Subtelty to level?Follow

#1 Apr 30 2007 at 8:19 AM Rating: Decent
I very much am interested in the subtelty tree because I want to be a primarily dagger rogue and shadowstep looks cool as hell. However, after speaking with some friends it was recommended that I go with the combat tree to level and then eventually (not specified when) I could switch over to subtelty or use it to supplement combat.

My question is, is subtelty a feasible approach to leveling? If so, what spec would best accomplish this. If infact combat is the way to go, is there an appropriate dagger build that would be good as well? Thanks for the answers in advance.

Well I can't vouch for how much if any faster comabt spec is than sub for leveling, but I leveled my Rogue from 1-70 usuing sub spec. It is more of a thinking process to level sub as you spend time maneuvering to get behind the target and you have to learn CC to survive. It was extremely fun, none the less, and I am enjoying Shadow Step immensely. (Just wish Shadow Step was more viable for a 41pt talent, like adding + dmg % for the intial strike after shadow stepping etc.)
I am in the process of leveling a Combat Swords Rogue jsut to see which I like better.

Bottom line is play what you have FUN with, that is the purpose of this GAME.

This is my current Spec and I usally rate top 1-2 in DPS.

Said this a few times now. Shadowstep is a fun little ability, but the Sub tree for leveling is probably the weakest of the three.

You can level sub just fine, but other trees (specifically combat) are a bit better at it.

I've always been specced for Subtlety, and it has it uses in leveling. I'm 56 right now and I don't have shadowstep yet, but lots of the other talents are great. Ghostly Strike ends up saving a lot of time and a fair amount of damage; I have about 25% to dodge normally, and with a GS it goes to 40%...a mini-evasion for 8 seconds; can't complain.

Preparation is great when you ***** up and your Vanish is on cooldown; saves you running back to your corpse.

The other trees are slightly faster to level with, but if you approach each enemy correctly with Sub, you can still level up fairly quickly due to the burst damage from Imp. Ambush (a must-have) among other things. If you have the patience to approach each mob carefully, it's pretty rewarding.

I leveled all the way into my early 40's as a Subtlety rogue, mostly because I did a lot of PvP. However, after switching to Combat Swords, I'd rather get my balls waxed than level another rogue with Subtlety.

If you have fun with it though, more power to you.
