Winterspring Frostsaber Question...Follow

I recently attained level 60 as my Night Elf Hunter, and while I was questing around Winterspring I fumbled across one of those purple and white tigers I've seen as pets once in awhile, Winterspring Frostsabers. Back of my mind went... "Oo, I'm 60... I can tame this now!" So I did it, if for no other reason than it's pretty and I thought it would be nice to have in the stable for when I wanted to just travel with it, or whatnot.

Little did I know at the time how stubborn this cat is! I've been keeping her well fed at happy status (125% damage, gaining loyalty) and she's been at my side for damn near 4 hours now and hasn't gained a single level in loyalty. That means no training points to learn new abilities... and she's eating my wallet alive, literally, with food costs and fishing/meat hunting time because I can't raise her loyalty to lower her food demand. Have I gotten in over my head taming this pretty kitty? I almost wonder if the thing can gain loyalty at all, and if so how long it will really take. If anyone's ever tamed one of these beauty's before I'd love to hear if you fared any better than I did, lol. Thanks in advance for any helpful commentary. :)

Loyalty always takes exp gain to level.

Or more appropriately, killing mobs that would give you exp.

No, it doesn't.

It just takes time, and the higher level the pet, the longer it seems to take. Once you gain that first loyalty level, though, the rest come quickly.

Different things are said to speed it up, including fighting and Mend Pet. Nothing's really confirmed, though.

Dude , I totally feel your pain ... At lvl 55 I tamed a elder shard tooth in winther spring and , same thing . He ate just about everything I had just to make him happy ... After a couple days of battling , I leveled him up a couple loyalty levels to I think 4 maybe 3 ...

Then in the midst of a hellacious battle he gains a loyalty level , I'm stoked and at the end of the battle I'm going to train him up and feed him all nice and fat ... Then before the fight is over he goes to un-happy (red), last guy to kill ,,, allmost there ... Boom ! He gets pissed and drops all his loyalty back down to 1 . AAAARGH ! Everythng I just spent ... Gone ... I immediately went to the stable and put his fuzzy fanny in the box .

I don't know if it's because these beasts are higher level but I don't remember any of my other pets gaining loyalty so slowly and losing it so quickly .

another thing ... last night My boar had the option to train dash rank 2 ... But that seems to counter act with the other run/stun (can't remember the name )... am I wrong here ?

I too tamed one of these cats. It took FOREVER to get loyalty up. I would suggest solo grinding until you get its loyalty built up. Once thier loyalty is maxed they don't seem to eat any more than any other pet I've had, but have plenty of chow on hand to get them there.

Charge and Dash share timers, so having both is redundant.

Charge is an immobilize, by the way. It's not a full stun (it doesn't interrupt casting).

charge is a great ability as it is, it would be scary if it was a full stun.. even a 1 sec one.

No, it doesn't.

Yes it does. fighting with your pet raises loyalty faster than sitting around doing nothing. You'll be waiting a hell of a long time to get a loyalty ding from feeding alone.

EDIT: I can't do those fancy new-fangled quote-within-a-quote quotes. We'll just all have to live with this post looking like this.

reply to this copies the post, including the name and other quotes inside it.

and it doesnt take xp to gain loyalty, fighting quickens the process, but its not about the xp.

Yeah, when the 2.0 patch hit, Broken Tooth became boring. So I tamed Shy'rotam (Horde Quest Frostsaber). It took FOREVER to get her loyalty up, I thought that it was bugged or something. I think it's just something thats with Frostsabers.

My wife tamed one of them and it took a little while to get that last point of loyalty. If I remember correctly, it took but it took a couple of days before she got the last 'ding'. Mind you we were only playing around 6 or 7 hours both days. So you're looking at a little marathon for the last point. But hang in there, it does reach it. Good luck!

So I could mow through a bunch of greys in order to boost it even faster? Does anyone know exactly what it is about fighting that increases loyalty gains?

Just tamed myself a new wolf yesterday, and while the loyalty is getting there, I don't like taking pets into instances with anything less than Best Friend. So if there's any tricks that can get him happier faster, I'd be happy to hear them.

I'm not entirely convinced that it does. Has there actually been a quantitative test on in-combat vs out-of-combat loyalty gain?

Some people think fighting helps. Some people think just keeping them fed works. Still others think it's about how much you do anything for the pet (including mend pet, revive pet, feed pet).

If it is indeed about those three abilities, then that would explain the increased gain in-combat (if there is an increased gain in combat). In which case you would need to focus less on killing and more on mitigating pet damage.

Yet, it still remains possible that the act of killing exp-worthy mobs (even if you get no exp) is a factor.

The fact is, though, that many hunters have their pets reach a new loyalty level seemingly at random, even while sitting at the AH. This counters the idea that a pet must fight to gain loyalty.

The only thing that everyone can agree on is that it takes time.
