What equipment to have??Follow

#1 Dec 06 2004 at 12:43 PM Rating: Decent
I keep forgetting which is better for a priest to have either stamina, spirit, or intellegence. I keep getting new equipment from drops and I am not sure as to what stats to look for. My main goal as a priest is to build up my mana pool so what equipment stats should i be looking to upgrade to increase my mana.
Thank you,

I like to keep an eye on my spirit & intellegence.

But...here is a list of attributes:

Strength (STR)
# Increases your attack power with melee weapons.
# Increases the amount of damage you can block with a shield.
Strength does not affect critical hit chances at all. Strength does not improve your chance to block, but rather the amount blocked when you succeed. This amount is determined in part by Strength (and the other part by your shield).

Agility (AGI)
# Increases your attack power with ranged weapons.
# Increases your armor.
# Increases your chance to score a critical hit with a weapon.
# Increases your chance to dodge attacks.
# Rogues gain a much stronger bonus to dodge from agility than other classes.
# Hunter & Rogue: Increases your attack power with melee weapons.

Stamina (STA)
# Increases Health points.

Intellect (INT)
# Increases the rate at which you learn weapon skills.
# Increases your Mana points.
# Increases your chance to score a critical hit with spells.

Spirit (SPT)
# Increases health and mana regeneration. Spirit affects all characters' mana and hit point regeneration rates in and out of combat.

Weapons
Attack (AR) - Attack Rating.
Power (AP) - Attack Power.
Damage (DMG) - Weapon Damage.

Armor
Defense (AC) - Defense Rating.
Armor - Physical Damage Reduction.

I'm finding a need to be well rounded a bit. You just can not think you will not get hit as a priest.

At level 30 i have a sick 380 armor. Inner fire takes that up to 860 thankfully, don't forget to use this.

Since i take so much of a beating, I am considering stamina important. How important? It depends.

EDIT: Coming back and altering my posts. Level 40 as of this post. I find INT to be the most crucial stat. The difference it makes is incredible. I feel like i should be out of mana, but i still have 1000mps. No amount of spirit regen can beat that.

Stamina is great too. Now i have 2000 hp instead of 1500. I can survive a lot longer. (still die a lot though ; ; )

So, I am going to keep my eye out for more stamina gear though. It's important. The only time you shine as a priest is when the party has more mobs than we should be able to handle. When that happens you will always have one or two mobs whacking away at you. Don't waste too many heals on yourself, or even worse, die.

And for gods sake, don't forget Inner fire.

I rate int the highest because of both mana pool and crit % on heals. After that I tend to take stamina over spirit. Spirit is good but as far as items go int + spirit items seem a lot more common, and on top of that just by being a priest it seems our spirit is innately high. Atleast it seems so on my undead priest. Sometimes I'll switch to spirit over int if I'm soloing or if I'm regaining mana while drinking in an instanced (i.e. I open up my backback and right click some high spirit items like my Mordresh's Skull to help with the mana regen)

Don't discount stamina, in higher level areas you WILL draw aggro even with fade. I have 5/5 in subtetly and use fade often but I still get some aggro from time to time and when the mobs are hitting that hard that stamina is much needed. My stamina is pretty low without my buff and I have some decent + stamina items I think (I think Eagle is best type of armor for priest with Owl a close second) but it's still only around 90 stamina I think. It's in my profile but I'm lazy. With the buff it jumps up over 130 and even then with our lack of defense we drop pretty fast if we draw too much aggro so every extra hit I can sustain while either a war/pet can aggro off of me, I can heal myself, or have for time for a fade refresh is very important.

But whether you think Sta is as important as Spi or whatever your feelings are your choice. I'd definately recommend INT being any priests priority with STA and SPI being either second of third priorities though.

I do mostly int but also some spi. I have 6k mana unbuffed at level 60, and regen 84 mana per tick.

Not true, your tank just sucks at holding aggro. I group with a tank who is good at holding aggro, I rarely have to use fade, because if I do get aggro they easily peel it off of me.

Stamina, Intelligence, Spirit. In order from leaste to most important... right now i have a shadow priest at lvl 28 and his spirit is at about 123, intelligence 97... dont remember stamina abou 50 though. you get fortitude so worry more about the other two... i like spirit.. i regen well and its VERY important in elite instances. trust me on this one.

I just wanted to follow up on this post, now that my opinion has changed.

Level 40 as of this post. I find INT to be the most crucial stat. The difference it makes is incredible. I feel like i should be out of mana, but i still have 1000mps. No amount of spirit regen can beat that.

A larger mana pool is so underrated for priests. Combined with mana conservation due to burst healing and mana regenning, (5 second rule, inquire within) Turns you from that keep everyone from dying priest into that keep everyone at full priest. I was amazed at the results when i switched from SPR gear to INT gear

Stamina is great too. I recently switched 3 or 4 items to boost this. Now i have 2000 hp instead of 1500. I can survive a lot longer.

(still die a lot though ; ; )

What about soloing? INT, STA, STR. Spirit is useless for soloing. If you are regenning mana in combat you really aren't killing mobs fast enough to make it worth your while. (5 second rule)

I regen mana all the time soloing, but only for a link or add. It's a painful wait. Solution? Get more mana! Drink your drinks!

Well, my priest is only 19 at the moment but after looking through all attainable gear for her up to 55, I'm choosing to prioritize like this:

1) INT
2) STA
3) everything else

My reasoning is simple. I don't have to worry about Spirit because it's tacked on to seemingly every piece of decent gear from say, level 26 on up. Therefore, I don't have to actively seek it out (and possibly sacrifice a better/more useful stat like stamina). I use the same strategy on my Mage as well. Survivability is a paramount concern only surpassed by mana pool. When some Defias Overseer or somebody comes over to smack me while fade is recharging, I'd prefer to be able to take the blow without wilting or flinching. Besides that, all the tests on the effect of Spirit (look here for one of them) have led me to believe it's not worth worrying about, honestly. Cost:benefit ratio is WAY off.

Just my view though.
