Seal of the Crusader and Retribution AuraFollow

#1 Oct 25 2006 at 2:56 AM Rating: Decent
Hi,

I've only been playing WoW for about 4 months and my first char is a paladin. The one thing I can't seem to understand is this:

If you unleash Seal of the Crusader on mob then they should take additional holy damage (like from Seal of Righteousness for example.)
If you have Retribution Aura on then the mob should take (currently for my level 28) 8 holy damage every him they melee you.

My question is why if the mob has been judged my SoC do they not take EXTRA holy damage (i.e. for my level 28, say 10 or 11 holy damage / hit) when they melee attack you when you have Retribution Aura on?

Thanks

Because it was probably considered too powerful. :)

The damage from Ret Aura doesn't register for me as Holy damage in the combat log anyway. And those little numbers that come up above the target's head? Yea, they are white for Ret Aura, not yellow ... Wierd.

Yeah, it doesn't work with Retribution Aura. Why? I dunno. Maybe it's because Judgement of the Crusader increases holy damage that you deal to the mob and technically the mob is dealing the damage to themselves by hitting you. It seems like a stretch and a loophole, but that's the reason I could see Bliz coming up with. That's the same reason why I think Ret Aura doesn't increase with Vengeance either.

Well, it's kind of obscure, but basically when you have an effect that increases damage by "up to XXX", then how much of a bonus you actually get depends on how long the spell took to cast, or sometimes on how long the spell lasts. Since Retribution Aura is a permanent passive effect, they basically say it gets zero bonus.
