FFXIV Conjurer Guide

Hello, I am Devan Glasio from the Figaro server and I have decided to write a rather elaborate guide about my favorite class in FFXIV, the Conjurer.

The conjurer is one of the two (current) Disciples of Magic that have been released. The conjurer has access to the elements through nuking attacks as well as buff spells that were seen in many other FF games including protect, shell, and stoneskin. You should think of the Conjurer as a mixture of the WHM and BLM if you are a FFXI player.

Races:

There will always be those min/maxers out there that will start the game with this idea in their head that one race will be better than all of the others. This was very prevalent in FFXI, but the best WHM I ever came across was a galka.

In FFXIV, races are purely aesthetic. If you want to be a Roegadyn healing based Conjurer, all of the power to you.
While I may say that all of the races are exactly the same, you may come back to me and say – but when I start my character, all of the stats are different! Yes this is true. When you start your character, they all have different stats, but FFXIV gives you the freedom to put your stats anywhere and build your character how you see fit.
So for races, pick your favorite. I will always play Taru/Lalafel =)

Stats

From what we know right now, and it could be very wrong, this is how stats look:

Str – Physical Damage
Vit – Physical Defense
Dex – Physical Accuracy
Int – Magical Damage
Mnd – MP + Heal potency
Pie – Magic Accuracy

For the Conjurer class, we will be focusing on Int, Mnd, Pie, and Vit.
The way that I personally went, and after partying with other Thau + Conj, is the best way to start off is to pump straight vit until you get 40, and then go Int:Mnd:Pie 1:1:1 from then on. When I level, I make sure that when I put any points into Mnd, I keep it at even numbers because every 2 into Mnd gives you 1 point of heal potency.
This holds true even for a party stat build because a lot of mobs have AOE abilities and some like to charge you if you get a crit on them, so having a nice little pool of HP is going to help a lot in soloing and parties.

Elements

Think Captain Planet here (he’s my hero)
Earth Fire Wind Water Heart…erm Ice Lightning. There is a nice elemental chart on the website. I’ll provide a link when I find it.

For Element Stat Build I am focusing on Lightning and Ice because…I like them. But you pick your favorite two elements and build that way. I haven’t noticed any different in elements of monsters, but I’m sure later on there will be a place for different elemental mages. Remember, you can always change it so experiment yourself.

Abilities / Spells – I am only going to cover 1-10 here because the ability list is long. http://ffxiv.zam.com/en/abilitylist.html?class=23 Please visit the database here for the full list.

Spirit Dart 1
Your bread and butter for EXP grinding. You will be spamming this bad boy for hours and hours and hours and hours. It is just a basic attack for your conjurer. Please see the macro section for a time saver macro.

Elemental Bursts 1
Your Bread and Butter Burst Spells. These use up your mana quickly, so only use them if you are facing a stronger than average foe or just want to have fun. These play a bigger part when you are in parties.

Tranquility 1
Gives you half of your mp back every 10 minutes. Usually with just using shock spikes and cure, I can go 20 minutes before half of my mana pool is empty. Remember that every couple of minutes you can visit the Aetheryte for your mana.

Trance Chant 2
I’ve personally never been interrupted so may play a bigger role later.

Cure 4
Ah cure. You’re going to start off a little under 200 hp healed per cure, but as your weapon improves and you increase your Mnd, I think the cap for Cure I is 270. Use this whenever you need to for non-stop killing. You can set it to aoe for a quick cure on your party without needing to change targets as well.

Stoneskin 6
This is a great spell for when you are in zones that are under 10. So from rank 6-10, you will be using this every 2 fights and receive almost no damage. After rank 10 when you start fighting the next tier, you will find yourself almost never using this.

Repose 8
Stops target from moving. Fun for when your levequest target runs and you can stop him without chasing forever.

Shock Spikes 8
One of the most amazing spells and if you plan on leveling any other Disciplines, you will always want this on your ability bar. The damage is decent, but without any skill ups, but the stun is a god send. Pretty much whenever you are hit, the monster is stunned for a few seconds. Great for throwing a clutch heal or just dishing out some unrequited damage.

Profundity 10
Profundity is a fun little toy. It will add a few more nice numbers to your basic elemental nukes. I tested it on stoneskin and cure and did not see any effect, so just use this with your nukes.

Radiance 10
Ah finally, a way to use that 3000 TP that you have been staring at for the past 10 levels. Restores some mp and does some nice damage. Also gives conj Exp. Use it whenever you can.

Leveling

Ul’Dah-

Since I leveled in Ul’Dah this is all I know.
From ranks 1-8, I did levequests at the first camp and Grinded on the various marmots in the area. When you get to rank 5-8, there are various caves around the zone that house 3 mobs inside each cave. The usual spawn are moles, but there are the occasional spriggan collector, bug, or bogy. This is great grinding from 5-8(10).

At 8, I moved on to the second camp to do levequests there as well as grind on the various animals around this camp. From 8-10, it would be better to stay away from the dodo’s as they will kill the unexperienced very quickly, but around 10, anyone can kill dodo’s with a few heals. At 12+ Dodo’s become your primary subject for mass termination. You can stay on Dodo’s and cave moles until 18, then move on to the next camp.
18+ I will write when I get there, or if someone can help me.

Limsa Lominsa

At 12-13 there is a great party spot near Camp Bloodshore here killing the goats in the area. Make sure you have a typical party here with tank, healer, DD at the very least. My party had tank + two conj so we both healed to keep the glad up. Great exp though

Gridania

Partying

There will be two roles that you will face in a party. Healer or DPS. A good conj is going to find a balance between those two roles. Your job is to open up fights with your buffs (Shock Spikes, Protect, Shell) and then until targeting is fixed, when the tank needs a heal, I just AOE heal myself so I don’t switch targets. Then when you aren’t needed to heal, go ahead and cast dart or a nuke. Be careful to watch your aggro. I will expand on this area as I get more experienced in parties.

Macros

The basic macro that will help you in your adventures as a Conjurer is this:
/ac “Spirit Dart” <t>
/wait 2.5
/ac “Spirit Dart” <t>
/wait 2.5
/ac “Spirit Dart” <t>
/wait 2.5
/ac “Spirit Dart” <t>
/wait 2.5
/ac “Radiance” <t>

This macro set will cast Spirit Dart 4x which will give you enough TP for radiance. If you just keep pressing this macro, with a cure in between, you will be able to take anything out. By using this macro, you will not experience and delay in between your casts like you usually do when you spam 1, so not only will you cast faster without any lag, you will only push one button, so you can watch the Seahawks or talk to your LS.

Other useful macros are:

/p {Gather Together} {“Various Buff”}
/wait 2
/aoe on
/ac “Shock Spikes (or anything here)” <me>
/aoe off
Also a cure macro

/aoe
/ac “Cure” <t> or <me>

You get the drill.

Other Disciplines to Level

Currently, the only other one to level is Thaumaturge. Having a 2nd heal and another set of spikes can help you level. Personally, I find that straight conj is all I need. This may change.

Guild Points / Spells

I'll do this when I get home.

Tips
Use the spirit dart macro and heal in between macro sets.

Everyone will tell you to use the lowest DPS weapon you can find for faster skill ups. From my own experience, Do NOT do this. My exp gain was HIGHER when I equipped new weapons. Plus you will gain faster phys exp.

A general tip, not a conj. Specific tip. Walk around and collect the first two aetherytes at each city as well as the Aetheryte inside of the city. It will DESTROY your anima, but if a LS mate says that a willow wand is for sale in LL for only 26k (happened to me this morning), it is very nice to just teleport over there and pick up that bargain. Also if you only are able to get 3 levequests at a certain camp, I like to jump over to another city and pick some up. But if your anima is getting low, it is not advisable to do this.

Well this is my first guide, and only the first draft of this guide. As I play more and become stronger as a conjurer I will be adding more. If you feel like you have any information to add or if you see anything that is incorrect, please either send a message to me or reply to this post. Generally, I will ignore any troll posts. Thanks for reading guys.

Thanks to:
Djocapn – for the equipment list
Order of the White Rose – For being an awesome LS and for asking me to write this.

What I'm doing w/ my build is going thaumaturge until 10 for the obvious reasons, and then grabbing 6 levels of Pugilist for http://ffxiv.zam.com/en/ability.html?ffxivability=26012.

o.O maple wands 26k what server are you on.... i sell em 6-8k on Istory. The growth formula alpha can be bought for under 2k in the alchemist guild in Uldah and the maple branch is only 1440 from any of the 3 city market areas. Do 3 leves and get your carpentry to 6 and you can synth em yourself with support.

For the macro section, you should probably specify whether or not AOE is on|off. Otherwise you may see undesired effects. So...

/aoe on
/aoe off

There are multiple areas in which i'm personally having a hard time in the macro department. Last night for a few hours I tried to get a working macro to either target my Gladiator friend and heal or to simply just target him so that I do not rely on AOE cures on myself.

So if anyone has figured this out, it would be a huge inclusion to this guide and help out, i'm sure, pretty much all other conjurers / thau's out there

christ when I get to willow wands I will not be selling them for 26K - the ingredients are no more expensive than maple wands. The most I'd sell one for is 10K and that would just be to afford to buy more shards after griding the level. People are ripping off atm. I never do. I believe I'll get a better reputation by selling things at fair prices.

A budding maple wand? Yeah I would sell that pretty high. I still need 1 mat to even attempt to make growth formula beta.

yeah well this was day 2 when no other carp was above 10 and I was already sitting at 200k gil. So 26k really was a good deal when it was the only guy in the server currently selling it. But this is really digressing from the point of the post =P

Good info! I'm not sure if you are still updating the equipment list, but hempen kecks (leg, rank 9, all class, str +1, int +1) is missing in your list. Anyway, keep up the good work!

Some of the items in the gear list, like the dodskin mitts and dodoskin leggings are not even for the CON class (they are favored by THM). What happens if we use gear that isnt favored for our class?

I'm also having trouble with the macros.

I have them identical to the suggested ones, but can't get them to work.

I keep getting a message: "Actions not set to action bars can not be used." The problem is, they are set to the action bars. I even went to what I consider to be an absurd possibility, and matched the number of the macro to the number on the action bar (Eg stone skin is # 5, used macro # 5), same thing. Any suggestions?

Figured out the macro problem.

Be sure to capitalize the name of the spell.

Eg: /ac "Stoneskin" <me> <--- YES

/ac "stoneskin" <me> <---NO

So that explains the problem I was having, hope this helps.

for targeting your friend (don't know how to add that person's post but he wanted to know how to target his gladiator friend) if your friend is in your party you use the following to target them
<p0> set's target to yourself ( <me> works as well)
<p1> target's the first party member
<p2> target's the second party member
etc. etc. until you get to
<p14> target's the 14th party member

I hope this helps

For those with the macro problem:

You must not copy/past the /ac “Spirit Dart” <t>
Because as you can see the 2 " at the start and end of the word arn't the same, maybe hard to tell but there not.
Type it by hand with alt+2 (for me, dunno for you guys)for the same " ".

Worked for me after changed and typed it by hand.

First I would like to thank you for posting this thread it has helped me alot.

However I have come up with a very effective macro combo to suggest:

Attack
/ac "Guard" sub <me> <---- if you are using a 2 handed weapon please omit this line
/ac "Spirit Dart" <t>
/ac "Spirit Dart" <t>
/ac "Spirit Dart" <t>
/ac "Spirit Dart" <t>
/ac "Radiance" <t>
/ac "Spirit Dart" <t>
/ac "Spirit Dart" <t>
/ac "Spirit Dart" <t>
/ac "Damnation" <t>
(This does however assume that you have leveled Thaumaturgy to level 10)
(Also note that should you miss a Spirit Dart or two before Radiance you have Damnation to fall back on)
(You do not have to put any /wait commands in this macro)

Follow this with a Heal macro as needed:

Heal
/ac "Cure" <me>
/wait 5
/ac "Sacrifice" <me>

This should help with taking on those tougher mobs, saving MP, and gaining more SP
