i agree. I leveled sentinal to rank 4 when i hit Thau 10

Uh, you can level your shield skills as a THM, CON, or GLD. Personally I leveled mine to 7 on my GLD and then 7-10 on my THM.
This is definately worth more trials. I was thinking of taking GLD purely to get shield skill up. I know some THM's swear by the shield, I personally however have very little experience with it but hoping to try soon.

THM 17, Sentinel 11, and I have to say, it's great. You get Aegis Boon at 10, which heals you based on damaged blocked. It lasts the length of one Guard, and has a low cooldown. I level CON, THM, and GLD, and my shield skill is staying up pretty well.

The main reason would be that you really have to keep your Sentinel skill up otherwise all your blocks are just fails. So it's essentially another job you have to level up, in a similar manner that most THMs would probably want to level up CON for some of their skills. And Sentinel is a REAL pain to level up.
I find it worthwhile however, and loving using a shield on my oh-so squishy THM.
