Warriors in PvP... Your Advice/Opinions?Follow

#1 Apr 16 2007 at 9:52 AM Rating: Decent
Hello,

I am interested in PvP, and I have some experience in PvP, but not with the warrior class. I was just curious as to how Warriors do in PvP. What are their strengths? Warriors don't have spells; don't seem to have ranged attack, so do they make up for it in melee damage pretty well? Honestly, I'm just wondering if Warriors (played correctly) get whooped in PvP, or if they are decent killers. Any advice or opinions would be greatly valued. Thanks a lot!

well, to be honest warriors arent the absolute best class for PVP

we get hard pwned from a couple classes

but in battlegrounds, it probably makes sense to hook up with a good healer (pally!!) or a good pvp group

a warrior and pally combo in BGs ownsss
at times it can be frustrating though, but at times a world of fun, especially if you spec arms

Yeah alone in solo combat you can get beat down faily easily by almost any class if the other person plays their toon somewhat well. but if you have a healer with you.. you can down several enemies in short time especially a hamstrung clothie. it took me a while to enjoy pvp on my warrior once i found some healers to run with it was alot more fun. try whispering any healers in your bg when u enter and ask them to run with you most will agree and pwn along side you the entire time.. then u get those that want to dps and steal kb's from oher people.. but you can cause alot of havoc with a war healer duo. just make sure u dont charge into a mob of guys whith no team mates around you as you will get downed fast

Ok well, yes , you will get beat down by any "good person". But you actually learn how to play a warrior, utilize your skills and apply them as fast as you can!You can be a lethal weapon, i take out mages ALL the time 1 v 1. Same with locks, bm hunters, other equally/better geared warriors. You just need some decent gear, and have to know what to do. Playing a warrior is just like playing any other class in PvP. Except i like us a lot better since we have a utility called "rage". This allows us to keep going and going and going and going, just like the energizer bunny!
So please, stop spreading this stupid rumor that warriors suck 1 v 1 and go L2PW.

I agree with the above poster.

we DO NOT get whooped by almost any class 1 vs 1. The only people that do, are the noobs that start a fight in battle stance, and never stance dance during the fight, and never bothered learning first aid to heal themselves after a fight in a BG before movnig forward. We arent like other classes. A frost mage most of the time will only use what they specced for - frost. A balance druid will use...well, balance spells such as wrath/starfire/moonfire etc..A holy paladin will try to beat you down with, holy spells, a shadow priest will use mostly, shadow etc..

A warrior on the other hand, regardless of spec, is forced to use ALL abilites available to him, regardless of spec. Sure, we can spec fury or Arms. Yeah, we will use MS, or BT, but point is, we need to use a hell of a lot more to bring down our opponents.
As soon as one learns to do this, the warrior is just as viable in pvP as any other class. I remember when 2.0 came out, people were talking like the warrior class was finished...pfft, i took the time to learn the class, i took the time to get the gear, and rocked every single BG I went in. Am I being cocky? No. I am stating a fact. Our class is fine, we are very strong in PvP and PvE.

We are a very gear/skill dependant class. aka : You really gotta know what youre doing, or this class isnt for you.

Hunters, stand and shoot, youve got tons of range, and a pet to fall back on.

Rogues, youve got vanish and a number of other "holy ****" buttons to fall back on

Mages and warlocks , have immense amounts of CC to fall back on, and a pet for warlocks or frost mages.

Shamans, druids, paladins, priests all have healing to fall back on, on top of decent CC for some of them, shields, and high armor (<-- spread among the classes, they do not ALL have the above listed)

What does a warrior have to fall back on? We have no blink...No frost traps...No pets...No heals (other than draenai but i am talking in general) etc.. All we have is our high armor ( GEAR! ), which is uselss against casters and a players ability to control situations and pick and chose fights ( Player skill )

So where does that leave us? Alot of players that like the idea of some powerful knight riding on his horse with shiny powerful armor and weapons, they then roll the class, and think it is going to be EZ mode, or have as much survivability as other classes.

No my friend, we dont have those, and blizzard is not going to give them to us. LEARN YOUR CLASS.

To the OP, if you are considering a warrior, GREAT, but, if you dont dedicate yourself 100% to getting GREAT gear, or REALLY (im talking alot of HARD work and practice) learning your abiliities and the stance dance...Well, like many others put it, you will be a sitting duck.

My recomendation : Play, duel people ALOT, run those instances to get your gear, and before you hit the BG's, watch a couple warrior PvP videos (I recomend Laintime, he doesnt use too many CD's and pots/pocket healers) to get an idea of how warrior combat goes down.

Good luck, and chose your class wisely, warriors are not for everyone :P

Our strengths in PvP? They actually don't start showing up untill the 40's and 50's really, at least they didn't for me. Until then it was tough and a LOT of trial and error but now I can generally place in the top 5 in HK's and when I reach the 9's even top 5 in damage and KB's. Strenghts? Int Shout, Hamstring, and Mortal Strike when you get it. You do have to be strategic, pick your fights but you have some nice AoE's to help Debuff and sometimes just for fun when I see a mass of horde closing in and only a few of us Allies standing in their way I'll charge into the mass of them and hit an Int Shout just to scatter them and hopefully give the other Allies a chance to start the fight with an advantage. Sure I die :-) But it's still fun :-) And there's nothing like getting a big crit, hearing them groan and convulse from the blow and then watch them back peddle like crazy to try and get away from you. They may still kill me but it's fun to see :-)

warriors have one ability that none of the other classes have (save perhaps feral druids, as illustrated by the "feral druid tanks at lvl 70??!!?!" thread)... the ability to give AND take huge, whopping heaps of damage... that is the one thing that attracted me to warrior both in FFXI and here in WoW. if we had one lousy healing spell it would be totally unfair for everyone else ^^

rogues rely on their dodge and agility, can't take much damage.
shamans can only wear up to mail.
pallys can wear plate but can't really DPS all that well.
hunters have feign death for a reason ^^
and then there's your squishies ^^

if you use the appropriate buffs/debuffs, attack quickly, pick and choose your fights and team up with a healer you can be a force to be reckoned with.

In a BG its all about combat psychology.

From my surveys of about 4000 kills.

It seems there are certain globs of people that show up.

The main body (that mob of people on the map lookin for kills)

Solo artists (lookin for stagglers)

And Tacticians (mabey 2 to 4 guys who team up by chance or started in a group)

Most people in pvp only talk about the tactical perspective of a war. ie: having a healer by his side; or some percieved "fair" instance combat. Im not gonna talk about that... everyone gets it.

Treat it like Iraq... dont play fair... war is never fair.

-When a warrior is in 'the main body' of a fighting force, a warrior can easily be the leader of every assault. He can run in and likely die without a heal, or pop off some aoe's, put up a solid smile, and lead the attack to victory.

I say in that scenario protective stance is a must. If the main body works to concentrate damage and kill one target at a time. The warrior is a centerpiece of combat in pvp.

As a solo artist, well..

-Try running to the back of your opponents army during a sizeable engagement.

Then you get to own the infamous hunter, while his pet is on some other target.

Especially when the guy getting hit by the hunter sees what you did and helps you with the kill.

-Try getting the mage while he's busy, a few stuns and shield bashes when he doesnt see you coming is a death sentence.

Miscellanious:

-Try running through their "main body" on your mount. Wars can pull this off!

-Or taunting a "tactician" group with emote taunts.

This as i have seen can lure a pally out solo(cuz they think they are better than wars).. then its ownage time.

-Everyone forgets you have backup sometimes.

If you think your losing in combat... you have a long lifespan as a warrior.

start walking backwards,

lure the attacker, in their bloodlust state, to the ranks of your army.

Boom you win, and get to laugh at their emotional folly.

^ This is one I loooooove to do!!!

well ive said my piece
been playing long enuff lvl 70 prot war

Hope my information is useful :)

Go warriors!! you are pvp masters!! dont doubt what your potential is!!
