There's a hunter skill which involves being able to directly control your pet.

When/how do you ever use this? I pretty much just use it to make my guildies laugh because I cannot figure out *any* time where it would come in handy since it leaves you unattended and undefended. If I want to run around as an animal, I'll play my druid.

Does anyone ever use it?

Yes, of course. You can use it to scout. If you have prowl on your cat, you can scout stealthed. Your pet might get attacked, but I think you don't get attacked as long as you just let your pet die (then you rez it). Haven't done this in a long time, though.

I believe you can even make your pet attack things under EotB.

Don't do this in instances though, use EotB to fight...it's worse than a melee hunter.

the most common use for eotb is for a few pulls in raids, altho its usefullness isnt quite as big anymore since misdirect, a pet pull can still be used for as a "safer" way tp pull

nice to have when the prince in karazhan bugs out for example

Mostly a fun ability, but useful for scouting and long-range pulls. Or both together.

Several times I've lost track of an elite quest target, so I'll park myself in a safer area, use EotB to find the mob, whack him and then cancel EotB.

EotB is also useful in raiding to put your pet behind the boss so you don't get parries and blocks on his melee attacks.

I always use it if I have to drop down or make a tricky jump in an instance.

Nothing causes a wipe like your pet taking the long way around!

First time in UBRS:

"Theo, dismiss your pet and jump down."

"Um, why? I can just use EotB."

"Just do it please..."

*uses EotB and makes pet jump down, while guild leader is freaking out on vent*

When I run friends and guild duders through low level instances, I use it to round up everyone in the area and bring them back to where I'm standing. Then you can explosive, volley, multi, and then just pick off the stragglers...

(or move it out of the way if its blocking sight)

How do you cancel EotB? I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing works.

Right-click the EotB buff icon. Should work on any buff.

EotB is extremely useful in PVP. I use it constantly in WSG to scout ahead, find the FC and for strategically placing my pet and hitting the stay button. Having your boar posistioned several yards away will give you an advantage against stealthed rogue attacks. Having the distance allows the boar to charge and stun, giving you added time to recover, wingclip and get distance.

Yeah, those are all great uses, but the best one is to just make bears jump. it's so cute.

It's plenty useful, as several have pointed out. Hovever, since you can't use the /dance emote to make your Pet dance while controlled via EotB, I call it a broken ability and demand that Blizzard fix this obvious and game breaking oversight immediately.

There's nothing like using EotB and parking your huge freaking turtle over a gnome. I usually combine this with counting how long it takes for them to move out of the way.

Even better, you know they're a noob when they start jumping to look around...

It's good for all the things mentioned, plus it often scares the crap out of people in PvP. Watching a mage run around in circles "looking for the hunter" is one of the funniest things you can do to a gnome. Aside from... turtle parking.

Occasionally, in a BG, I see pets running around without a Hunter. This usually tells me that the Hunter in question is probably pretty bored...

But I cannot help but REALLY want to try it out. How fun would that be? Earning some HKs without doing much but making my pet unhappy. :P

I can just imagine that it would be useful for your group as well in a way. Anything that will disorient your opponents and cause them to waste some CCs is good in my book.

It is like when you attack someone in the opponents flag room, so they follow you instead of the flag. I LOVE it when I get 3 people following me out of the flag room and I die. Why? Because I am happier dying than my carrier dying. :)

I use it to unsummon my pet without losing happyness and combining it with a break as well. (Eyes of the Beast, Autowalk in arbitrary safe direction, and come back petless.)

Why on earth Dismiss still has that annoying happiness cost beats me anyway.

Scouting-wise it's not too good, since a lot of things simply don't load if you're not near, instances will usually appear empty.

You'll have to be more specific, because I've never noticed that problem with EotB. There are, in fact, places where the pet can be used to trigger an ambush rather than having the party walk into it.

Regardless, I've never once used EotB in an instance and been unable to see mobs. How did you come to "usually?"
#25 Apr 24 2007 at 11:10 PM Rating: Default

i did that when PvPing at 49, use EotB and throw a big red kitty in the flag room.
then capture the flag and run like mad!
worked about 50% of the time, then again... i just died halfway through the field because everyone else was running around doing anything but helping me (jup.. alliance)
