Goldsmithing .. 1-60 Post Abyssea ~~ by Elizara
Ouch... Anyway, as everyone knows, crafting has changed drastically since abyssea came out. Some mats are now easier to get, and some are harder to get. Which can throw a serious monkey wrench in goldsmithing, since not a lot of people are mining now. And since no one has thought to update the current guides..I realized I'd have to write one.
As this is a guide to 60 (since I'm doing this for a woodworking sub for a mule), I won't be looking much beyond that.
I think a lot of people are attracted to this simply 'cuz well. They go to the jewelery store and see the guy working behind the counter with gold and silver. (My dad was a jeweler btw in RL!). It may seem glamorous but even in RL, it's actually expensive to do. (Also I can tell you, it's kinda not as glamorous as it sounds in rl either.) So make sure you have a regular source of income in game before you try it, especially if you don't mine. (Me, it's doing dyn with a friend, aby drops, and cooking (I'm a 100 cook on my main. And..I used to mine when it was profitable but it's really not anymore. At least on Quetz.) I'm not going to lie to anyone; you're prolly going to end up burning lots of gil to get to 60. No lie; you might make some small profits early on, but they'll get eaten up 20, 30 fold later. It may sound like I'm being sour here but it's the truth.
This can save your **** many a time. I didn't think of this before Skif left Sandy, but I'd wholeheartedly suggest you set your mh up for desynthing. If it wasn't for this, I would of never got past some parts; however since his mh wasn't set up for desynthing, I proly broke more than I should of. Save yourself the trouble/pain and set up the mh that way.
Crystal Farming/Farming in General;
Now a days crystals are expensive. If you got the time, you might want to make a trip to sky and slap eles around. Oh yes tho, there are times when time is more valuable than gil (I've had those times with my 3 year old niece around when I keep getting aggro); that's when you buy crystals/mats. So make sure you take that into consideration always when farming anything, including crystals.

Also thanks to Aarahs of Quetz/Midgard; he told me the most economical way to go from 57 to 60.
Enough beating around the bush. Time to get into the meat of this...Just a warning, never follow any guide blind. Quetz's economy is prolly not the same as your server's economy; also server economies are always changing. So check wiki's recipe list and tailor to what works for you.
1-3 Copper Ingot (4 copper ore, fire crystal) Get the ore at the smithing guild or the goldsmithing guild, whatever's cheaper. Save the ingots for the next synth.
3-7 Copper Hairpin(1 copper ingot, wind crystal) Might sell well on the AH, might not. Depends on how many newbies there are.
7-9 Brass Ingot(3 copper ore, 1 zinc) Try to catch the zinc on ah at a lower price point, 2k or less. Unfortunately this may get pricy because zinc gets pricy for a low level item. Save the ingots for the next synth.
9-11 Brass Sheet (1 brass ingot, fire crystal); Save for the next synth!
11-13 Brass Scales (1 brass sheet, wind crystal) Doesn't sell on AH, just npc dump this.
13-16 Brass Hairpin (Brass Ingot, fire crystal) Might sell a few of those to newbies, but you are more likely to end up npc dumping these.
16-18 Silver ingots (4 silver beastcoins, fire crystal) – Save for a future synth, tho if you sell a few, they're profitable.
18-20 Silver Ingots(4 silver ore, fire crystal) Again, save'em.
20-22 Silver Sheet (1 silver ingot, fire crystal) Serious npc dump here.
22-27 Silver Hairpin (1 silver ingot, wind crystal) Can desynth these to save mats, but always check the ah before you do that to see how well these sell. You might make some money back.
27-31 Hirashin (1 copper ingot, 1 silver ingot) Keep your costs to the minimum here. If you can, you'll break even or profit, tho this ninja tool takes forever to sell unless you toolbag and shout-sell in Port Jueno.
31-33 Silver Chain (2 Silver ingots, earth crystal); I npced these, but make sure you check the ah to see how well this sells.
33-38 Myrthil Ingot(4 myrthil beastcoins, fire crystal) I had trouble getting the beastcoins so I skipped to ore early, you can do that with adv support if you must.
38-40 Myrthil Ingot (4 myrthil ore, fire crystal) Wait for your hometown to get in first, then buy the ore off the airship dock. If it isn't a crafting mule (I kept having to run back on my main) just sit there and synth away. That and farming are the only ways you're not going to lose your butt; save the ingots though.
40-47 Gold Dust (Copper ingot, brass ingot, wind crystal) First reprieve in gilburning. Try to keep costs to a minimum; if you do you'll lose a lot less npcing these. Also if you can't get zinc at a decent price, Raghad in Bastok Markets sells brass rings you can desynth when bastok is in second or better; you can get 1-2 brass ingots from that. Just make sure you got your mh set up for that!
47-51 Cutting Geodes (Any element of geode, wind crystal) – Ahh, another reprieve! Geodes are cheap as bleep and you may get a pile you don't need doing trials. NPC the results unless you know a goldsmither that needs the jewels.
51-54 Candle Holder (1 beeswax, 3 brass ingots, 1 gold ingot, fire crystal) Bleh. I could never sell these.(Strange, it does look cool when you set it in your mh..) It does have a low alch requirement, so don't worry about that. (Wiki doesn't say since no one has confirmed it but I suspect no higher than beeswax.) Give away to friends/npc, whatever! It is a decent alternative if you cannot get any gold ore (but can get gold beastcoins/gold leaves and make them into gold nuggets and get a bit of gold ore) whatsoever tho, even tho it's a huge loss. Again, remember Raghad! Also for pete's sake, farm the chips and make your own beeswax if you can.
54-57 Gold hairpin (1 gold ingot, wind crystal) Desynth them, desynth them, desynth them; you'll save some money but you'll still lose your **** here.
57-60 Myrthil Cuisses (Myrthil Sheet X2, Ram Leather, Fire Crystal) NPC dump for the most part. However it's more economical than the alternatives.
And there you have it. I hope your adventures in goldsmithing are less expensive than mine were. ~_~;
