I cannot figure out how to get to westfall from Menethil Harbor. I am continually dying along the way. Somebody help

The only real tough part is the Wetlands just outside of Menethil Harbor. I'd recommend not trying until a minimum of 10 or 12, though even then the Wetland creatures can kill you easily.
Follow the road at all times, go straight East and turn South near the end of the map (follow road). This'll take you to the Dwarven lands (Loch Modan, I believe), where if you're level 10 or 12 you'll have no problem from here on. Go South to the bottom of the map, and follow the signs (turns Westish) to reach Dun Moragh and eventually hit Ironforge.
In Ironforge, take the tram from Tinkertown to Stormwind, and from Stormwind go South to Goldshire and then West along the road to reach Westfall.
I'd recommend grabbing the Gryphons in Menethil Harbor, Thelsamar (in Loch Modan), Ironforge, Stormwind, and Westfall. Those'll make the trip much quicker for the next times.

I cannot find any exit out of the wetlands to the south. I travel east along the road until I get to the crossroads just before Dragonmaw Valley and I turn south. The end of this road just leads to a huge Gnoll area will no place to exit as the falls show as unpassable? This is ridiculous!

You're actually on the right track. You need to push past that gnoll area into the next "tunnel" out to the dwarven area.
As an aside, those gnolls are a later quest (around lvl 20) that you pick up from the dwarven area to the south.

yeah, just a matter of following the road. when you come to a crossroads most of them are marked with a sign that will tell you which way to go.
