Warlock Talent System?Follow

Forgive me for being a n00b, but I'm a soon-to-be-ex-FFXI player that has a Human Warlock 300 experience points away from level 10. Up to now I simply bought all of my spells for that level, because that's what I thought I should do; but it appears as if I should probably actually concentrate on an area (demonology, devastation, or affliction). Can someone expound on that for me and give suggestions of what I should do? I'll probably make a whole new character when the game comes out, so I can completely start anew later on. Also, I paid my 10 silver to recieve staff training and cannot FIND a staff anywhere for the life of me! Where can I get one? Thanks for your advice in advance.

And ignore the FFXI sig. ^^

Bah, nevermind I got to 10 and realized that's when you start assigning talents. D'oh! Still would like some new advice though when I start my new Warlock character 11/23.

has an interactive talent tree (come on Allakhazam hehe). I personally am thinking I will spread out my talent points. About 1/3 to each. It is just another way to customize and niche your warlok. If you are going to very very heavily depend on your pet, then you will want to put more into demonology, if you want to increase your effectiveness as an instacast damage dealer then go with destruction, if damage over time and debuff is your primary goal, then load up on the affliction.

I think if you cherry pick the talents, the best from each of the three, then you will have the best well rounded character, but some like to specialize. There are about 10 points worth of talents in each area that everyone should have. They reduce casting time or mana cost or increase damage for that line of spells. I think it would be foolish to miss out on those from any of the 3 lines.

Keep in mind that to train some of the higher talents requires a certain amount of points in that particular area (affliction, daemonology, etc). So, while you can spread your points out (and that's what I was doing in open beta), you might want to think about an particular area to concentrate on just a bit more than the others.

Once I got my voidwalker, I RARELY ever used the imp, so I didn't spend any talent points on anything that would help the imp. I relied heavily on my voidwalker to tank for me, so anything I could learn as far as talents that would help him, I learned. I had a set approach when fighting mobs, I would sic my voidwalker on it, once voidwalker got aggro I would hit mob with immolation, curse of agony and corruption or curse of weakness. I spent my talent points in mostly in the destruction and affliction areas, since these areas seem to be the most damage dealing for me. The grimoires you can buy for your summons help with powering them up.

Rick, in my 11 levels of playing we had extremely similar fighting styles. I guess since my Void will be tanking for me for a while, I'll concentrate on strengthening him with my talent points. Also, I think keeping Affliction up to par the most might work best later on? Just a thought..

i just started as a warlock and i just wanna clarify this, when i level and learn new spells such as lifetap or immolate, is that "assigning skill points" to a certain area like destruction or affliction? so as long as u have gold, u can basically learn as much as you want?

Regarding talents and pets, I think it may be a mistake to neglect the imp. Although voidwalker is the pet of choice for soloing and small 2-3 ppl groups, in a large party where paladins or warriors are available, the imp is a better choice. The imp lays out FAR more damage than voidwalker does and has some nice party buffs and shields to provide. To sum up, voidwalker is a great tank-in-a-can but the imp will be the well rounded party's pet of choice.

i agree the imp is much more dps. the imp is also much easier to see around (every been in a cave group with the voidwalker out? makes life tough for us gnomes). i primarly solo so far so im putting alot of points into demonology. tho i cant complain about stronger healthstones hehe

so, does this mean that the imp is not needed after we get our succubi? i like my little Nagramesh, she's kinda...grown on me, if you will. will her fire shield and bloodpact be enough to justify her use in a party?

Along this last train of thought... what seems more useful in the higher levels? I am thinking we probably get more affliction than any one else... so our DOT spells could really help out? (more than destruction based, since we could have a mage in the party...) (again, I dont kow, I am still verry new)

So I am planning a well rounded style, heavy on the affliction end... has this worked for others so far???

Also, on the succubus (sp?) at lvl 20. What does she do in a nut shell? (besides look really hot, LOL). The IMP does damage, the VW does the tanking... what does she do?
