I'm a level 6 Troll, and have been trying to figure out how to use backstab effectively. I paired it with stealth, but it's a pain to go the spells/ablities book and choose from there when I need to use it because the window takes up half the screen. Is it normal for all your umm 1,2,3,4,5,6... to disappear when using stealth?

You try using your hotkey bar? When you enter stealth, a brand new bar appears, and you can put backstab in there effectively. As for your combo points, they only last per monster, so if you are fighting 2, and you kill one that has 5 combo points on it, the other one will start off at 0. But a effective way to use backstab is to use Gouge, run behind and let a backstab rip.

Hey backstab is not a stealth move. I wish it was. Actually you can use it in your hotkey and use it with this combo..Sinister Strike then Gouge (stuns the target) then backstab from behind then finish with Eviscerate. Of course for added damage I did Sinister until I have 2 or 3 levels then Gouge to stun and quickly ran behind target and did Back Stab. This worked tremondously, depending how much energy you have you might could pull it off Backstab followed by Eviscerate.

Tip: 1. I found out that even though I was behind mob my back was facing its back but I still got of Backstab.
Tip: 2. Depending on you Gouge (the lvl) you have to move quick for Backstab because the stun doesnt last to long. During early lvls I anticpated that Gouge worked and proceeded to go behind the mob. Usually I was 85% to 90% successful. Hope this helps.

Darkgudda said it right. Also, when you're in a party, make sure you let another character initiate a special move first, and then you can use backstab on it. Gouge is almost useless in a party, so don't worry about using that in one. Just try to build your combo points as much as possible and then unleash the finishing move.

While solo the basic combo seems to be gouge, duck behind, then Backstab. I suggest for new alliance rogues learn cooking ASAP, with your posions quest your get areciepe for a tea that gives you 100 energy instantly. This can be the deciding factor of a bad pull when you need the energy to finish off a mob that you have built your points on. In a group try and move behind the mob with a mail class keeping aggro. Then do your Backstab. Good Luck to you.
