I'm looking for some information on getting a turtle pet.
I'm a level 27 Hunter. I'm on a PVE server so faction issues aren't really a problem.
Are there any turtle pets around my level range? If so, where can I find them? In all my hunting I have yet to see one.
What is a turtle's diet?
Are they higher hp/ac than a croc (currently the highest I have found)?

go to hillsbrad foothills in the eastern kingdoms...all along the river next to Southshore you'll find turtles...you should be able to manage taming one of those at your level.

Nope! Sorry those turtles are levels 30 and 31. I just got one the other day. I love him to death.
He has very similar stats to your croc, as they are in the same class of pets. (High Armor)
I'd probably try for one of the turtles in Blackfathom Deeps, or wait 3 levels.
Check this out:
Turtles eat fruit and fungus. So basically you'll be buying his food from a fruit vendor. Grab a couple stacks before you get him. My first one ran away in Ironforge.

you could get one of you go through the Blackfathom deep instance dungeon (they are about lvl 25 and are elite). you will need a group though who wont mind the fact that you dont have a pet... oh and believe me they are not hard to find at all you have to pass them to get to the end of the place.
I got my turtle in the blackfathom deeps, I was very lucky when I went there because these two really nice guys helped me all the way into the instance where that elite turtle is, I was only level 25 at the time I think and charmed a level 24 one (I do that just because if they gain exp and level you can teach them growl quicker)
With Donatello I can easily kill level 37 mobs at level 33, he tanks really well. Plus its fun having a unique pet, not a lot of people on my server have turtles and I'm also getting asked where to get one. I'm going to tame a mistvale gorrilla and compare but I really like the high armor pets since I do a lot of damage with my gun as it is.
There's some lower level turtles 16-18 in the barrens if you want to go there to get one. Though if you're above level 20 I would reccommend it since they will be so far behind you in level and it would take a while get them to catch up.
