Before level 20 I used a 2handed sword. Nice damage output but I rarely used it, as I prefer to stay at range. At 20 I switched to dual wield for 2 reasons, more chances to hit (noticed that even with high agil I missed a lot with the 2hander) and stats and chances are you can find 2 single handed weapons that will provide higher bonuses than a single weapon.

A lot of it depends on how you play as well. If your like me and just shoot, then chances are youll be like me, level 30 with somewhat under-par melee weapons that only give stats as a bonus.

If you like to melee then I think I would still recomend dual wield. There is an innate 25% chance to miss using dual wield, but on average you still hit more than with a 2hander (I do anyways). At least in my case and at my level mobs tend to beat me to a pulp if I melee in anything other than to finish off the mob.

Hope that helps a lil bit.

I used 2hd sword before 20, then switched to 2hd Axe and for a while its been ok, but i'm kinda getting bored with it. The first chance i get, i'll probably go to dual wielding axes. Yeah, the 2hd axe gives +7 STR and +7 AGI and it hits for 90 dmg @lvl 26, but when i miss, it takes forever to get another hit in and my poor bear is getting mauled being the only DD within a 10sec period.

I think either 2hd sword or DW axes is the best choice for how i play, but like the dude above me, i prefer to stay at a distance a pop shots off while my pet tanks. I'll honestly say that you're better off just trying things out to see what fits your play style. When you'rte pet starts dying alot, you'll know its time to switch your strategy or equipment, but remember, HAVE FUN!!!!!! and play the game the you want to. ^^

dual wield axes all the way...looks sooooo awesome. Add a couple sommersaults (you can still swing while jumping) and you'll have fun meleeing all day long. Fun for the whole family. Stats are good too.

Two hand is better than dual wield. You have increased missing rate with dual wield. Also, the stat gains from two hand are much greater than those from dual wield. Certain Lvl 50+ green weapons add 16agility 16stamina. Highest I've seen on single or main hand weapon is +6 on each.

I think it depends on what stats you can get out of the item. I could have better dps polearms or 2 handers, but the 21 sta on mine is a nice perk. I really don't care much about the miss rate because frankly, I rarely meelee anything, and if I do, I'm probably either finishing something off or in deep trouble. If I find one handers that have better stats on them I'll use em.

I'm probab just gonna switch it up every so often depending on what i find to be useful and when i get to around 60, have several weapons i can switch off on depending on my mood. lol

Monday is Polearm Day! YAAAY!
Tuesday is 2 handed axe day! YAAAAY!
Wednesday is Dual Weild Swords Day! YAAAAAAY!

LOL. gotta love a game that won't penalize you for making fruity choices like this.

I use what I like the looks of. For instance I am still using my Gargoyle's Bite with +5 damage enchantment because of the Str/armor bonus/dmg and because it looks hella kewl while glowing blue. I have not seen any one-handed weapons stand up to the stats of a two-hander of same quality (i.e. common, rare, epic)post level 30. For the melee weapon it really comes down to fashion since our overall goal in life is ranged dmg. You can do both, but no one can deny our ranged capabilities are more effective than our melee.

This suggestion costs more but i think it has worked out well for me in the long run: learn how to use ALL weapons. Then, if something nice drops you can use it. It just gives you more flexability. Don't just concentrate on axes or swords. i've seen some very nice daggers drop that would be great to dual wield. Plus, it seems certain types of weapons are better at certain levels. At one level a 2 handed sword might be the best weapon. 3 levels later you might find a nice sword and dagger to dual wield. I just like keeping my options open.

On a side note though, I personally don't dual wield often. I find that I seem to miss more often with 2 weapons than one. Right now I'm using a polearm that poisons the mob for really nice DOT. Add that to a trap and sting and I have a lot of DOT going. Plus, it's a blue weapon and hits for almost 32 dps and has a high durability. I'll use that until something better comes along, but I'm not married to one type of weapon.

I've trained most weapons up to around 130, with small exceptions like polearm and fist weapons. When I hit lvl 40 i changed from my two axes to the bonebiter,a 2 handed axe. So far they are both produce the same result, but the two axes got more crit. But with bonebiter when you get crit its huge

i use a slow, high dmg main hand sword, and a fast axe in other hand.

Used to use dagger in offhand, but found an axe thatll disarm on occasion.

I find i only ever go into melee for a raptor strike (mongoose if it lights up while im in there), wingclip and then scattershot, then im out to range again.

im inclined to think funny bonuses like 5% chance to disarm beats +5 to agility any day or an extra 5dps.i keep boots of +40% speed for 10sec(pretend aspect of cheetah to fool people) and girdle of healing 225-300hp(works well in a duel against pally after using bandage and potion) for this reason too.

having a fast and slow weapon while probably not the best answer, i sometimes get nice crits on melee 200dmg etc, whereas my fast weapon is always landing consistent chances to disarm.

thats only if i can be bothered though, i usually just seperate so that i have 1 mob on me and 2 on the bear. ignore the target attacking me an kill the one the bears attacking. feigning death to swap the mob on me to the bear afterwards.

wouldnt say my views are any sort of answer to what is actually better, but i like to think they give me the edge.
