Hard to say. EQoA is very different from Lords of Everquest.
Lords of Everquest is a "Real-Time Strategy". If he likes Warcraft III or maybe even Starcraft, he might be interested. However, the game has gotten lackluster reviews. It's also greatly based off the PC version of Everquest. There are classes and races in Lords of Everquest he won't recognize. My guess would be he probably wouldn't like it, unless he's specifically saying "Hey, that's what I want for Christmas" I'd probably look for another gift.
Of course, a perfect gift might be Everquest for the PC if he hasn't played that. EQoA is described as 'EQ Lite'. While it's an entertaining game, it's nowhere as deep (or addictive) as Everquest for PC. If you think he might enjoy this, pick up Everquest:Evolution for him. Not only is it cheaper than Lords of Everquest, he'd probably like it more.
