Fighting crocs three levels up :)Follow

I'm doing the Apprentice quest in Wetlands, kill six Giant Wetlands Crocolisks. I'm 23, fluffy is 22 w growl 3 only, and the Giant Crocs are either 25 or 26. I have very moderate to low gear -- just whatever random quests i've picked up here and there.

My standard "Quick-kill" technique is to set a fire trap, open with Concussion Shot and autofire, back up, sic kitty on 'im so she hits him the second he hits the trap, switch to serpent sting, repeat serpent and concussion as they wear off, and finish with arcane or melee wing-clip and raptor-strike if fluffy loses aggro. She usually doesn't.

So, this works great on the L25 crocs. We can finish up about half health and/or half mana, and I don't have to mend pet more than once.

Not a prayer on the L26 ones. They come right for me and I'm in melee mode right away. Can't gobble enough health potions due to cool off to survive it.

I was thinking of setting an ice trap, firing ONE concussion shot (i.e., turning off autofire immediately -- and that will require changing my hotbar setup since i don't have a slot for autofire :( letting kitty growl at the croc while he's in the ice trap, and see if that works.

Open with Fire Trap....Ice Trap only stops them until they take damage it is for aggro control mostly. Fire trap does lots of damage.

Then Concussion, and then Sting to get DoT going, let pet gain aggro while you fire normal and then bust out with Arcane and refresh sting/arcane as you need to. The real trick is to get a tanking pet close to your level so aggro isn't a problem. Cats are great against casters (hit fast) but don't take hits as well as say a Bear or Croc against other heavy armor types. Go get Ol' Sooty from Loch Modan and train him up a little....you will not be sorry. Oh and btw see if you can get a priest to shield you right before you hit tame. It works wonders....

And in case you haven't read it elsewhere...check out this list for pets with abilities...

Ahh, excellent advice there on Ol' Sooty. I was looking for a 20-ish bear and only found some in Hatesbadmumble Foothills (horde area northwest of Alterac mountains, which latter is instant death for me :)
