Combining crafting skills Follow

I was wondering if anyone playing the beta has seen any hint of being able to (or needing to) combine your craft with another craft and how that may work.
I remember in FFXI there were somethings that if you wanted to make you needed to have 2 craft skills leveled. For instance Iron Bullet, Alchemy (45) Smithing (22).
Will things be different in FFXIV? Will one craft be all that's needed for things in your specific recipe book? Or at higher levels will there be a new twist on the crafting mini-game?

I want to make my blade green! Does this mean I need to level alchemy and blacksmith? Any ideas?

Yes, and yes. However, like other classes, the cross classed skill does not exp.
Example, a Table salt recipe requires culinarian lvl 5 plus. If you try the synth without leveling cooking, but you will get a warning that your sub skill is not high enough(and I failed doing it). Once I got my cooking high enough, no more warning, and success.
I haven't had a synth blocked by the sub-craft, but I have run into a few subcraft synths. E.g. Wands for CON are all woodworking/alchemy.
There was a synth, I don't remember what, that I succeeded without leveling the sub class, but I imagine I was probably lucky.

As for colored blades, if they do have them, it will most likely be using an alchemic ore or mineral that is dyed (e.g. Brown Enamel), however, I haven't seen a colored weapon yet.

Thanks a ton! That makes a huge amount of sense. Thanks for the examples too. Rated up!
