Theo, I think in a previous life you were named Occam, William of Occam. And you owned a razor ... or something!

Hips, if you wanna BG, you gotta forego some of the agi you've probably built up to level with and get some stam/hps!

Think about it. PVE the mobs are dumb and are taunted by your pet. You don't need much in the way of HPs - you need dps to put the targets down faster.

In BG you must be able to survive a warrior's charge, a rogue's stun lock opening, a mage's fireball/pyroblast, a warlock's soulfire - etc. They're on you and not on your pet (for the most part, there are some clueless noobs in BGs - even in Eye of the Storm, bwahahaha! But you can't count on too many of these).

You're up against twinks now. Yes, there are twinks in the 29 bracket. They got some badass gear. They use shadow oil or frost oil even. They're coming at you maxed-out and full-bore! This ain't tee-ball no more, son. You're in the ... well, let's not get crazy here. But you're playin' w/ the big boys now. Brace yourself.

Speaking of Occam's Razor (at which I'm obviously bad), I LOL when I find attempts to define it which clearly don't apply it -- making said "razor" doubly cutting!

I kind of like this one: "one should not increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything."

This would be easier if there was more detail, say armor, hp, stamina, agility, etc.
You're a big boy now, get you fingers out of your mouth.

Iponema, I think the funniest part is a) my RL name is Will(iam), b) my friends call me House because of my behavior, and c) there's a House episode named Occam's Razor.
#6 Apr 23 2007 at 12:24 PM Rating: Decent
Hah! That is funny! I haven't seen the "House" episode of "O.R." yet - will look for it. Fortunately that network does lots of re-running!

Edit - almost forgot - Arthas is being a tad mean, but he's right, OP. This is my new "crusade," too. Please tell us more about your gear, build, race, pet, etc. if you expect any real help from us. Arthas will actually help you if you help him help you. So please don't take it too hard - we're sometimes very gruff - but again, if you help us to help you, we actually can help you!

How am I being mean? I posted that because I heard it on one of my favorite childhood shows when I was young. =P

And as for House.. that is probaly my favorite Program next to Law and Order, but I haven't seen that episode.

Okay, hehe!

It's not mean.

But it might scare off the OP.

OP - we will help you. Give us more info - we'll give you BG VITAMINZ and help you PWN!

actually we can help you, so don't be put off by us, pls

I could swear some of you guys that posted, are the same fellows that give people crap for twinking. I'm just an average Hunter, wearing and using the best gear I can find for my lvl. I'm still trying to get certain enchants, but I keep getting the same song and dance "I don't do lwr lvl Characters..noob!"
I have sacrificed a few armour point for better agility and stamina, but no more than 4 or 5. Beside, at this lvl, there appears to be little difference between lvl 17 gear, and lvl 29 gear.

Wow, somebody is cranky. You want some help from people, you should show some respect yourself.

Also, that isn't very specific when it comes to stats. I mean, that doesn't even help. C'mon now, at least make an effort.

Okay, there's a big *** list.

If you plan on spending any time at 29, I'd look through that list and see what you can get.

If you just want to do this a week or two, I'd semi-twink.

Get help w/ the Raptor Hunter's chest piece. Get the player made blue items cheap off the AH. Get the gun/bow from the Hemet Nessingwary final quest (again you will need help w/ this from a high lvl player).

W/ some okay-ish sta gear, if you're a good kiter, you'll surprise yourself.

Enchants - get as many free ones as you can - sometimes people doing skill ups offer +5 and even +7 sta enchants for free.

Clefthide armor kit - this one is killer. You need boe pants (that's why Petrolspill leggings are "da bomb" - going for 100s of gold buyout atm, at least on my server). This kit is 60g on my server atm. I know, expensive, but look at all the hp and agi it give you!

Well, if you're semi-twinking and you aren't rich, don't go for the cleft.

Look at the other twink post that is on the front hunter page. Search around. I've posted several times on "semi-twinking" or "semi twinking" (search for those) - even though they are for 19 wsg, the prin. is largely the same.

Main diff in 29 BG is that rogues will be much harder to kill than in 19 UNLESS you learn how to nix their crip poison and kite away from them (dwarf stone form in awesome, FA antidotes - get a friend to cast remove poison on you). Well, there are many other differences, but this should get you started.

It's okay if you don't have good gear or don't like your talents. Tell us more if you want real help. The above should get you started, but people can't help you much more unless we know what your specific issues are. GL!

Having scanned the list - there are a lot of basic green hats (you can find on the AH) w/ stam.

There is a +7 sta cape you can get, if horde and if revered w/ tranquilium in ghostlands.

There are plenty of "of the monkey" and "of sta" options for greens at this lvl - just keep an eye on the AH.

If you can play enough to get some honor points, buying items from the pvp venders is good - ESP. the AB boots!! They have built-in speed. These require some dedication to get but honestly aren't that hard to get.

Corpsemaker is an easy ax to get (duel wielding better stat weapons - like of the monkey axes, might be better), but you will need help.

Hint - you're getting to 28 and 29 and still need to go to instances/quest for items. Team w/ a lvl 70 - this drops your experience gained a LOT. Or you start the fight - when the creature goes "gray" to the 70, the 70 kills it off - again taking your exp (a horde 70 can help an alli 29 this way, e.g.).

Leave a BUFFER - don't get too close to 30! Leave at least a 6 bar buffer!

Instances - let the 70 clear to the boss while you stay outside. Don't needlessly gain exp if you need to quest for more stuff. Okay, when the 70 gets to the boss, have him come back to entrance, killing any patrol repops. You enter and go w/ him to the boss. You start the fight and LET THE BOSS KILL YOU. The 70 kills the boss. Do group loot and NEED the item if it drops. (wait to click the button that sends you to the gy, obviously - or if the 70 can rez or soul stone you, do that).

EDIT (the point of the above paragraph is that you can get boss-dropped bops w/out gaining a single exp point! Good to know if you're getting close to 30 and find a friend who will run you thru RFK or someplace)

You don't need to fully twink to survive 29 wsg/ab. But you do need non-crappy gear. And you need to know how to get away from meleers that get on you.

Tell us your info - like your race. I play several twinks and LOVE it! Some are mere semi-twinks on servers where I have no 60+ and no guild to help. Others are FULL ON badass mutha twinks who pwn! Stop waffling and saying we tell you not to twink - I don't. Many of us don't. ANd... if you have a block... I've done what I could, bro. GL!

edit - quest ring from killing arugal is good (is it horde only?). Anyway, if you just get some +sta items and even a few enchants - and get your survivability up to "passable" - you'll find that you can work on your kiting skills and actually do okay in 29 ab and wsg. Once you get really good at pvp/bg, you might even do better than okay and shine at it! Have fun!

Thx Iponemagirl, that's all I was looking for. I post at my office, and don't carry my Stats around in my pocket, nor do I memorize them. Thats why I didn't provide more detail, but I truely appreciate everyone's willingness to provide me with as much info as possible, even if I don't provide ALL the details!!!

Okay - just tell us what you remember. Start with race. Race does affect how you play - can you shadowmeld, can you stoneform, can you war stomp?

Race lets us know side - you can't get certain things if you're on one side cuz only the other side can quest for them.

If you have a high lvl char, try to arrange w/ another high lvl person to trade off "twinking" duties - get some good stuff from instances for each other. Guildmates often do this for each other.

GL!

O.K., my character is an Orc Hunter, and he wears a full set of "The Fang" armour. I know it's lwr lvl gear (lvl 17 mostly), but I've had it all, or at least most of it enchanted with +armour(35). I've search the AH trying to find gear with better stats, but it's just not there. It's really amazing how little difference there is between lvl 17 and lvl 29 leather. I had intended on providing my stats, but haven't had a chance to do any gaming this week.

Thx again for your advice!

I am a lvl 45 Orc hunter, BM specced, with ~80 stamina and 250+ agiliy. I get pwned sometimes too, my HP just isn't high enough to take a lot of hits, BUT, I pay attention to my surroundings keeping Track Humanoids on ALL the time and throw out a flare whenever I think I need to (granted flare is lvl 32). My point is dying is a part of BG, and paying attention to whats around you is also necessary, throw down traps (no flame traps, stopping the target from killing you is much more important that a weak DoT trap)and always use your tracking and hunters mark to keep people in your sights keep your pet on em and use concussive shot whenever its available. Learn to kite, even an ok kiter can devastate an ok leather or cloth wearer. But as everyone has said, main stats for PvE and PvP differ. Agility is still the most important, but in PvP the balance between Stamina and Agility must be well thought out, with Stamina sometimes becoming your dominant stat.

Also I give everyone that ever asks me if I have advice on how to be better at a game...... Don't Die.....it's bad for your health.........do what's necessary to not make it happen.
#19 Apr 26 2007 at 6:22 PM Rating: Decent
Hips: your armor is 90% of your problem.

Of the Fang armor is completely wrong for lvl 29 ab and wsg.

My lvl 19 wsg twink hunter has over 1800 points with the +20 sta priest buff, which we often get before we go in. W/ +60 hp food, I think it's over 1900 hp.

In other words, there's a very good chance my 19 hunter could, if we just stood there shooting each other, kill you. I'm not 100% about that, but I wouldn't bet against me.

(edit, I say this not to brag, Hips - I'm trying to shock you into action! You need better gear, much better gear!)

You need STA enchants, not armor enchants. You need Clefthide leg armor kit on your legs. You need to watch the AH on both sides - horde and alli - make a toon on the alli side and get him money. THere is usually more armor over there. I know there often isn't a lot of good leather for sale; it gets snapped up quickly, too.

You must get "of the monkey" and "of stamina" armor to compete, period -- or better.

Better is two of the rewards from the Hemet Nessingwary quests in STV. Raptorhunter or raptor hunter tunic and Panther pants (or something - maybe tiger hunter gloves - two of the 3 rewards are killer). The gun/bow that drops from that quest is very good, too - from the final quest. You need help to do these. If you're already 29 you may ding... so....

Just do the best you can. There is HUGE and I mean HUGE difference between standard 29 twink armor and your "of the fang" armor - which to be brutally honest is junk for even the 19 bracket.

If you can't get the STV chest piece, get someone to run you thru Deadmines. Kill Van Cleef til u get his chest piece - blackened defias chest. It has huge sta and is okay for lvl 29.

How many HP you have at 29 w/ that fang armor? 900? 1000? 1100? You're up against people with TWICE that.

If you can't get the best, as a hunter you can always "semi-twink" w/ greens and use skills to survive/do okay-ish in bg. But you need tons of sta. As much as you can get.

Stop telling yourself "it's amazing how little difference there is between armor sets from 19 to 29." Your of the fang armor is no good for 19 - period - and it's really no good for 29. Sorry to be so harsh, but you seem like you need to rules read to you - so I'm doing it. But only to help. Honestly.

Look for a Chesterfall musket on the AH if you can't get the STV hemet nessingwary final quest reward gun or bow. There are other blue guns/bows that are ok-ish -- or just go for the WSG outrunner's bow; it's good.

Good luck with this. Check the AH morning, afternoon and night. Some player made leather is okay-ish - but tends not to have the sta you need. GL!

since i am extremely bored.
pet: Boar, this is the highet obe outside of an instance you can get
bow PvP bow will do fine.
lvl 29 green of stamin or of the monkey 2hander from AH.
cape aslo from AH. cheaper green one lvl 27-29 of the monkey/of stamina will do if your going cheap.
boots also PvP.
ring 1 of the monkey/stamina.
lvl 27-29 green ring as 2nd.
gloves crafted, so cheap. and the best you can get.
green helm of monkey/stamina
legs AH
neck PvP again.
chest from the STV quest. requires high lvl help.
shoulder AH.
bracers crafted, so cheap from ah.
i found that in 3 minutes, now compare those to what you have.
then come back and say how "small" the difference is.

and i havent even started on enchants yet.
your legs alone can get +35sta and +12 agi on them. (that is 350hp if you care to know)
#21 Apr 27 2007 at 12:36 AM Rating: Decent
I'm bored, too. Hips, take a look at the following. It will help you see what I'm trying to tell you:

Quote:
Armor of the Fang
Binds when picked up
ChestLeather
82 Armor
+2 Strength
+7 Spirit
Requires Level 18

Now this:

Quote:
Blackened Defias Armor
Binds when picked up
ChestLeather
92 Armor
+11 Stamina
+3 Agility
+4 Strength
Requires Level 19

And now this:

Quote:
Raptor Hunter Tunic
Binds when picked up
ChestLeather
117 Armor
+4 Strength
+16 Stamina
+3 Agility

See the difference? You got no sta buff at all (fang) vs +11 sta vs +16 sta. All of these are free - boss drop or quest item - but you need high lvl help to get em.

Now this:

Quote:
Leggings of the Fang
Binds when picked up
LegsLeather
79 Armor
+5 Strength
+4 Stamina
+9 Agility
Requires Level 18

vs:

Quote:
Panther Hunter Leggings
Binds when picked up
LegsLeather
96 Armor
+11 Stamina
+10 Agility

or:

Quote:
Triprunner Dungarees
Binds when picked up
LegsLeather
101 Armor
+6 Stamina
+18 Agility
+3 Strength

and:

Quote:
Gloves of the Fang
Binds when equipped
HandsLeather
47 Armor
+3 Agility
+2 Strength
Requires Level 14

vs:

Quote:
Razzeric's Racing Grips
Binds when picked up
HandsLeather
70 Armor
+9 Stamina
+8 Agility

Quote:
It's really amazing how little difference there is between lvl 17 and lvl 29 leather.

That may be generally true, but there are some pieces that are so good -- well, you've seen what happens when you fight other 29s who have them: you get splattered like a bug on a Mack truck's windshield!

All of the twink items I've posted you can either quest for in your high 20s or, w/ help from a high level, get from a a boss in an instance.

Please tell me you see the difference that gear makes now!

There are two main issues at work here.

The first is that the OP is unwilling to work with people who have done a huge amount of legwork to assist him. Count the number of times he has been asked to provide more information, realize that a simple link to his Armory profile would have answered all request for more detail, factor in the "you guys are being jerks" response to some tough love (Theo's "Get more HP" post, while terse, cuts to the chase and is not insulting), and it's clear that this is a poster who needs to be led by the nose to receive help.

The second is that the OP does not yet understand that there is a big difference between PvE and PvP gear, and also is most likely drawing that conclusion from drops he has personally seen, not from the AH or a fan site. His remark that there's not much difference between level 17 and level 29 gear bears that out. There isn't a huge amount of difference in armor suitable for PvE play, unless you first come to understand that STA is king in PvP, and second understand that there's a lot better armor out there that you'll never see drop while questing in Barrens.

I applaud all the people who have taken their time to post detailed instructions to this poster. I don't think it'll help him at all.

Ugh, twinks.

Stack agility and stamina. Get +attack power/stamina enchants and armor kits. Forget about strength, spirit and intellect.

Hey Kompera, quite pulling "Main issues" and assumptions outta your @$$.

I've learned a great deal from "MOST" of the posts. Special thanks to IponemaGirl, Katchii and Aethien. It's obvious I've just been looking in the wrong place for the right gear. Your time, patients and advice have not gone to waste, and are appreciated. Thanks for being direct!

Another rude remark to somebody trying to help him. Hips, Kompera was stating what you had to to become a better poster. Kompera was stating that you did not post details in your post, and all you had to do was provide a simple armory link! You didn't even bother to do that in the last post. We need details, this point is very nicely shown by yourself

Thanks for being direct!

And still at the last post, you spent your time insulting somebody trying to help you, but you still didn't post what we asked in order to help yourself. You have 77 post and by the post you made so far, nobody is really going to like you very much.

No, you're just an *** who hasn't contributed to this forum, and thus has no right to be an ***.

I, on the other hand, have contributed quite a bit to this forum, as have posters like Kompera, Iponema, etc, so we're not likely to get ******* at by other regulars, since this is how we normally post.

We're likely to help people that come into the forums and post a well thought-out post, including armory links and what they want to do with their character, but as Arthas pointed out, you didn't do any of that.

Oh, and Kompera hit the main issues on the head. You're a) ignorant to what PvE versus PvP gear means, b) unwilling to take your head out of your *** long enough to learn from Hunters who have much, much, much more experience than you, and c) you're just an all-around asshat.

Shall I install a window in your stomach so you can see? That's about how far you've got your head up your ***.
