They both suck. Hard. Most of those card game cartoons do. I get why kids might enjoy them, but I don't get how adults can actually enjoy that crap. It's 20 minutes of @#%^ all happening and then 10 minutes of some completely anticlimactic fight. The only reason I even watched Digimon was for the digivolve sequence.
And that new show... Yu-gi-oh 5D? After watching five minutes of an episode, I was ready to move to another planet. Seriously, one fight in that show is stretched out over more than two episodes. Why? Because they spend 30 minutes talking about what's actually happening on the screen. It's like the writers thought it would appeal to a blind audience by having them point out everything while also appealing to those unfamiliar with the Yu-gi-oh card game by explaining the rules of the game as the fight progresses.
Hero Dude: "Oh no, he used his blahblah card which gives his blahblah demon an extra two attacks with an additional two thousand power points! I would cast my blahblah card to counter it, but I can't as it's not my turn yet. Also, some insignificant character is in mortal danger due to the aforementioned blahblah demon now using its blahblah special attack to destroy the city. But wait! Because of blahblah rules, I can access my blahblah special card which I had in my thingy on my wrist. This special blahblah card allows me to resurrect two previously defeated demons. I resurrect blah and blahblah who were vanquished four episodes ago by Mr Evil Dude's blahblah demon which I vanquished two episodes ago!"
*commercial break*
Hero Dude: "Now prepare to face your ultimate doom of extra demise, Mr Evil Dude, because I resurrect blah and blahblah from their whatever dimension! And because I use a special blahblah card while my opponent is using his special blahblah card, I get to add an extra three thousand power points to each of my demons, thereby beating your demon by two thousand power points. And because of some inexplicable rule about power points, I now get two extra attacks each turn!"
*commercial break*
Hero Dude: "Now, I will use my blah and blahblah demons to vanquish your blahblah demon and save the world from your wrath!"
Mr Evil Dude: "Aha, you sprung my trap, insignificant wormling! While you did indeed use your special blahblah card to resurrect your blah and blahblah demons, you forgot that my blahblah demon is a level five soul reaper and therefore gets half of your resurrected demons' attack points! Furthermore, my blahblah demon can harness the dark energies from your resurrection spell to summon an army of ghouls which it then consumes for an extra one thousand attack points!"
to be continued...
And I'm not even exaggerating.
