Shaman Magic Tree: Lightning Bolt or Molten BlastFollow

#1 Jun 13 2004 at 11:25 AM Rating: Decent
What would be the best choise for a Shaman char:
Train extensively in Air magic:
Lightning Bolt, Lightning Shield, Purge etc.
Or in Fire magic:
Molten Blast, Flame Shock etc.

I'd say Air magic, because you get the dmg spells early in game and so you can train better on em. }:'?

Srry, i'd say u didn't get the question :'/

If you get both of em', u'll need alot of skill points. I wanted to know which of em' would be more usefull, actually.

It really depends on preference... I would get fire magic in the beginning... But as soon as you can, i would suggest getting instant cast spells such as earth shock and ice shock. Water magic, from a support type stance is better to have skills in, because of healing waves and such. Ice shock is a great spell, it does high damage (I'm a level 22 shaman, and it deals 100-140 damage instantly, and slows the target for a few seconds by 50%, whereas my lightning bolt deals 100 damage max.) With the current version of the beta, if you are unaware all spells get +10 each level, instead of moving up per time using the spell. Earth shock you get early on, and is good instant cast. But really when it comes down to it, whichever you pick will probably be fine as long as you stick with it.

Its not a matter of skill points to be used on spells. it's a matter of cash! Skill points are used on training on new skills like TradeSkills or various weapons and such. So you can get all the arch types for the sham, you just need the money to pay for the training.

Firstly, Molten Blast is no longer in the game. Not sure when it got removed, but it's not there.

Secondly, you don't have to spec in air magic versus fire magic, etc. You can have them all. In fact, you probably SHOULD have them all to be the best shaman you can be! Every ability that's listed that isn't a talent should be in your ******** All you need is cash.

For example, I can't imagine having to choose amongst the "shock" series of spells. Flame Shock, Earth Shock, and Ice Shock are all great spells. Flame Shock is easily the most efficient of the three, so long as all the DoT effect is used. Ice Shock does heavy damage and slows the target, sure, but it's a mana hog; I reserve it for mobs that try to run, or if I need to "front load" my damage (i.e. can't wait for Flame Shock's DoT). Earth Shock is the least efficient, but against any ability with a cast time it's GOLDEN! That 2-second interrupt doesn't sound like much, but it saves you a ton of health and trouble. You don't even have to use a high-ranked version of it; you get the same interrupt with the first version as with the final version. I typically went with the version 2 levels below the most current-- keeps the mana cost down.

This is just an example. Truthfully, a shaman has to use a lot of spells and abilities to be at his best. That's the fate of a hybrid class. We've got specific counters for specific situations, so we have to have every option open. Pay the extra money to learn the extra ability. It's worth it, trust me.

ChahDresh is right on the money on using them all. For example...totems you can have one of each type out at a time, fire, earth, water, and air.

I found playing around that at range my shaman just was not as up to snuff...no root, one short lived ranged slow...lightning bolt was a pull skill. Instead it was melee + shocks that worked best for me. Chah is sooo right about using a lower level earth shock...saves on mana as Earth shock is pricey and it does more then just interrupt that current spell for 2 seconds, it interrupts the "school" for 2 seconds, so related spells are outta play.

Learn all the skills you again, especially if you group a lot with other shamans...the buff type totems don't stack so its nice of one shaman can drop stoneskin and the other strength of earth or earthbind, etc. You get 3 shamans who can cover all the available totems and its pretty darn cool.
