Would someone like to post a good link to a pally build after the latest patch? I am a level 70 retribution pally that is doing no pvp. Also, it would be nice if someone could give reasons why they chose the talent tree that they did. I have read many pros and cons about the affects of Divine storm. Please lets hear some input on the matter. Cheers, Chilli.

i'll end up putting some recommended talent builds in this soon, but a short answer is at 70 i recommend:

http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?paladin=052320500033310302135031351000000000000000000000000000050000000000000000000000

this build intentionally has 2 talents missing from what you are allowed at 70. there are 2 things i'd recommend w/ those 2 points. either put on in SoC if you think you'll be using it (i.e. on trash instead of Martyr/Blood) and one in Sanctified Wrath, or put them both in sanctified wrath. Some might recommend getting the 3 min Hand of Protection in prot, but for the most part i don't think that's as useful as either 1 min off your avenging wrath (and the armor penetration especially now that DS is physical too) or 30 seconds off AW and Seal of Command... But that part of the choice i leave to you. otherwise i think this is the best talent build i've seen for a pve Ret pally.

Pro's and cons of DS? um, what in the world would be the cons? extra damage? um, AOE damage? hmm, maybe the healing returned is bad? i can't think of any reason not to take it. You should be careful when using it just like with any aoe ability so as not to break CC, but otherwise it's an awesome ability that will boost your dps quite a bit.

rather than explain ever part of this build i'll hope it's pretty self evident. if not ask about specific talents and i'll try to answer. the reason i take this build is it is every ability that will directly improve your dps except Sanctified Wrath which i recommend at least on point in anyway.

Thanks for the guide, ToolofJesus. Is there any chance you can change the green font to something darker? It doesn't show up well at all against the beige/pink background. Thanks.

ok, this post has mostly been updated for 3.1. I'm sorry I haven't finished my gear list or the last post of the guide so the enchants, gems and foods and potions are still out of date. I'll work on that when I'm not so tired. Stayed up till 2:30 last night in my excitement over the patch despite needint to wake up at 3:30 for work.... oh well. off to bed now.

You have HC as 9%, EJ are reporting this to be 8%. Who's correct?

Edit: Added in a quote for reference:

Quote:
32.8 rating gives you 1% hit. At level 80, we require 263 hit rating, or 8%, to be hit capped on white swings, specials, and judgements. Note that Exorcism and Consecration are considered spells and use the spell hit table, thus we can still miss with these abilities. As of 3.1 hit cap is very important, and quite a bit easier to attain - you need to be hitcapped in order to maximize your dps, so gemming for it isn't a bad idea. Hit is as good or better than STR until you are hitcapped, and then becomes worthless after the cap, so gear appropriately.

good catch goggy. I had been slow updating this for wotlk and somehow still managed to pass over it in my quick 3.1 update. i'll have to spend some time after work today to check for any other things I missed.

Nah, I'm not trying to catch you out. I know we've had our differences in the past Smiley: wink patch release is confusing for all, so I was just trying to clarify.

This just might be my colorblindness catching up with me but I think color choice of some of the text (talents and lists) is clashing with the backgrund when you have the background set to parchment (not a problem with classic). Apart from that good updates from BC to Wrath so far ToJ.

I actually didn't think you were trying to catch me. I just meant good catch as in finding it. I always appreciate any corrections to this. I may be slow to fix them sometimes (mostly I update a lot of it from my cell phone while i'm slow at work...), but without people catching my mistakes and pointing them out i'd be giving wrong info half the time. and yeah, when I had said before that I wanted the differences to be set aside and lets try again, I wasn't lying. Your post here was very helpful and appreciated.

on another note, I fixed some pretty major TOC inconsistecies (the section on spells was missing Avenging Wrath and the talent section was all jacked up - changed the section with the new talent tree setup but still had BoK, Imp BoK, and the old layout of talents in Ret). should be able to find what you're looking for better now based on the ToC.

and to Aurthorius, i'd be willing to change some of the text colors, but would appreciate some advice. do you have an idea of what would contrast better for you?

Probably anything of a darker shade would do the trick. I doesn't bother me personally (I just change my background if I have issues like that) but I was just thinking about my fellow color blind WoWers out there =P

First time anything WoW related has posed a problem for me like this though. I hear that Blizzard just added in an option for colorblind players in the WoW video settings. I'm taking a break from playing at the moment so I haven't had a chance to check this out personally.

Great guide, glade you're working to keep this updated for 4.0.1! Still a few sections that need some work though.

Gems needs to be updated. Yellow/orange no longer have hit on them, and has been moved to blue/green. Was looking for a 20 hit gem today and searched in the yellows forever until I saw it was now in blue Smiley: lol
