forgive me is this is posted elsewhere, but I want to switch classes from pug to con. I will be reallocating my points tonight and making some gear too.

My question is what is the difference between Staves and Wands. I assume its potency vs accuracy, can anyone confirm this or give me some other insight into it?

thanks

Con its Cane vs wand.. Tha is scepter vs staff...

First question is do you have a good shield with magical stats that you want to use? If no I go cane. Cane vs wand isn't a big issue really all about what your shield offers in my book then it becomes cane vs wand and shield. All about the shield more defense and added magic stats...

i think the general consensus is to go wand and shield due to the abilities you can gain with shield, extra defense, and added magic potency from the shield. if you dont solo too much then go for the cane i suppose.

from my testing the cane is better in every situation. It has higher accuracy and damage, so even if you take a little bit more damage, your cures are more potent to recover

I have a L 11 cane and a L 12 wand with a shield.

i noticed that the cane was better in every situation, including nuking, DOTing and healing.

Im not sure if this can be supported with actual numbers or not, but the numbers were higher with the cane.

edit: the numbers dont take into account actually guarding with your shield, which gets better as it levels up.

don't be so quick to toss that shield to the curb!

No actually, Conjurer is Radical vs. Wand.

Looks in my main hand sees ash cane looks in my inventory sees elm cane looks around for this radical you speak of :P..

Also wands and canes have different elemental damages so a mob maybe weak to canes and strong to wands or viceversa food for thought.

I used Wand + Shield during closed Beta.

Since retail, I have been using Cane exclusively, and since making the switch the thing that has really stood out to me is that you have a far greater chance of parrying a mob's attack with a Cane than a Wand.

I have also noticed that you can receive Conjury Skill Points for parrying an attack, so until I come across a shield with amazing stats, I will be sticking with Cane.

Can someone confirm you need shield levels to get all the stats? IE you have to level your shield rank to 14/15 to get full stats for an ash shield.

If the above is true, Staves will give better stats since I know I never leveled my shield skill as a conj. I'm currently using a pine crook until I get better stats off my plumed pine crook. I am currently trying to get growth formula gammas if anyone has seen those drop or blue landtrap leaves so I can make the maple and willow elemental wands.

You only get the defense from the shield if you're actively guarding. The hidden +magic potency only applies to your sub hand (/eaction sub "Cure", worthless if you're a conjurer). The only thing a shield gives you over just not having one is the +magic accuracy that some shields have, which is in no way better than having a 2 handed weapon if you can. Since you die in one-two hits regardless if you have a shield or not, you should avoid 1H weapons and just stick with canes if possible. Obviously, if you have an Elm Cane, getting the R22 1H weapon would be an upgrade. However, R18 pine crook > R22 1H.

for solo grinding you'll want to do less damage per hit (more hits = more EXP), plus level your shield, so you might as well go wand/shield.

For partying, go Cane as your cures will be mildly better.
