Another long one guys, but again worth it. Some of you will hate me though.
I was going to do a Heroic mana tombs pug, but after 2 wipes on the first boss our tank and healer bailed. I went into LookingForGroup to attempt to replace them (groups only happen if you do it yourself) and saw "need dps for pug gruul". I figured, "Ah, what the hell? At least I'll get to see Gruul's lair and get some experience raiding a 25 man for when my guild starts." So I pst the leader and got in on the raid.
Now, as a side note before I go on, kudos to anyone who ever ran effective 40 mans. I tried for the first 5 minutes to be tuned into the "bigger picture". I failed. Badly. By the time we got to High King, I realized that there was no way I could effectively do that. I ended up just putting my head in the game and just doing my rogue thing the best I could.
The high king was interesting, first shot we wiped (mainly because it was the first time for most of us) but finished with little incident the second try. He dropped the leather helm, and the other two (not rogue) legs. I roll on the helm and promptly got owned (I rolled a 7, a 100 roll won). We then proceeded on to Gruul. duh duh DUN
Most of us had never done it before, but the guild running it had us on vent and had a great leader issuing orders. The first attempt, we wiped at 56%. The second attempt got us to a mighty 37%, at which point the running guild were thrilled with their new best. The third attempt started great. We fought and fought and fought, and got him to 5%, at which point all, the tanks promptly died. The remaining raid got him to 3%, but the wipe was final. The forth attempt there was a miscommunication about the hunter's misdirects, so myself and three other dps were oneshotted in the first 10 seconds. Ouch
Attempt 5 was similar to attempt 1 and 2, eventually resulting in our demise. At this point many people have to go so they can go to work tomorrow. The remaining members decide that this is our last run of the night. After we get a bunch of replacements, we go time 6. It was a mighty and epic fight, worthy of legend in the oldest of scroll, retold from father to son for all of time.
We finally killed Gruul as a pug. Everyone I've talked to said this was impressive. He dropped some wrists, the pally legs.....and the rogue legs.
The rolls for the wrist came in, with me rolling a 1 (seriously, the first time I've ever even SEEN a 1) and lost them (d'uh). The rolls went for the pally legs, and then the rogue legs were up. All the rolls came in, mine a commanding lead of an 80. Then a 81 pops up.
My heart stopped. Completely.
Suddenly, another miracle occurred. The roller or the 81 said "jk, I'm a lock". I won the roll. I won the legs.
As I write this, I have just traded with the scryers for my legs. You guys have no idea how many times I've had to rewrite whole paragraphs of this because I keep hitting the wrong keys. My hands are shaking that much. I'm like a puppy at the pound, but I just got picked to go to a warm and loving home, with acres of green lawn. woot.
I also want to take another opportunity to thank everyone here. With all the knowledge I've gotten from reading these forums like a mad person, I wasn't even mildly unsure about exactly what I had to do.
So, in summary, this post marks roughly the moment where one week ago I dinged lvl 70. I have two peices of tier 4 armor. You guys all rock.
