hi guys
just wondering what is the point of hellfire...
i got it a few lvls ago and only used it once (in a city) just to see what it looked like..
as i see it.. it's just a fast way to suicide
inflicting constant dmg to yourself and other enemies.
if you were getting doubled or even tripled.. would you use this?
Rain of fire is pretty much the same except it doesn't inflict dmg to the caster..
has anyone found a good use for this?
thanks in advance for the replies ^^

Hellfire is incredible in situations where you are part of a group and get jacked by 3 or more mobs, especially if you have siphon life and even moreso with a healer in the party. I mainly use it to mow down crowds in dungeons when a shaman/priest is doing backup. For me, it usually goes something like this.

1. <Warrior> OMFG BAD PULL GOT 5 RUNRUNRUN!
<Me> Nope, more behind us, pull them all together.
2. Cast siphon life on a target, drop a few CoAs while mobs are on warrior. Healer covers warrior with love if we have one in the group.
3. Cast Hellfire. Watch mobs take 1200+ damage. If lucky enough to have a healer, I come out at nearly full life.
4. Suck down Healthstone or get a heal.
5. Drop Rain of Fire or Hellfire again if need be. If most mobs died from CoA/Hellfire combo, just use drain life.
6. /cackle

The trick with Hellfire is that you really need siphon life to make it viable, because the healer needs to keep the tank alive until you have all the aggro. With a healer in the party hellfire is just incredible, because it allows the group to be reckless and stupid and still come out ahead.

Hmm sounds nice! but I dont think it would always work say you are in Gnomgeranain or what ever its called the robotic elite dungion near Iron Forge, if sombody pulls 5 of those mechanical sentrys even a pld or warrior with full hp will die in no time and no amount of healing will save them, now say you pull the argo from the spell how do you think your gonna stand up with cloth armor¿? not to mention you would probably only take 1/5 there health with the full effect of the spell ^^; but that place is an evil place with evil things in it esp the boss he is really evil. Maybe it would work good in pvp if the damage is that high? And I wonder how that doom spell would work in pvp that you get at lvl 60 its like 3200 dmg or something after 60 seconds, sad part of that is a mage can cast 2 spells in 7 seconds and do the same damage.

Hellfire is great! Ofcourse the spell is situational. One of the greatest ways to use it is to summon VW and use his Sacrifice ability. This will give you a temporary dmg absorb.

ahhh i never thought of that.. great idea ^^
ok well i've tried hellfire a few times ( and didnt die ) :D
its good to have some healing potions and a healthstone to help get your hp back up (if you have no main healer)
and the way i have my talent tree set out i wont get siphon life til about lvl 41 .. so hellfire should get better then ^^
thanks for the ideas guys

Hellfire also works really well with the voidwalker using suffering. When we pull 4 or 5 elites, I usually have the walker wade in and use suffering first to draw all aggro to him, our warrior will take on of them, then the rogue and mage will assist on that one. I will CoW on the others and then drop a hellfire. By the time they begin to move on me, the walker is almost dead, so I sacrifice him in mid-cast, finish off hellfire and usually the mobs are all around 60% life by then. Use a fel domination, get an instant cast pet (lots of demonology specs). After that, immediately sacrifice that walker and cast hellfire again. 4-5 elites all wiped within a minute and I haven't needed a drop of healing.

Soul Link talent. Transfers half of the damage you take to your pet.

Instead of nuking yourself for 140 per tick, you're now doing 70. Sure, you own aggro using hellfire, but with Soul Link spam it twice, eat a potion and/or healthstone...everything is dead (hopefully) and you never needed a healer.

Pretty compelling reason to go demonology, I'd say.

Sacrifice works well too.

But if you don't have your VW out, I'd think twice about Hellfire unless all mobs are nearly dead.

The spell is simply uneeded. If you cannot manage to deal enough damage with other spells you should be dead anyway. Rain of Fire, Searing Pain, Immolate, Corruption, Curse of Agony, and Shadow Bolt are plenty.

Hellfire's an incredibly usefull spell. You can take out huge groups of enemies with it fast. If u sacrefice your VW first you can use this spell for some time befor actually taking damage.

Rain Of Fire is a useless spell. with a tiny bit of channeling dmg and an outrgeous mana cost for it.

Very situational .. but with a healthstone, health potion, VW sacrifice, spellstone and maybe a priest, Hellfire is very powerful. Remember rank 1 hellfire is 82dmg per SECOND. Want to confused a low lvl enemy group (alliance). With my 46 warlock, I jumped into a lvl ~25 group with an invis potion and hellfired them. 1 lived. . . until lifedrained him

Hellfire is the highest dps aoe in the game.

A group of war/warlock/mage/priest/shaman(or pld) can go through instances so quick. Why bother with polymorph & seduction when yuou can pull all the mobs and kill them in a fraction of the time?

If the mage uses the arcane aoe, rounds up the mobs, then the warlock can go in and hellfire without grabbing aggro (no interruptions on bellfire), with dual aoes decimating the mobs.

I did a BRD instance run this evening.. pretty much every pull required use of hellfire in some form.
