HUMARGET!

Seriously though. Never had a boar, never will.

I refuse to give up my Ghost Saber. Nvm that it's still 7 lvls below me. =]

Although I must admit that those boars are pretty cute.........

I'm probably one that will never give up cats for my trolly's pets. It's just personal preference for me since I love cats to begin with and the chance to have a big cat for a pet is too tempting. They're just so cute when they stretch out their claws, it reminds me of my own two furballs as they relax around the house.

But since I'm leveling an alt hunter, I might try a boar just to see how it goes. I'm curious to see what all the talk is about and you never know I just might find a little spot in my heart for the little piglet. :-)

Okay seems everyone has their ideal pet and what is best. I persnally choose never to have a boar, bear, wolf,or cat for a pet. I just hate following everyone else's lead and they are so common. There are many pets available that do equally well as a boar. I myself have had a hyena, wind serpent, raptor, and carrion, spider, ravager, turtle, and bat. My current pet is a gorilla which I love. Someone mentioned screech for aggro control. I feel that the gorilla thunderstomp does just as well for aggro management. Plus,I love to see peoples reaction when my gorilla(grey) is in battle and I click on Bestial Wrath and he swells up to twice his size and turns an angry red. But, I digress, no one is wrong for the pet they choose.any pet can be good or bad it is not the pet it is how you manage your pet and utilize your pet and if you choose one because you like the way it looks...good for you.

Not going to argue with Lord, but I would pull aggro from any of those pets in an instant

Believe it or not, I do not enjoy using boars that much.
What I do is just go for the stats, such as getting a tiger for example.
My current pet is the easy to get Bhag'thera from STV.
When i hit lvl 43 I will move on to King Bangalash, who i do believe hits faster.
With prowl and my per, intimidation, bestial wrath, claw, and dash, I do enjoy my pet a lot.

Do i like my pet a lot and form bonds?
Yes i do, that is why i call everyone of my pets Alucard after my first pet, a ghost saber.

Because of my extremely low damage output, I was forced to change specs back to Marks ='(

Call me unoriganal but without asking anyone or saying anything I tamed a boar. (not because of the crusade)

I've chosen my pets based purely on looks, and so far I'm happy with them. I'm not too crazy about any of the boar skins currently out there, though the armored dark boar from Razorfen Kraul looks sort of cool.

My tauren hunter currently has two pets. The first I tamed was a plain old worg from Silverpine (Bazaal), and the other is that white lion--I can't remember how to spell its name--from that horde quest in the Barrens where you blow the horn to summon him (renamed Endumozze).

When I get up in the mid-30s, I'm thinking about trying to snare one of those red hyenas from the Scarlet Monastery, too.

well, to keep my story short, as a BE, i trained a cat, named Agamemnon, then at 18 i traveled to the draeni islands and trained that black ravager, which is about to be nerfed :( but i've grown to love the ravager. as a MM hunter, stats on a pet dont really matter to me. people suggest boars, but ravagers are so COOL. since i had to retrain a ravager, because the black one is gonna get nerfed, i renamed the new one in memory of the old: Fluffy. adequate eh? they are so fluffy.

Personally I like Ghost Saber for my pet, just for his looks over any other cat. I'm a cat fan and most likely always will be. If I feel like leveling 2 pets I do usually pick up a Boar, but on a new hunter I've been playing with a scorpid just for kicks and I find it works fairly well, although it's easy to take aggro from it. Since he's horde on a PVP server I'll probally wait until 25 or so to go get my Ghost Saber, but I will get him at some point.

Like some of you already have, I also like to tame an owl with the avian warhawk skin. I still have to run another Sektekk Halls again..

Then I saw there was also a level 62 version of it just down Sylvanaar. Although it's a npc pet, beast lore told me it was tameable. But actually it wasn't and you will get the error: Creature already under control. So I contacted a GM about it. He told me that it will be looked into (!), and probably be fixed next patch/hotfix. But I'm guessing, that the fix will just be a fix in Beast Lore, saying it can't be tamed :S. So, still Sektekk Halls afterall.

I tamed a boar once - back around level 10, as my first pet - but I only ended up keeping for, maybe, two hours.

Outside of the world of pigs, I've also had (at one point or another) a crab, crocolisk, wolf, raptor, turtle, gorilla and owl. Most of these also only lasted a few days. The raptor was Takk and I held onto him until my mid-forties.

As cute looking and convenient to feed as boars are, I just have no real interest in having fun. I prefer wilder and less domestic style animals for my little dwarf.

Screech has also been a great aggro skill. My pet's growl can be slightly low, given my level, but I can still pound the hell out of mobs without coming close to the risk of pulling aggro over to me.

I just love playing hunters. My main is only lvl 51, but it seems every new server I play, I start a hunter..and shortly thereafter I tame a boar. I don't care how they look, just love the little "tanks". I leveled past RFK or RFD (not sure which) that has the mottled, chewed up boar, but I think I'm gonna head back there and go get one to level him up.

I do have cat, and you can't beat dash and prowl, but I love the boar!

If there was any kind of white boar, I would consider taming it. I have a weird thing about only taming white pets (the all-white winterspring cats, the polar bears, the non-caster white winderspents). They match my character's hair and mount.

Also check out the two headed white and black bird Outland.

Trachela (65, Terrokar Forest)

I plan to try a flying pet again when Farli reaches that level. It would go with his albino crocalisk. *smiles*

oh no, dont tame trachela.
i want to stay original =P and so far, i havent met anther hunter with her ^^

And i would never give her up, or my black wolf.... maybe my windserpent, but only to tame it again because it was awesome to tame a son of hakkar.

I’m having fun with my latest hunter, Vanyal, and his orange cat Sunspark. But I find that I am also looking forward to leveling what was supposed to be my bank alt hunter. He’s a level 20 blood elf with a black boar name Norbert. I guess I miss playing with a boar. Thankfully I can do both. *smiles*

At this rate I’m not sure when I’ll make it back to the alliance side to play Cashara again. But at some point I’m sure I’ll be drawn back to that big old pink bird. Hopefully I’ll get Vanyal into Outland before then.

While any pet will do ya, rather like any kind of happy meal, boars come with extra fries.

If you want the challenge of taming Broken Tooth, then by all means go for it. But since the attack speed normalization he isn’t any better or worse than any other cat in game. And you can get a cat that looks just the same at level 3 in Mulgore or level 23 in Hillsbrad Foothills. You can check Petopia for other cats with that same skin.

I was planning on getting him for the 1.0 attack speed, whats this attack speed normalization? does he not have 1.0 any more? i know the rake was taken up to 2.0 which kinda dampened my plans

All pets in a somewhat recent patch were normalized to a 2.0 attack speed. The one exception being King Bang in STV, who is "bugged" and comes with a passive ability increasing attack speed slightly. An ability that would be lost if you ever retrained him after taming.

All pets now have an attack speed of 2.0. There are a couple of talents in the Beast Mastery tree that will increase your pet’s attack speed. So if you go that rout you can have any pet with a faster attack speed.

There is a bugged pet in game with a faster attack speed. From what I’ve read, King Bangalash (43 Elite) in Stranglethorn Vale has a passive ability when tamed that gives it a faster attack speed but the same DPS as other cats. This ability will vanish if you ever retrain the cat. That as much as anything tells me that it’s a bug and that Blizzard will one day fix it. So should you tame King Bangalash for his faster attack speed don’t be surprised when he one day loses it.

Edit:
Dohh, I got distracted here at work and someone beat me to it.

It's personal preference according to your play style man. That's what everyone is saying. Many argue the boar, but it's just a personal choice for them. I will admit to having a boar in my stable, but that's where he stays, except for quick outages to keep him levelled up. My main pet is a cat (not King B, too many of those out there), and I wouldn't venture into anything serious without him...

Windserpents, bears, warpstalkers... every pet has its ups and downs. Perhaps you should go check out PETOPIA, where they break down pets, dividing them into categories such as offensive, defensive and all-around styles.

I want to get the Armored Boar from SFK, but I refuse to give up my current pet..... which just happen to be...well....Stinky, my black boar. I have kinda bonded with the little bugger, hes saved me so many times that I cant even count them anymore, and I'm only lv 27 lol.

Like I remember when I was questing in Silverpine and everyones best friend jumps out at me while I'm already fighting two other things. Of course I speak of Son of Arugal. So I send stinky in, he gets him off me, I run for my *** and I try in vain to tell Stinky to follow me. I survive, he does not. I revive him, feed him, and what does the little crazy pig do??? He runs after Son of Arugal(I guess he was pissed at him and wanted round 2 lol) who was at least 50 yards away. I had to yell at him and scold him so he could come back the crazy lil *******. Oink!

Also, that must have been a bug correct?? I didnt have aggro nor did he, and as soon as I revived him he went after him, mind you he was very very far away, I found it hilarious, but most definitely a bug??

I went the role-play rout on one of my hunters. I tamed a black boar at level 10 and named him Mojo. Later I tamed the black armored boar and also named him Mojo. So what “really” happened was that my hunter took Mojo in and had him fitted for barding. Honest.

I currently have a level 20 bank alt hunter with a black boar named Norbert. I’m sure I’ll eventually level him up. If so I don’t plan to get barding for him. I’ve gone the armored pig rout. I’m sure Norbert will do just fine without it.

That does sound odd. If you had agro I could see him doing that. Or if you had him set to aggressive and the mob was close enough he would have gone after him on his own. Otherwise, very odd indeed.
