Hi, just wondering if anybody new what this does. On the tooltip it says that it increases the chance of your spells to hit the target. I know that sounds pretty straight forward but I'm curious if it is would be similar to the suppression talent in our affliction tree, that it reduces the chance for a spell to be resisted.
Any help here would be appreciated
Thanks

Although I've never raided seriously as anything but a healer, my understanding of +hit is that on some mobs, usually raid mobs that can be several levels above you, spells actually miss. The +hit rating lowers the chance that will happen.
Spells being resisted are different.
I would say +penetration is better, because mobs will resist more often then you'll miss.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

It will reduce the # of full spellresists on mobs, especially those of higher level.

Against mobs of your own level, you have a 4% miss chance. +1 levels is 5%, +2 levels is 6%, +3 levels is 17% miss chance (the big problem). In PvP this is slightly different (+3 levels is 12% miss iirc). There is a base 1%miss chance no matter what.
This really comes into play against raid bosses that you've got a 17% miss chance against, and +hit becomes vital in order to keep your DPS up.
12.6 hit rating is an extra 1% chance to hit at level 70. Suppression effectively gives 10% to hit with Affliction spells, but you'll need some for your Destro spells.

Spell penetration is ONLY useful against reducing the effects of resistance, which means in raids (where CoE or CoS should constantly be up and negating almost all resistance) it's near-useless compared to +hit.

hit rating reduces the chance that your spells wil be resisted based on lvl, as lvl 70 12 spell hit rating = 1% to hit with spells, so if you are only grinding you'll need 12x4 = 48 spell hit raiting in order to metigate 4 of the 5 inate resistance a lvl 70 mob has, if you raid the raid targets count as lvl 73 and therfore have 17% resistance, 16 of wich can be metigated, 192 is the spell hit raiting you are aming for.

raiders prioritize spell hit higher than spell damage, because a) they have so high base damage that spell hit increases their dps more than spell damage. Generaly you only need 1k shadow bolt damage for spell hit to pwn spell damage.

secondly when banishing is important then spell hit is your true friend!, because there spell damage dosen't help you

do not confuse spell hit with spell penetration, spell penetration subtrackts from the enemys resistances (fire/shadow for warlock) where the hit raiting subtrackts from "lvl resistances"
