I wonder if ethers or potions such as X potions, mega potions, hi potions, or any other of the classic different potions we see throughout the final fantasy series are able to be made through alchemy. If no one knows the exact recipe yet does anyone at least know if they are being made by players?

The simple answer is that ppl don't know yet for certain. Likely that most really useful recipes will be higher than the 10-20 levels most people got in b3 anyway. Likely that the levequests are the mechanism for revealing new things so some new ones are bound to come to light in OB.

I've been cranking out this recipe out like crazy. It looks like in order for a carptner to make a Maple or Willow Wands, they need to have trained up their Alchemy skills too. I have both Carptner & Alchemy at Rank.7 and I can create the following with no trouble.

* Quicksilver (3xMinimum) yields 12 quicksilver. It saves a lot of gill making your own quicksilver.
* Growth Formula Alpha
* Maple Wand

According to one site, in order to make Willow Wands, they'll need Carptner rank-9 and Alchemy rank-5. Also Growth Formula Alpha is the repair material for the two wands.

Yeah, I tried putting fine sand in the crafting box, but the only recipes that pop up are crystal-->shard.
So either the recipe is incorrect or perhaps i'm too low to see it? ( but as far as I know even if you are only lv 1 the recipes will still show on the list)
This really sucks too, because I very much wanted to make some fire crystals from my shards ><

Just got the recipe for Eye drops through a guildleve.
1x Illuminating Salts
1x Rock Salt

Unfortunately, I don't know what drops Illuminating Salts, so I can determine crystals needed.
-Now that I have a better understanding of off hand, removing my comment until I synth it:)

I didn't write it down (the fish glue recipe), but quite literally the recipe was the guildleve that gave me the eye drop formula. So, I technically didn't get the fish, it was given to me to craft for the quest. I am assuming it's a grade 2 or higher catch (assuming fishing is like harvest/logging the only DOLs I have been doing). That is probably why the recipe is out there, and the fish are not.

If it's Indigo fish, then it's a fish that can only be caught in a school node. The other issue is so far I haven't read anyone who caught the fish that was willing to share the knowedge. The author of the fishing guide over at FFXIVcore has never caught one.

New Alchemy recipe I recived as a reward from a leve.

Beehive Chips
=================
First material: 1 basket of bees

Well not the most inspiring recipe, but I haven't seen it listed anywhere. The other odd thing is I get a tone of beehive chips when I chop at trees-with-no-logs(TM).

Cool, I forgot about that one. Stumbled into it when I as trying to clean up my inventory (I try to throw random things in to synth). Makes 12 Beehive chips if I remember correctly. And considering one basket makes an obnoxious number of beeswax or honey, and you can basically synth them three times (from basket, to chips, to wax or honey) you get some pretty good experience from the start with just one of them:).

On a side note, I got the recipe for Growth Formula Beta today, and also flagged the leve to synth it, but haven't started, so I still don't know the crystals:

Growth Formula Beta:
Quicksilverx1
Rocksaltx1
Red Landtrap Leafx1
Crystals: ???
Recommended Level: 15

You can purchase it from Alchemy Guild in Ul'Dah - think its about 179 gil each if I remember correctly. I used this turning crystals into shards for some decent exp.

I would recommend treading lightly when synthing crystals into shards, as the higher level synths appear to use crystals rather than shards, and we haven't even seen clusters yet... (or at least none that I have heard of, though they are supposed to exist...)

I havent seen them in Open Beta but I had a few drop from mobs in Beta 3, so I can confirm they do exist. Unfortunately during that Beta I was testing my THM and writing the guide so I didnt do any crafts. I see what you are saying about saving your crystals especially as when I was trying out the recipe at rank nine I think I only managed 2/8 sucessful synths with common labratory on.

If this site is correct you can use Sea Cucumber which can be caught at the fishing leve locations for Bearded Rock.

http://www.beyondvanadiel.com/ffxiv/db/recipes/_/alchemist/?search_value=&sort_col=field_16&sort_order=asc&per_page=50&st=0

Sigh, i cant figure out how to use the url thing :|

Anyways, Where do you get Muddy Water from? >_>

I worked with the highest ALC on my server with this one, he gave me the recipe to try out.
We estimated about rank 30. I tried at 26 and had a semi-tough time. I'm 29 now so I can try it again, hopefully with better success.

The recipe takes 1 water crystal, and is actually also the recipe for "<Element> Ether" using different crystals. I do not know the purpose or effect of any of these other ethers, but they might be pretty interesting to look at.

you shoulda looked at each recipe, your info is off

ok so here is the new additons

they are all at least level 40(i can do them at 35, but i fail easily)

the mats listed above are correct, following are the crystal requirements

Ether = 1 Water Crystal
Water Ether = 12 water shards
Fire = 4 fire shards, 8 water shards
Ice = 4 ice shards 8 water shards
Lightning = 4 lightning shards 8 water shards
Earth = 4 earth shards 8 water shards
Wind = 4 wind shards 8 water shards

I just found this recipe totally by accident, and didn't see it posted on this site. I had the wrong crafting item equipped when I tried to make sand, so it really was by accident!

Water Crystal: Sea Cucumber x1, Lightning Shard x5.

HQ1 resulted in 2 water crystals using the main hand item.
