i tamed Mangeclaw as soon as i could get there with my Dranae hunter. i love my bear... his name is Creampuff and he has yet to let me down. he eats anything and can really take a beatin. not to mention he is white with cool blue eyes.

he does however stand out like a sore thumb in ashenvale. it seems as long as i maintain the beast tree and make sure he has the very best growl he can, he can even hold aggro so long as i am careful.

i am new to the hunter class and by no means think bears are the best but from when i watched the orginal wow movie (the dwarf with the bear) i have always wanted one. i also have the clutch mother.. named blueberrie just cause shes a bit different. but i may give her up for a cat (solely for prowl) later. my daughter also has the clutchmother, shes ten and named her Bluenanner because she eats bananas. (dont worry, i dont let the ten year old run in pugs... she only plays with me). anyway we have alot of fun together.

live long... be well all

Well, my son is 9 and he has two characters on my account thou. He got a war to 3, and a hunter to 2 lol. He loses interest quite fast. Perhaps if I got a second comp and play with him, it would be different, but then he'd have to fight my wife, who lvd her war to 12 and gave up. But I'm sure things would change if she played with me.

It was partially my fault for telling her to roll a war "cause it was probably simplest job to play". Well, while its not difficult per se and no offense to wars, I played her character for about 20 minutes and gave up. How do they do it?? IDK, fight one/two mobs, eat. Rinse repeat. Ohh noes I got a add, damn 50% chance of dieing. My respect goes to those that can lv a war to 70.

myself I like my pet it is a ravager it does around 80-100 damage and has 4,200 armour at lvl 42 but i am also BM spec. I still think that is pretty good for a 42.

That is an awesome name for the Clutchmother. Much more original than my "Clutchmutha" =)

Heh, named mine Azure.

Poor Azure is sitting in a stable... getting very tired of her stall.

I have Ghost since i was 19 , I have Ghamo'raa since i was 25 ! I was the same lvl when i tamed them and did it alone! Ghost is now invisible (prowl) and no one can take aggro from him ! Ghamo'raa (turtle boss in BFD) is a real tanker never dies! those are the best pets in Instances and not only (cat for dps and turtle for taking lots of hits); ill never give them up! 3rd slot always for learning skills and i do it at the first lvl i can get them so they will be always on top!

Both of them look great and have a place in my strategy!
Its so cool when i scare a horde and i mess with them (eyes of the beast) on my almost completly invisible cat!

Edit : I always lvl both of them !

The problems I have with bears are all Blizzard’s fault. How could they have put such a cool bear in that video and then completely ignore the bears they have in game? The main thing I don’t like about bears is that they seem incapable of closing their mouths. The poor things must become dehydrated very quickly. Blizzard needs to rework their model and give them some more animation. Bears also suffer from a lack of skills, as do many other pets. But as I have several pets that get nothing but bite and growl, I’ve obviously learned to live with it.

Tallstriders make good pets. Their diet is a bit picky, but the enjoyment of watching the big, bad monster get its butt kicked by an overgrown chicken makes up for it. *smiles* Cashara has leveled with her pink tallstrider, Sweetpea, from 11 to 65. The only thing that would make Cashara and Sweetpea more fun to play would be if she could ride a blood elf mount. A female dwarf riding a big purple bird with a pink tallstrider at her side would be soooo much fun.

Well you did ask who wouldn't abandon their pet based on RPG reasons or because you simply like the look of you pet, but I'll chime in.

I wouldn't give up my wolf for two reasons.

1. Being the fact that I love to have my wolf following me around. (translation I think he looks cool)

2. Because he has Furious Howl which is kick butt if you are trying to help your tank. Come on you have to admit that the ability is a warrior or pally's friend. It gives 18-22 extra damage to any friendly targets next hit. (must be within 15y and there is a 10 second time limit I believe)

Anyway I wouldn't give up my wolf because of his look and because of his abilities.

How do I level up my pet so that it changes levels at about the same time as I do.
At the moment, my pet levels up when I am 50% to the next level.

thanks

I refuse to use a boar simply because of the sound it makes when it attacks or gets hit. And because it doesn't have a swim animation. It's just a brick floating through the water.

You can't. Your pet stops gaining exp the moment it catches up with you.

That's about right. It can level up sooner (compared to you) if you don't quest or don't have rest exp.

I'm sure there's better pets, but hesitation can get you killed quick, and I can't help lol when someone see's my Raptor charging in. It's usually the same view........they stop, turn.......ooops, to late. Sure he eats alot, but so does my dog(my real one)! He works for me in the BG. When I'm cruising Cheeta, with the Flag, first sucker on my tail usually gets chewed up! I know I'm partial to him because he's been my first and only pet. Just for future info, why would a boar be better ????

There’s nothing at all wrong with using a raptor for a pet. As can be seen in this thread, many people prefer other pets over a boar. But boars remain a good first pet to recommend to those who do not have a particular type of pet in mind.

Boars are common at low levels on both the alliance and the horde side.

Boars, like bears, are virtual garbage disposals. They will eat almost anything, making them very easy to feed from whatever food drops.

Most, if not all, boars start with charge. Many hunters, myself included, enjoy having their pet rush up to their target as quickly as possible. Boars are the only pets that can do this before level 32 when dash/dive become available. Charge also generates extra agro with its pseudo stun effect. I happen to prefer charge over dash, which share the same cool down, so I don’t even train my boar pets in dash.

Boars now also get gore. Like claw, this is a damage attack without a cool down.

Boars are a good defensive pet. Though they don’t do a lot of base damage (not counting what is added by gore) they have good armor and hit points.

Boars come in several skins, including three that look like they are wearing barding.

And, of course, boars have some of the better idle animations in game. Butt wiggle FTW. *grins*

Incorrect

They only eat fish, meat, and fruit

Somewhat still incorrect...
From Petopia...
Meat, Fish, Fruit, Raw Meat, Raw Fish

That broadens the selection some

Hips, listen to Cala. Cala is very fair and accurate.

FYI I started the "Boar Crusade," so you should take what I say with a grain of salt.

That admitted: to expand on something Cala mentioned, Boars are the ONLY pet w/ ground speed before lvl 32ish*, when some other pets get Dive or Dash (see Petopia @ Brashendeavors.net for more info on which).

Charge is really handy for the time savings alone. Once you try a pig and watch him virtually teleport to the target (it also makes an exciting noise! Whee-factor ftw!), you might find it hard to go back to any other pet. Speeding to target x 1000s of fights = a real time savings. For me it just makes grinding more FUN. I hate waiting. Plus the agro benefits (pig gets AP bonus, the 1 sec immobilize might add to pig's agro) are great -- plus it's nice for slowing people in pvp!

Boars are easy to feed, hold agro well, do okay damage w/ gore (consider one of the focus regen talents, gore eats up focus like claw), are tough (good ac and hp), and are easy to target around (they are small compared to many other pets), etc etc etc. Look, you have a stable. Your raptor is a fine pet and will serve you well. But if you're curious, stable him and try other pets. Loyalty, however - nothing wrong w/ that. The raptor will take you to 70 very nicely. So it's up to you.

* edit, I lie, you can get Beastial Swiftness before 32, but it's only 30% speed increase. That said, if you pvp, b.s. and charge work together. You would have one fast pig w/ those two things working in tandem.

I only have one hunter, at level 47, and he has never tamed a boar. It's not that I hate them, I could see myself taming one on another toon, but I doubt I'll get one for this one. I started out with a white wolf, Greyfang, who I left in the stables at level 26 for my black ravager mastiff, a black worg named Witherhide. I love that pet. He's very nice to look at and I've only seen one or two others with a black wolf. As of now I have no intentions of getting another pet (except for training).

I've also had King B, but now that cobra reflexes can be learned by all pets he's going out. Too many hunters dragging him around.

I don't see what the big deal with boars are. I love my wolf and will not give him up. Also, I'm stubborn and won't get one because everybody else is "Oh, get a boar!" "They have charge!" "No pet is better than a boar!"

Correction. Wolves are just as good. :D

You obviously don't understand the crusade. We're not saying the boar is the best pet, there is no best pet. The boar is the best pet. Although there really is no best pet. It's a zen-WoW thing, get it? Your wolf is the best pet. His cat is the best pet. That boar is the best pet. There is no best pet.

Did I get it right Iponema? lol

Boars do less damage. They're clearly not the best pets. Smiley: rolleyes

And so on. I originally had a boar because, well, boars and dwarves go together in my opinion, like night elves and cats. Having a long and slender kitty as a short and stout dwarf looks kind of odd.

I just need to find a cool-looking boar that won't take forever to grind up in level.

Good luck with that. I find it rather sad that the highest level boar in game is an undead pig. If that was my only choice for a boar pet I’d never have a boar as a pet. They are horrid looking. But then I would never tame the rotting wolves or bears in Felwood either. Now, if undead could be hunters those would be ideal pets.

I think that Farli and Pyewacket look rather cool together. But then who wouldn’t look cool standing next to a swamp jaguar? *smiles* Actually, Brawny does suit him better. The big, white crocalisk has made him a good pet as he leveled. I just wish I could give him dash. Bestial swiftness helps of course, but it just can’t replace dash. *sigh*

I plan on getting a boar, but I HATE the undead look...so it will be a pain to level up and camp Grunter, since he is the highest level Black Boar, and to me, regular black boars look cooler than the armored ones. It could just be because I'm a "tree-hugging hippie" Night Elf, as many of you say *grin*. But I like getting into roleplaying every now and then, and having a more "nature-like" boar just makes me feel like it's more "companionlike" to me =P.

But what would really be cool is if you could tame a hellboar, I mean, windserpents and raptors have "outland versions" now, shouldn't boars?
