I would like this thread to be the conclusion of what to grind on so that everybody can use as guide line.
I ll start with what i know , but if anybody have better suggestion u can post and help us improve better guide.

R1-R5 start with local because success rate on local is still so low.
R5-R15 go with sheep skin to leather then vamp
R16-R17 go with antelope sinew. Because success rate on dodoskin still not so high.
R18-R25 go with dodo skin to leather then vamp
R25-R26 assume u to hve tanning training. Make buf leather only first.
R27-R32 buf vamp from lether u have made.
R32-R33 raptor sinew
R33+ buffalo give low sp now...may be toad leather but still seem too early. Any suggestion?

After the update, I can make Toad leather easy at R33, so I guess I can do this until R40.

On another note, Wolf leather is a suggestion before use buffalo.

Yes very nice and short guide. My biggest problem is that I still don't have near enough guild marks to get Tanning Training (which was first on my list to get). I hear that you sporadically get marks from turning in leves past 20 but I don't think I have yet >.<. I currently have around 2100 guild marks and I think it requires 6K for tanning training.

Well after replying to this thread the last 3-4 leves have been giving me quite a lot of TAN guild points, and I actually should have enough marks to pick up tanning training now. I don't know why it is now that I was able to get marks when it seemed like I couldn't before, but w/e I have them now and I plan to fully use them :D.

What do you do with all the toad leather after you make it? I haven't seen a toad leather vamps recipe in any database so far. Do straps or another recipe give you good sp at your level?

Fleece, a R40 craft using sheepskin, can be done as low as R35 (granted you have tawing training). May or may not have a lot of difficulty with it. All I know is that I saw a R35 lw spammin it the other day.

ive also noticed that they finally added a synth for the blue antelope hide at R31. havent tested it yet but workin on R25 atm.. but finally something to try inbetween buffalo and toad, and if you fight does as much as i do, then this item has become a viable space instead of a waste :)

You can make toadskin vamps, using just one toad leather like the others :)
I was able to make toad leather and vamps at rank 32 for about 350 sp each and its still good sp at 34. I do use Master's Tannery most of the time, but I have been successful without it too. It's not too hard to make with Tanning/Cobbling training, but I still occasionally botch one.

Toad Vamps seem to be the way to go. Once you hit 34, you can actually start doing fleece but I would have the book. Hit upwards of 460 SP with fleece at 34. At 35 you can also start doing undyed boar leather (wont let you do dyed) and you can take that and turn it into straps and speteches. Thats as far as I am right now.

FWIW I'm making Buffalo Leather with ease at R22 using Master Facilities, Iron Round Knife, Iron Awl... no Tanning Training. I can post detailed stats/attributes if need be but I'm doing this at a 75-80% success rate at R22 in a R25 leve. Granting 550SP average per success in the leve.

I make buffalo leather at 21-22 as well, with occasional breaks. I'm pushing it because I need the straps and shoulder guards for weaving . . otherwise I really don't see the reason to push this synth as you can get more reliable sp off of things closer to your current level.

Awesome, been looking to find something I can grind from 31-35! Raptor sinew would be nice, but no way to get it unless you have high level groups to kill raptors. Cotton Singlet is a really easy and inexpensive recipe to grind on so rate up for you man! Looked on here and YG for the cotton pagine but it didn't pick it up, is that not the correct spelling?

Edit*: Found it, its Cotton Pagne. It does require a Dew Thread (R35 WVR), so that might not make it as ideal to level on. But still, the Singlet is the answer to my prayers lol.

Don't make toadskin vamps low 30s. Save your gigantoad skins for upper 40s.(You'll need ~500) They're going for 40k+ on my server atm, and there are very few options at 45+ to grind on. Do fleece from 34-45. You can buy sheepskin from an npc for 7200. My tanning progress has completely halted because I can't get enough gigantoad skins, since you can't buy them from npcs.

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't sure if I could tackle gigantoad yet anway. And again, its another high level mob drop so each one you can get makes it precious from leves (already have a decent stockpile :D). I was just in a rut on what I can do to progress the 31-33 ranks up until 34-35 when I could move to fleece. I'm a cheap ass though and i'll just farm the sh*t out sheepskins with another job (probably maurader next).

Before patch 1.15a I avoided levelling on gigantoads almost entirely. I took buffalo leather to camps right up to 34. Did fleece from 34-40 odd and then a combo of fleece, all the high end leathers and mainly boarskin shoulder guards which I will level to 50 on.

I don't know how feasible it is levelling to 34 on buffalo leather now.

Anyway I find hogs much easier to farm than toads and hog hide will take you to 50 whereas the toads wont, so I'd recommend concentrating on hogs rather than toads. Also, to get to 50 on hogs you're going to need at least 500-600 hog hide.

Having said that toad will be better money levelling on than fleece if you can get a small party of 40-50 in mor dhona to farm toads (and you can hunt hogs at same time)

It's the other way around. Boar shoulder guards drop to 200ish around 47. Brown toad vamps will stay near 300 up to 50.

As for low 30s, if you can't stand the buffalo grind to 34, you could try raptor sinew cords. You could also try making brown toad leather since you'll need them for 45+, but it's probably still a hard synth then, and skins are 40k, so do so at your own risk.

I imagine at some point, they'll finally put in some real boar recipes and hog hides will supplant toad for high 40s grind.

At rank 27, with master buff and a +1 Iron Round Knife, I am getting killer SP (roughly 500 per) making dyed buffalo leather. I'm probably getting close to an 80% success rate which isn't bad considering even on failed synths I'm still receiving close to 300 SP. Just thought I would post this since I didn't see a better option on here for my rank.

Originally, I wasn't planning on taking leather all the way to R50, but I'm considering it now. So, just to be clear on the path from 41-50, would someone from the esteemed leathercraft community kindly lay out the best path for me.

Unfortunately, I missed the boat somewhat by selling off some of my toadskins and not making brow toadleather when I could have got some decent SP for it.

Thanks.

Well then you'll just have to start making them now :p
Seriously if you do Leatherworking locals on a regular basis you'll accumulate skins with little effort.

Or if you've been out killing Raptors, you can Raptor Leather up their skins as it's an R48 synth, that eats ice cystals.

Peiste Skin Cesti Covers are nice little inexpensive R50 synth but requires a bit of preparation. Peiste Skins are ~10k compared to Gigantoad Skins ~30k on my server, cheap. Or you could try Tarred Voyager's Belt, both require ALC sub.

I find there's always 2-3 R50 local leves in Gridania for Leatherworker, that should be enough to get you to R50, slowly but surely.

EDIT: I don't think you're ALC is high enough, or I'd suggest that you start making Peiste Leather Spetches now in preperation for those Cesti Covers. Also, Fleece is R44 Leatherworker.

Thanks so much for taking the time to provide me some guidance.

I've been doing the fleece thing, and I never miss local leves. Unfortunately, in Gridania the only leve I'm ever offered for lth is the one for 4-5 synths @ Nine Ivies. Hopefully they fix that during leve balancing, and sounds like @ 45 a couple of decent leves open up for me.

Yes, my alc is only 27. Pretty much have only used it to break down crystals lol.

I'll just keep plugging away. Thanks again.
