What best combinations for Mage Talent Follow

#1 Apr 13 2007 at 4:05 PM Rating: Decent
Hi
I’m LVL 57 and I’m looking for talent leaning advice.
Toady all my talent points are only on fire (none of my telnet points are on frost or Arc).
I basically very happy with this but I can see that a lot of players are trying combinations.

What is recommending, should I stay with my current fire talent or should I split these talents across fire , Frost and Arc.?
What is the best combinations to create a powerful Mage?

please assist there are a lot of combinations and Im looking for the ONE.

There is no "ultimate mage build" that is good for everything. Some builds will be better than others in a particular area; be it PvE or PvP. Even in PvE vs PvP, there are builds that excel in certain sub-categories; e.g. Heroic instances, Raids, Battleground PvP, Arena PvP, etc.

There is a ton of posts about talent specs on this forum. Take some time and look over them.

I suggest looking at the Talent Progression Guide from the Index of Mage Guides. For PvP, there is also an Arena PvP talent guide.

If you are looking for a level 70 build here are some Frost-based suggestions:

18/0/43 Frost/Arcane PvE (Frostbite/Shatter version)

18/0/43 Frost/Arcane PvE (Winter's Chill version)

17/0/44 Water Elemental PvP

33/0/28 AP Frost PvP

Can you please give me PvE build for fire?
Also what build will give me the best point per second, is fire build or frost build?

Now wouldn't that just bite if we were reduced to having only one talent build worth a damn instead of just two? (j/k you arcaners out there!)

This is the Elemental Build I was using for a while for both PvE and PvP.

Main tactic was to scorch until close, frost nova and then fireball+fireblast for 50% increased crit and either kite the ignite ticks until death + wand or a blastwave/CoC to finish them.

PvP wise. With the exception of DB You've nearly all the instant cast mage spells at your dispoable with reasonable effects/bonuses. Open up on melee with rank 1 frostbolt for the chill and possible frostbite then scorch for the damage increase, throwing out an ice lance or fireblast on the chance of a frostbite. Frost nova inclose then either fireblast or blastwave/CoC if on cooldown followed by a blink, rank 1 frostbolt and so on.

If you want to pop all your cooldowns go for combusion -> Trinket -> frost nova -> fireblast -> cold snap -> frost nova -> blast wave -> CoC -> AE repeatedly. Haven't done it myself in a while but should manage a reasonable amount of burst damage with the added benefit of an ice block or two between if things get hairy, i.e dotted and feared.

Mana can be an issue, for faster PvE grinding go for mage armour, PvP wise go for either ice for frostbite or molten for impact.

The main idea of the build is for fire crit ignite damage via instant casts and frost as support and suvival.

Edit: the blizzard talent is for those moments when you lack time for a rank 1 frost bolt cast, or to slow a pack of horde/alliance from supporting their flag runner. 350 mana for a rank 1 blizzard isn't a bad trade off for 4-5 40% speed reduced (perm frost included) possible frost bitten horde/alliance.

10/48/3 is probably one of the best fire builds outside the 40/21/0 build (for lower +damage equipment). I'm also fond of a 34/27/0 build.

*edit: removed some attitude from my post

Hi
I used both fire and frost build and I must say that the Frost build is much more interesting comparing to fire build.
Also with this build link=http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=Rf0E00cZZVAGsofxobot]18/0/43[/link I was able to kill elite lvl 58 and I’m lvl 59 something that didn’t work for fire.

With a frost build, I long ago had the motto: If I can snare it(and it has no ranged attack), I can kill it naked.

With a fire build, my current motto is:

If I can run as fast as it(faster preferred considering I have runspeed to boots...also can't have ranged attacks) I can kill it. If I can snare or root it...it's my *****.

This is so true, frost gives you many abilities for kiting, or to not get "hit" as much.

Fire is up-front damage, so if you can run faster then the mob, or atleast as fast as it, you will be able to kill it eventually, BUT on the move pretty much.

I can solo lvl 69-70 elites, and am fire, just depends on what happens ;) and the situations you are in.

I love fire but love frost equal. I was like you for longest time only did fire. I hate to say this miss out on alot of fun by not experimenting with frost. Your will be surprize that survivialbe with go up 10 fold and still can do lots of damage, I have when with elemental build http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=kZggMzcczoxZMuGGorxkbo. Ice barrier is must have it the key to the build. I did love combust but if you have shatter the make up for some of what combust less needed. I think you will have fun playing with this build because do like fire.
