Paladin TalentsFollow

I am curious, what talents do most feel to be worthwhile. I am only lvl 13 at the moment, so I am not sure how much tanking a Paladin will do. It seems that Retribution and Protection will be the way to go, but I dont want to waste my talent points on protection if a paladin will be an unfit tank. Lets hear what others think.

my paladin is level 22 atm, and imho, retribution is junk. A higher level paladin recommended following the protection path up until the protection aura (which is really nice btw), and then filling in the holy abilities. No points in retribution I think. ANyway, I took his advice and (Agh!) spent the money to unlearn my talents and rebuild it that way, it's great.
But then, it may just suit my playing style, so you have to decide for yourself. Whatever you want to do, I recommend planning ahead and having a strategy of what talents you are building towards, otherwise, you end up making some weird decisions in the heat of the moment....
best of luck!

I'm currently only a lvl 11 paladin and didn't fully understand talents until a couple of days ago. I am also at a loss as to what I'm going to choose. I guess I'll just read all of the powers and see which one sounds like the end result best fits me (as mentioned above). Good luck to you folks that are the pioneers who are fleshing out the higher levels. Hopefully you'll share your wisdom. :)

Retribution isn't junk. It's just tailored toward a damage-oriented paladin, much the same way shadow talents are for a damage-based priest. It's less against the grain for a paladin to want to do damage though.

In beta, I went mostly with protection. I liked it better than retribution personally. Holy has a lot of nice support skills though, if you want to focus on casting.

I plan to focus on retribution since as an early Paladin high armor rating is easier to come by then high damage. However at around 40 im planning on rerolling my talents and specifying them exactly how i want them once i get a better feel. At 40, 1 gold isnt that much, expecially since training for mount riding takes 20 and a mount costs 80.

I believe the cost for unlearning talents goes up with each unlearned one...

Well heres the way I c it usually the pallys healing spells are to benifit The persons self or a secondary healer. You dont really need points in Holy to help your healin ability at lvl 60 you will have decent Healin spells anyways so besides the 5 must needed ones i think there is no use for holy tree unless you are going to go pure holy tree and use Holy Spells. I think Holy Shield and Hammer of Justice are a great combo cuz u can alternate using them cuz they have 8sec and 10sec cooldown also the mass defense from protection tree and devotion aura really helps u stay alive.

Thats my view of the Palidan.

They get me by pretty well, one more level and I can start getting points in crit. If you want me to later, I can go deeper into each of the reasons why I have these, but over all, they work rather well.

I didnt do this, but looking back on it I wish I would have gone retribution untill about level 40 to exp really fast then unlearn and go holy/def. I really like the holy line, it makes a pretty good healer and gives you your only ranged attack against normal creatures (Holy Shock). I am only level 40 now, and the holy works for me, but I think once im very high level I might unlearn and pick up more defense and get something like holy shield.

I'm level 36 and ive gone almost all retrobution combined with a 2h sword and as many +agility items as I can get. Currently my agilty is 105 and that combined with my dps 30.2 sword and my 22 points in retrobution talents,(5 in holy for the 70% uninteruptible healing-an absolute must have)I do about 130-150 per hit with criticals of 275-350. I tend to solo a lot so this setup works for me. If I could play with groups more often then I'd probably respec as a holy or protection pally (depending on the role I played most often ie Tank or Healer).

P.S. The reason I go heavy on the Agi bonuses is, they increase both my chance to hit and get criticals. I get on average 1-3 criticals per mob that I fight.
