These are personal notes from when I leveled GS. Keep in mind that the price on the mats do change depending on server and time. I started GS at the official launch date of FFXIV back in 2010. As seen in Yellow Gremlin, there are always bits and pieces of level-able crafts here and there. Mine is more a compilation of the extensive hoard-and-grind style since keeping 200 recipes worth of mats in my inventory does me no justice.
Feel free to add in stuff you noticed and I can probably update this list later.

THINGS TO REMEMBER
** Always do GS crafting leve to speed things up. The leves will allow you to craft things that normally would be too hard even with GS buffs. They pretty much turn out to be double SP 400-500+ and near 2k exp. They are FREE mats, so use it. If you have extra crafting leves left over, then you might want to touch a bit of Blacksmith/Armorsmith

** Sometimes its cheaper to make shards than buy them if you run out. The NPC near the aquarium in limsa sells the maps. Look up Yellow Gremlin site to see which mats make what shards.

** If your a newer player, Always do your battle leves. Sometimes you may not profit enough to go without them. (unless you already have a merchant method going) You could be scrounging for money and shards without the battle leves. Remember the higher you go, the double the cost. If you break even selling on the current synths, you will be in the reds when you buy the next lvl crafting materials. You will need at least some profit in the prior synths to break even in the future mats.

** If you have alot of play time, your secondary class could be Miner (if your patient). Many mats will come from this class and it will help you immensely. You can also choose a melee class that does not require extensive gearing to do the above battle leves or farm other mats to sell and fund your GS.

** If you can get your hands on CHEAP corals, any color, do so. White>Blue>Red is the leveling order. I did not add them in below because they are not as abundant.

Notes: Might be worth it to lv11+ raw lapis lazuli, raw sunstone, raw malachite, raw danburite, raw sphene, raw fluorite. These jewels will be very useful lv35+

10-20
> Brass nugget -you will make crap tons
>> Brass earring (retainer/NPC sell) -move to rings after sp gets lower than 200
>>> Brass ring (retainer/NPC sell)

Start saving your silver ingots from leves
you can use them chockers or other jewelry from here on, also they will be use in a lv40 single mat costing craft.

20-30
> Silver nugget -make craptons
>> Silver arrowheads (NPC/carpenter sell)
>> Silver earring (retainer sell) -move to rings after sp gets lower than 200
>>> Silver ring (retainer sell)

30-33/34
> Silver ring -save money and keep on rings, OR
>> Lapis Lazuli Earring, Sunstone earring, Sphene earring, Malachite earring, Fluorite earring , Danburite earring -these give better SP but you will want to keep the gems to make rings, not earrings. (retainer sell)
>> raw garnet, raw aquamarine, raw Tourmaline, raw Amethyst, raw Heliodor, raw Goshenite.

34-37
> Silver needle (NPC sell) -cost only 1 silver nugget but you will end up NPCing probably more than half of these.
OR
> Lapis Lazuli ring, Sunstone ring, Sphene ring, Malachite ring, Fluorite ring, Danburite ring -costs 2 nuggets and the gems you saved from prior synth. Sells decent on retainers.

38-40
>> Grilling on darksilver ring and the above gemstone rings
Still using tons of silver nuggets, fire shards, and wind shards
>>sphene ring seems to have higher sp rate than malachite ring (maybe its my imagination...)

40-43
> darksilver ring and *gasp* the Silver Chakram (this is where your silver ingot is used)
>> Its also possible to grind on electrum earring but the cost is a waste since you want to start on the electrum type gem rings at 43

43-
> In order of easier ring, start from: Garnet ring > heliodor ring > peridot ring > aquamarine ring , Electrum ring
>> Amethyst ring , Goshenite ring
>>> Nephrite Breastpin

47-50
> All of the 43+ crafts above + starting on Silver Magnifiers (Green)
