Problem selecting crystals during synthesis! HELP!!Follow

Hi. I must be doing something wrong but I would really appreciate it if someone helps me out.

I have leveled alchemy up to 11. I want to convert crystals into shards. I have read how to do it online but everything is very simple and basic but doesn't work!!

When I am in synthesis mode I select an open box to bring up my inventory. I go to crystals and click on an crystal type. Nothing happens. I can put other items into my material boxes but not crystals or shards. What's up with that?

Please help!

Crystal -> Shard use Fine Sand, which is not sold by NPC anymore since 1.19. You don't put Crystal in the synth material box, you need to put the Fine Sand.
