Prof recommendation?Follow

#1 Apr 26 2007 at 3:37 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a lvl 40 destro specced lock. I'm at the point where I'm ready to drop my second gathering prof (skinning) and pick up a craft. Which prof would offer the greatest net gain as a warlock? Like, is there some sweet gear that I can only get if I craft it through tailoring? Or am I better off picking something that will make gold and then buying my gear in the AH?

Basically I'm torn between Tailoring, Engineering, and Enchanting. I know the latter two are gold-sinks until you lvl them, but I've saved up a lil nest egg for just that purpose and I hear they get you pretty good money once you're skilled enough.

Any recommendations would be helpful. This is my first character, so I don't really know anything about higher lvl gear or high lvl professions.

Tailoring gives the best high end gear for a lock. atm, tailoring is better than t5, i highly suggest tailoring

Enchanting doesn't have to be a money sink, if you think of it as another gathering profession. It can make you loads of gold while providing you all the mats you need to level it to truly high levels. The AH will be your farming spot. By buying cheap greens and disenchanting them, you can basically create mats at half price. You will also make so many mats that you will be able to sell the excess for full price. double your money while raising your skill is good. Be a master enchanter and have enough gold left over for your epic mount (and your flying mount when you get to 70).

I just dropped herbalism for tailoring. It was my only gathering skill, I had herb/alchemy for very long.
But I do have lvl 20 alt with maxed enchanting that I ony use for deing and selling mats in AH. Therefore any item I am going to create to level my new tailoring will go to her and be sold as enchanting mats.
I have all I wanted money wise and I still make gold, mostly with primal might (I prefere farming motes than herbs right now).
So I dont think it will be very tough to level tailoring (at least to 300, any crafting skill raising after that is pita).

I would say wait a bit, you still have time to decide and you wont gain that much as a lock with in example tailoring before you reach 70.
All the gear you need until then you can get from drops and quests rewards - specially in Outlands questing can get you very nice stuff.
If I was you I would stick to simple gold making with what you already have for a bit longer.

As of right now, Engineering is not that useful. Most of the trinkets have a chance to fizzle on targets greater than 60, and the higher level bombs are very expensive to make. Enchanting can be profitable if consider it a gathering profession, in that once your skill is high enough, you sell the stuff you get from D/E items. Your best best is Tailoring, since you can craft bags, nets, and epic quality gear.

Shadoweave armor set. OP might be Destro, but he still casts shadow spells!

One single reason (ok besides being bored with picking herbs) why I dropped my herbalism for tailoring :)
But I can farm all the stuff I need for it along with raising skill right now.
I think 40 is still tiny bit too early to drop gathering profession.

But, of course, whatever is fun for you :)
