Sorry for the newb question but have just started playing as conjurer and is it right that i can only get new mp every 10 mins? is there no way to regain MP without using Tranquility (ie: resting?)

Use the WS Radiance or click on an Aetheryte or Aetheryte Node.
Later you can get access to Stygian Spikes or Siphon MP if you level Thm. At level 18 Con you get Spiritbind, which temporarily binds you but also cuts MP consumption in half.
MP Management is far more critical in FFXIV than it was in FFXI, but by the time you hit 15 or so you should have a good idea of how to progress without running out of MP.

Ye has become more apparent since my original post when i was just setting out at rank1. My main query was that i equipped tranquility after all the other spells so initially had a down period of 10 mins. Tbh after that 10 mins just running around soloing stuff i had enough mp to last 10mins and more.
