of the only ones that don't cause you to gain weight or lower your **** drive, so that's nice. In fact, because it's in the same family as Adderall and Ritalin, it actually decreases your appetite and helps you lose weight. It's usually the antidepressant us folks with ADHD get put on. That said, protein, you should look into 5-HTP. It's all natural, and it's the precursor to serotonin, so it helps your body make more. Plus it breaks the blood brain barrier, so it actually works (unlike some other all natural mood enhancers). For me at least, it's been better than any antidepressant I've ever been on, and there's no side effects. Make sure you are taking a good Vitamin D supplement too, as low levels of Vitamin D are known to cause depression.

Aha, so you do possess an imagination.

Anyway, here's more awesome music with visuals for Aeth.

Adagio in D Minor ("Capa's Jump") by John Murphy, from the movie Sunshine:

Aaand unclench.

Then there's Death is the Road to Awe by Clint Mansell from the movie The Fountain, but FOX has blocked the YouTube videos, so here's a video someone made with the music on top of clips from the appropriate scenes.

Yes, that's a bald Hugh "Wolverine" Jackman in a bubble. In space. If you're into philosophical/spiritual movies that look and sound amazing, you should give it a look.

I'm not saying the entire movie has been uploaded to YouTube... but it has (screw you, FOX).

Make sure you are taking a good Vitamin D supplement too, as low levels of Vitamin D are known to cause depression.

Do take a multi-vitamin with it, but there's no seasonal patterns or anything to the depression. Made other lifestyle changes as though (see off-topic threads).

Also remembering you're somewhat of an expert with this stuff. Smiley: grin

lol, I wouldn't say I'm an expert. I just got sick and tired of taking meds to make me feel normal, so I did a lot of research. I'd rather take a handful of vitamins every day that end up being cheaper than taking the meds, than take meds that artificially altar my brain chemistry. At least everything I'm taking is natural and is supposed to be there in the first place.

Not that I'm judging you, because I'm not. Everyone needs to find whatever works best for them. Just thought I'd offer it as an alternative. Smiley: smile

Yeah, I tried that for a while in my early 20's, didn't work out so well.

Works for me. I'm not suffering from depression though, just regular ol' crazy.

An antidepressant.

Stuff works like a charm I tell ya. Highly recommended. Smiley: wink
I took it for about two years, and just stopped it a couple of months ago. It does work, there were times during that two year period that I stopped it because, like Aeth, I hate taking medication, but I definitely felt myself spiraling down when I did stop it. And it definitely increased my appetite, although it could have been an idiosyncratic reaction in my case. I've lost weight since stopping it and I stopped taking it now because I no longer need it (although I have returned to WoW, and trade chat is having its effect on me . . .).

I don't know where my aversion to taking medication comes from since my undergraduate degree is a B.S. Pharmacy, but the only drug I take regularly now is Ibuprofen. Aspirin, by the way, is a miracle drug. Ibuprofen, being Aspirin's grandchild, is quite close to miracle status.

Aspirin is excellent for headaches, arthritis, general pain, fever, and is important for people who have had a heart attack and are prone to strokes. It "thins the blood" (a common fallacy - it inhibits clotting, the blood is not any thinner than before), and did I mention its great for fevers? Aspirin is by far the best fever reducing medication available. You cannot overdose on it, because you will vomit it back up before you take enough to even approach a lethal dose. Be careful, as with any medication, when administering it to children.

Oh, and I missed this yesterday - I grew up watching Mr. Wizard.
