Prot. QuestionFollow

Ok guys is it ok to start of your talent tree just going pure prot.
I know its good for great tanking but are you going to deal damage? And will that mess up PvP. Cause i plan to do quite a bit of BG and world PvP with two of my friends (ones a Priest and ones a Hunter) and i dont want to slow em down.
I plan to do alch for all the potions that help increase Armour and Defense and STR. My frinds are all gonna pay for my armour for about 1-20.
If Prot. isnt the way to go do i go arms?

If you plan to level up and do lots of world PvP, do not go prot. Put 3 points in for tactical mastery and then go into Arms or Fury.

Doing either of those as prot is probably one of the most painful things in the world, second maybe only to waking up next to Rosie O'Donnell.

From level 10 it's probaby not a good idea to go full prot, with the intention of getting tactical mastery asap. You won't see the full benefit until all 3 stances become available.
In the olden days, free respecs were given out periodically, so there wasn't a financial problem in going for another tree.

If I was levelling a pure prot warrior today, without any alts for financial assistance, or whatever, then I'd start by putting my first 5 points in Fury / Cruelty, which is a very common, and handy thing to do. Yes, you'll get Devastate at 55, rather than 50, but who knows, when the Fabled Warrior Patch comes out (Yeah, Yeah, I know - Nerfs R US 4 eva Smiley: smile) they may give us a free respec.

If you want ot be able to deal a lot of damage you should not select prot.

There is a contradiction in selecting prot and still want to be able to be successful in PvP.

This is, probably, the reason why there is a shortage of tanks for PUG's these days. Most players wants to be able to PvP, run instances and solo. For most classes this is not a problem since there is no confict, but for a warrior you need to make a choice.

However, while leveling up to 70, you can still tank without being prot. What I'm refering to when I say that you need to make a choice, is in the end-game. An arms/fury speced tank in Karazhan will most likely be a mana-drain for the healers.
